How to edit team-textures

These changes won't affect your ability to play online!

Aditionally to the normal modding-stuff you'll need a tool for editing DDS-Files (GIMP, Photoshop with plugin, PaintShopPro)

When defining color-schemes you can choose a "TeamTex" (1, 2, 3 or 4); this will change the way the colors are applied. One can edit these Team-Tex - but you cannot add new ones to the four existing (at least I didn't manage to do so). I've succesfully done this for the Space-Marines, you might want to try it with Eldar, Orks or Tyranids as well (I haven't tried these).

Now, first we have to find the Team-Texture file. It's a DDS-file (or up to 4 of them, depending on how many team-textures there are). How about opening the "GameArt.sga"-archive?
In there navigate to races_<race-you-want-to-edit>->troops and check the folder if there's any file with a name ending on "_tem.dds" or "_tem_2.dds" (or 3, 4). The number of the TeamTex specified in the color-scheme-file is the number at the end of the filename. If there's no number at the end, the number is "1". If there is a file ending the right way, extract it and open it up. If there's not, then navigate to races_<race-you-want-to-edit>->troops_wargear->armour and search for the units armour. In there there should be a file ending on "_tem_<number>.dds" or "_tem.dds". Extract it and open it up. Don't open MIPMAPs!
Now you should see a picture consisting out of Red, Green, Blue and Black areas. Red areas are those which will be painted in the main color, Green areas are those which will be painted in the secondary color and Blue areas are those which will be painted in the selected extra-color and Black is for the fourth color. When you're finished save the file as DXT5 and be sure to generate new MIPMAPs.
Now pack this stuff and tell your game to load it (check the other HowTos if you're not sure how to do this).

-cope.

Instructions for packaging archives and getting the game to load them can be found here: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=215592

Apologies, but I couldn't find a tutorial on this anywhere - if someone could point me to it I'd be most grateful.

I have installed GIMP with the DDS plugin and opened the file power_armour_common_tem.dds (without mipmaps). All I can see is the black outline of the chest pipes and a lot of grey squares. I've poked around the layers options and nothing happens, I still can't see the R G B values displayed. Could some one help, or give me a nudge to a more basic 'How to' for n00bs?

Cheers

I tried GIMP w/ DDS plguin briefly. GIMP has a really bad interface combined with the what appears to be a bugged DDS plugin and its not surprised you're having problem. Photoshop w/ NVidia DDS plugin is of course much better, but even that plugin has issues.

Ah right, so I need to get hold of a copy of Photoshop then? Pricey.

Cheers for the help!

not sure if this applies, but could this be used to make, say space marines have perma gold skulls/aquilla/trim, and team colourable weapons instead?
