Hello,

If anyone remembers back in the Beta it was possible to force Ultra settings on textures and effects fidelity (for example) by locating the games configuration.lua, opening it up in wordpad/notepad and changing the value next to textures from a 2 to a 3 (or maybe 4 I don't remember) and this would force Ultra settings on an XP based machine for DOW2.

Now I've got the full game and tried to do the same thing and even though I save my changes the game refuses to bump the settings up to ultra. I currently have something on ultra and all the rest of the settings are on high. The game looks amazing but I know I could run everything that can be on ultra, on ultra. I did it in the Beta with a fantastic framerate and never caused anyone any lag due to my settings. My PC can more than run this game on max and I think XP is my only limiting factor. However I refuse to "upgrade" to Vista, I'm waiting until Windows 7 is on the market.

So... Has anyone managed to force Ultra settings? if so please explain to me how I can do this.

Thank you very much

Add " -disable32bitcheck" to the very end of your DoWII shortcut, then you can pick Ultra settings in the in-game menu.

I'm starting to think this needs to be stickied. ^_^

No, no commas.

It hasn't worked. I tried it with and without commas and a space. How many spaces do I need?

Please post an example.

Try adding a space before -disable32bitcheck. And the patch notes says " Added a “-yam” command line switch to allow 32bit users to run with Ultra textures" so you could try that :P

Damn, I got it tow work but when I went to apply it the game crashed and I was prompted to send Relic a crash report.

Odd that apprently my PC can;t run the game with Ultra settings when it could do it just fine in the Beta. WTH could they have changed since then that has outdone my PC...?

Can you post a Dxdiag (http://forums.relicnews.com/showpost.php?p=3385096&postcount=2) please, this will tell us what we need to know.

Update: I got it to work. Runs fine on Ultra. God knows what the crash was all about...

Thanks all.

Note. I sent the error report to Relic. Hopefully if it's a bug that slipped past QA and Beta then they can sort it.

It beggars belief why Relic chose to cripple the graphics on 32-bit machines... what on earth were they thinking? Mind you, that's a quesiton that could be asked about DOW2 in general I guess. I'm going to try this fix.

mine crashed when i first run this command but then it worked fine :-S

i found another way to do this ,like in the betta, go to the settings file change texture detail and effects fide3lity to 3 save BUT then right click on the file and make it read only so that the game cannot change back the settings to 2 (as it does) automaticaly. this way you have ultra settings :-)
