Heres an intresting thought, think of all the ideas floating between tron and the matrix, such as the fake world being the world of tron or something . . . i dunno where im going with this, but just think about the idea

Be nice to him, people - at least he didn't post a poll.

Yes, I've noticed the similarities between them as well. They're both virtual worlds that people enter by 'digitizing' themselves, except with The Matrix, it's a fabricated world that you can jack into and Tron is an actual network that you...what I guess 'pixelize' yourself to enter? I haven't played Tron 2.0 so I don't quite know the specifics.
Also there's a similarity in the plots. The main red guy (forgot his name) is a lot like an Agent. Could someone elaborate on a possible similarity with the Architect and Tron?

Bleah. :yech:
The Tron theme is to the Matrix theme as Space Invaders 2000 is to Homeworld 2.

how bout the idea that when smith dies in the first movie, he is in the tron world, however the ICP's dont catch him and he gets rezed back in matrixland
(yeah i know, im being dumb, but im bored and we need more intresting ideas floating around)

I was thinking more Tron vs. Neo:
Tron throws his disc
Neo stops it in midair
Tron's like "oh s**t, I have no other weapons!"
Neo pulls out a machine gun and shoot him

Hmm.. so Jeff Bridges, as a User, is somewhat similar to "the one." He can bring back the dead, he can.. uh.. what else could he do? Bend the mainframe to his will?

Both movies seem similar because they both come from a philosophy 101 question: The whole "How do I know the world around me is real"-type stuff. And they both came up with answers, unsprisingly, similar in nature.

I disagree. That wasn't the question at all in the first one; it's just that you were dealing with two separate but equally real worlds.

In the Matrix they use guns.. lots of guns. In Tron they throw glowing frisbees at each other. Now don't get me wrong, i lurved the original Tron but i just can't bring myself to do the comparison.

Actually, they're essentially the same movie for a different generation.
TRON was the '80s generation expression of a geek attaining power via the then-presumed potentials of technology.
Matrix is the same thing, just different presentation. Warchowskis admitted TRON as an influence, anway.

Squid: The first half of the Matrix was almost entirely about "letting go" of the fake world around them. Neo had to accept the fact that everything as he knew it was false- he had to face that same question.

I love Tron, but it has more in common with the Matrix sequels (especially Revolutions with the MCP-esque head) than the original Matrix.
What's with all the dumb Matrix ownz joo fanboi replies?

It's flavour of the month.
BTW, I wasn't impressed with the Tron demo for some reason. Will try it again tonight. Demos should come with friggin' tutorials.

the matrix is a virtual world, where noone knows its unreal.
tron featured a virtual world, which was never intended to deceive anyone, but due to the fact that it is actually populated by virtual lifeforms can't really be discounted to be unreal. its like a world within another world.
Sentinels and hovercraft vs. Tanks and recognizers!
Bit > Oracle
Giant evil battleship > ummm, everything?

I loved those tanks, and the big red floaty things that alan drove in the origional (recognizer?)
as far as that demo, it doesnt do the game justice, id rather be in trontopia than realworldland

The light cycles in tron were quite simply far cooler than anything in the matrix.

Straight lines and glowy trails? Like centipede meets russian roulette.
Judging by the experience presented in the game, I cannot understand.

I wasn't talking about the Game Vaarok. The game will never measure upto the film. At the time your average joe probably thought computers ran on magic.
After watching tron, so did I.
If you can show me one single person in the world who after watching Tron didn't want a lightcycle, I'll eat my hat.
And coat.
