Unit voices

Which ones stand out to you the most? I personally think the Chaos Space Marines have a really good voice-over, the Dreadnought has a cool one, and the Raider too.

I was disappointed by the Hell Talon and Wych voices, they didn't seem any good for some reason.

I've always liked the Librarians, i was pretty happy they never changed his voice from DoW

Kaskrins sound very Vetran-ee, i like that "Just like on Caspian V" or whatever they say

I always thought the Tau felt a little whimpy in their voices, but that's their thing, for the greater good and all

I love it when i play as orks (obviously) because you feel like the boss, just the way they talk to you, with the "Up yours" and the "Why iz you given ME orders?". Yet, they do it anyways, because i can hit the delete button. Awww yeeeah

Farseers always sound cryptic, but i get so tired of hearing the Psykers "The glory of the emperor...through meeee!!!" when i fight computers. I want to gouge my eyes out

As I have said before in a separate thread, I like the voice of the Librarian. To add to it, the Chaos Sorcerer in Vanilla/WA sounds awesome too.

I love these.

Well, my favourite voice over (currently) is probably the Baneblade's 'I'd DIE for the Emperor!' or 'Doubt is for the dying.'

At least for vehicles.

Flyer-wise it's Da Fighta Bomma hands down every time.

As for Infantry, it has has HAS to be my precious Ogryns. They're so brilliant, they're like giant mutant babies with guns and a violent disposition, offset by an irrational, childlike fear of dark, confined spaces.

'Ooh! Ooh! We got the.. thing!' and 'Don't like it in dere..' which always win an 'AWWWWWWWW' from me when I play.

The voice-overs remain one of the most outstanding things about this game, whether they be brilliant, funny as hell, or just plain rubbish. (SoB Missionaryyyyy, I'm looking at yooouuuu!)

it would take far too long to list the voices i like, so i'll tell you which voice i find grating: it's when seraphims go 'WE ARE SERAPHIMS!!' which by itself isn't that bad, though it is somewhat puzzling why they feel this is worth repeating -and there is where the quote falls flat with me, because this purposeless phrase gets repeated again and again and again and again. "WE ARE SERAPHIMS, WE ARE SERAPHIMS, WE ARE SERAPHIMS, DIIIIEEE!!, WE ARE SERAPHIMS--" yeah, ok, i get it. wait, what are you again? "WE ARE SERAPHIMS!!" oh right, repetitious with your chanting.

one unit that never seems to get recognition in these threads are the cultists, whom i love. they are so gleefully energetic and pathetically eager that it's hillarious. their totally unique characterization in dow is nothing short of absolute brilliance; i couldn't come up with something like that if i had one hundred years :p


the only unit voice i actually find irritating belongs to the dark eldar slave. first of all, it doesn't match his (?) appearance*. secondly, it really is just so pathetic that when i hear it, i get the impulse to shoot the poor bastard in the head. there's downtrodden, and then there's... ugh... this guy. "ye.... hesss?" >BLAMO<

*to ile's credit, he could be 'speaking' through the warp and what we're hearing could be the tortured slave's 'inner voice' or his 'mind's voice.'

I like the Tau voices in general.

Very business-like, quiet, calm. Kind of like I would expect an experienced sniper to talk. Fits their whole "ordered ranks, great strategy"-blahblah. ;)

I just hate their attack-grunts. Sounds like they're being hit even if they are the ones dishing out the punishment from 50 million miles away.

totally concur about the grunting; i actually considered submitting that to bug submissions, as it sounds like firewarriors are dying en masse when they're actually attacking unscathed.

one other minor point of annoyance is that some chaos quotes are repeated between units.

The Psyker isn't too bad.. but if you have him selected while attached to a GM squad that is on constant reinforce, he repeats his phrase every time a new GM appears... :bricks:

Most of his phrases arn't bad.. just that glory one repeats quite a bit =(

Back on topic...don't really have a favourite. However, there's always something I've always wanted to know about.

What on earth does the Ork Tankbusta squad say for one of their standing by quotes? It sounds like "Dahahaha, doe ord are de dead if you mean". I still don't understand what he's trying to say.

He says "Hahaha! Don' 'old on ta da' en' ovit", or thereabouts. "Don't hold on to that end of it". This made more sense when tankbustas could throw bombs, and their standard stance was melee, where'd they would use their stick grenades as clubs (at least, they LOOK like grenades to me. Could be just an oddly-shaped mace).

I like all the voices from the Eldars, but my opinion is biased since they are also my favorite faction even excluding the games and considering the fluff exclusively (that is quite recent though, it's been a change in mindset after reading more about them and understanding them better). I particularly like the following units' sayings:

Farseer

- "The future seems so... clear."
- "Their extermination shall be for their own good."
- "They are no concern to us."
- "We fight, because we must."
- "Their defeat is not a matter of when, but how!"
- "Orks approach. They are a cancer. We are the cure."

Avatar of Khaine

- "By my bloody hand the enemy shall not live past this day."

Fire Prism

- "Their existence is just a momentary distraction."

Warp Spider

- Anything they say really, the distorted voices was a superb idea, it fits them perfectly well.

And many others. Although I actually prefer the sounding of their voices more than what they actually say, even if they do have a number of memorable quotes. I just like them a lot. But overall I cannot feasibly dislike any faction's voices in this saga, we've been given high quality voice acting throughout all of the titles so far and I applaud Relic for that (and Iron Lore too, I do like the Dark Eldars voices, and even some from the Sisters of Battle).

Tankbustas had stikkbombs as melee weapons in vanilla. In the fluff (or TT), there are Orks specialized in throwin these stikkbombs. They are the only ones who actually know that you have to throw away the grenade, not the pin. :)

I guess giving this line to the TBs might be a slight reference to these stikkbomb specialist Orks (Lobbas?).

Peronally I always found the way Raptors speak to be plain awesome.
