I've just received my Siege of Vraks - Part two from Forge World, so I thought I'd share my impressions of the book.
So, what do you get for your money? A hard back book of 208 pages of high quality glossy paper filled with stunning colour plates and line drawings, loads of background material including Imperium politics, space battles, epic last stands, Titan battles, Mole Mortars and a new army list for Renegades and Heretics.
The book is divided into five sections -
1/. The Siege of Vraks
2/. Forces of the Imperium
3/. Forces of Chaos
4/. Scenarios - "Histirical" refight scenarios
5/. Appendices
There is something in this book for everyone intersted in the 40K universe. Space battles for Battlefleet Gothic, Titan battles for Epic, underground battles for Necromunda and Kill Team, politics for Dark Heresy, mass battles for Apocalypse. There is enough background here to play Kill Team games and Combat Patrol as well as "ordinary" 40K games. There are plenty of modelling and painting ideas for wargamers and non-wargamers alike. Masses of suberbly produced photos for terrain modellers as well. There are force organisation charts for Tank Companies and Artillery Companies for fanatic collecters like me! There is also a Battle group Organisation for the Legio Astorum - 22 Titans!!!
As with all Forge World books, the colour plates are superb. My favourite is the two page, full colour plate of the Reaver Titan of High Princeps Rand Drauca.
The Renegades and Heretics army list is different enough from SofV1 to be worthwhile, more Chaos influence but no Daemons yet. Still Imperial Guard based but completely different - I'll be building this army next!
So, is it worth the money? You bet! If you only buy one book this year, buy this one. You will not be disappointed.
