1) Yes, the patche changes to the units effect the campaign as well, but the story will be the same

2) I heard there is a camera mod that allows you to zoom out.

3) rockets or arty? Both have sound, but there have been many threads on this.

Pytho answered everything pretty well.

The patch fixes up bugs in the campaign as well, so if you encountered game-breaking bugs before, it may be gone.

There is a mod for zooming out much more than normal. You can find it here: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=174773

Your third question would be better answered if posted in the strategy section, with more specific information. What kind of artillery are you talking about? Wehrmacht Walking Stukas or Nebelwerfer? PE Hummel? At any rate, the usual way of countering artillery is rushing into close quarters so it cannot fire on you, or counter-artillery.

Although, be warned that questions like these are prone to being trailed off topic, so make sure that if you do ask a strategy question, you stay active in it.

well, the patches only apply some changes to the single player game. a lot of the single player game is acctually scripted and individual modifiers making them unique to Only the single player game.

however some changes to specific units and abilities are seen in the single player.

Can you rephrase that? "just wonder how much forward knowledge is realistic" ? Don't understand what you're talking about.

If you actually read the zoom mod post, you'll see it is "legal" and it still does work online, as least for now (version 2.301). If it wasn't illegal, everything would have been deleted. If you want to see what people have been saying about it in regards to "Is it unfair or not?", you can visit this this 15 page locked thread (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=172022&page=15&pp=15). As for me, I have never used it before, and I probably won't bother since zooming out further would lag my computer.

i suppose what l am asking is, "How much forward information was available to the allied commanders", although that knew the lay out of the land, what did they really know of any forward placments and troop numbers...l like the zoom function... but it is getting the default orientation at what the vanilla CoH was at.. that zoom is great initially..

he is asking a reality question.

in reality how much did allied commanders acctually know before they went into combat?

truth be told... they knew very little.

all they really knew was that it was owned by the enemy and the allies wanted it so some boots had to go to ground to get it. you have a general idea from intel, recon runs, and scouts/spies to help you assess a situation and determain how much of a threat is there, but by no means was any of this information concrete or completely correct.

most of the time allied commanders found out where enemies where simply by running into them.

thxks for the replies...

don't think that it was the commanders that found out where the enemies were.. l think it was the grunts in the field...
:)

oh and l'll stop with the realism...

Hi again:

Instead of commecning a new thread.. just thought l'd continue this one..
l do have another question of two:

so TIA for any answers:

If a unit is stationary, at which eneny unit wil it fire at.. :)

and what bonuses do the vet upgrades get you...

Each unit has a targeting table which decides which units it will fire at.

i.e. If you have a rifle squad and an AT gun vs a volks squad and a stug, the rifles will fire on the volks and the AT gun will fire on the stug.

Vet upgrades, check CoH stats

You can override the automatic targeting table by manually ordering your units to attack a specific enemy unit (focus fire). Just select your unit and then right click on the enemy unit you wish to target. If you do this you need to be a bit careful though, if the enemy unit retreats your unit will try to follow it to stay in attacking range and may move out of cover.

As an example of when you might want to use focus fire, say you have an American M8 Greyhound accompanied by a rifleman squad and a flamethrower engineer squad. You come across 3 squads of Wehrmacht grenadiers, one of them equipped with schrecks. You might want to concentrate all your fire on the schreck squad first since it's the biggest threat, or use the M8 and engineers to attack it while the rifles fight the other gren squads.

just to expand on GeoffS piont about retreating units and focus fire, its something i've learned and use, keep an eye on the squad you've focused fire on as if it starts moving just hit "H" to halt your squad, there has been a few times where i've "lured" enemy squads out of there cover to get minced by an MG or if a unit has stopped just in front of a mine to draw them on to it.
