Well my mate has been getting the whole 'emulation' hijack crash bug, so he uninstalled, cleaned the reg out and tried reinstalling. Now he's getting a cyclic redundancy error when he tries to install SS. Both these problems are due to detection of 'emulation' programmes. However the problem lies in the fact he has never, ever had ANY emulation software installed on his pc. So it's not a case of an age old hidden registry file from when he randomly had some, he never had it. There is not a single trace of emulation software on his pc, but securom (god bless it's persecution of legit customers) is seemingly adamant that there is some on his pc.

This isn't specific I know, but it sounds like a patch end problem with a possible securom update (agaaaaain) screwing with his game. Has there been any solutions found to this yet? Or any official mention? He says he's gonna buy a new game, but I fear as soon as he patches it the securom will have another false alarm.

We have a thread (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=206415) going on the post patch emulation issue.

As to the CRC error - that kind of error is normally raised when the PC cannot read the disk correctly, have your friend carefully clean the disk and check it for scratches.

My friends disc is completely clean, and CRC errors are due to emulator presence usually.

No they arent, a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is a method computers use to confirm that data they are receiving is uncorrupted. A CRC error whilst installing a game (any game) means one of three things:

1) The disk is damaged.
2) The disk is dirty.
3) The drive itself is faulty in some way (this is easy enough to test by trying a couple of other disks in the drive).

I suspect that if you take your copy of the game round to your friend and use that disk to install for him then you would not experience the CRC error. He would probably still get the emulation error upon patching, however, and he will need to contact Securom about that.
