title sums up my problem in a nutshell. Bizarre thing is I had the exact same problem with Dark Crusade, was hoping upgrading to SS would sort it. It doesnt ruin the game for me, If I create a game, people can join, we play the game and everything is just fine. But I cant join other peoples games, i just get 'trying to connect to game' and that pretty much stays there till I get frustrated and cancel it. I'm on windows XP service pack 3, soulstorm patched to latest. used race unlocker and genuine CD keys. I dont see how much use this information is, but who knows.

P.S
Now I know back in the day when my vaio was working I could join games without trouble. But since Ive put it on my PC i can only create games. Oh and if its relevant Im using the BT homehub 2.0 and Ive had absolutely no trouble with it thus far

I think thats your problem, HomeHubs are notoriously bad for gaming.

I also have a BT HomeHub and had ex actually the same problem,. Port forwarding didnt seem to be very successful and my only solution was to put my router into DMZ mode. It might be worth ago, as a temporary solution but make sure you turn DMZ back off after you have finished because it leaves you more prone to viruses etc.

If you want help putting your router into DMZ mode feel free to post again.

DMZ places your computer outside of the router's firewall - it puts you in the same position as if you had a modem plugged directly into your PC. Before doing it you should make sure you have a software firewall, antivirus and that Windows is completely up to date.

thanks for the help guys. At the minute I havent bothered using antivirus on my XP partition as i only use it for gaming, everything else I do in ubuntu. But I'll get myself royally firewalled up etc over the weekend and give this DMZ a blast. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

EDIT: Tested my network today, looks like the router ports are the problem, Ill sort me some virus protection etc, then I'll have a go at this DMZ mode. Thanks again for the help folks
