Hi,

As discussed in this thread (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=206415), several people appear to be having problems with patch installation. It has been suggested that this may be due to having Bit Torrent clients or disk emulation software installed.

Can anyone confirm that installed Torrent clients and/or disk emuation software will prevent a legitimate, store bought copy of SoulStorm from running after the patch is installed? I would really like to know the answer to this before I install the patch because I don't want to waste hours having to uninstall/re-install DoW and the many mods that I use if I can avoid it.

For the record, I own DoW, WA and SS (actually 2 copies of DoW because I lost my original CD key). I bought each game brand new, from a large game retailing chain. I use Torrents for legitimate purposes. I use disk emulation software (Alochol) to allow me to run game that I own without having to continually change discs. I'll be extremely dissapointed if legitimate computer use prevents me from using my legally acquired software!

Disk emulation software has been known to set off securom in the past (going all the way back to vanilla DoW). However, in the thread you link to we have been unable to identify what is causing that error message.

In your case, since you are able to play all the DoW games already I would hope that you should be able to continue doing so post-patch.

As to bittorrent clients - that was me grasping at straws, I understand that they have plenty of legitimate uses and would share your disgust if you were prevented from playing if you had one installed. Fortunately, eldar_warrior in that thread has removed his client and is still getting the error...so it looks like the client had nothing to do with it. (Well, fortunately for common sense - not so fortunate for him as he is still unable to play)

Well, I'll happily eat humble pie with this one! :D

Turns out the game patched without a hitch. I guess this thread can either be locked/deleted or left as a potential source of comfort for others in my position that are wary about patching.

Just for the record, I have a legit copy of the game (have bought every DoW game so far) have uninstalled all emulation type software and the game STILL gives me this message post-patch, so I'm at a loss.

ForTheEmperor: please go to this thread (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=206415).

So far one person has solved the issue by swopping out their DVD drive, other than that everyone is waiting for Securom to come up with something. The best thing you can do is contact Securom support - the more people who contact them the bigger they will perceive the problem to be and the faster it will get fixed.
