I recently purchased the DoW Platinum + Soul.. from Direct2Drive. I installed DoW game of the year edition, and it runs fine, but after expanding DoW Winter Assault, I get an error message that says Please install Dawn of War before installing this product.
I have Vista 64 Home Premium. I have disabled UAC, tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but still get the same error message.
I tried installing the game to C:\Program Files(x86), but it would let me. I tried changing the THQ folder from read-only, but its protected.
What am I doing wrong?
WA is likely checking the registry for the DoW information - check in there to make sure it has been created (start > run > type "regedit" > search for "THQ").

In Registery Editor, there is an entry:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\THQ\Dawn of War
Is that what you mean? Seems like there is something there.
I'm reluctant to start editing the registry, any suggestions?

What's inside that registry folder?
There should be values for your CD key, the installation location, version, etc - do they look correct (specifically the installation location field)?

I had tried to install the game within a special user on my Vista, as that is what they had recommended, but eventually tried installing the game in my OS admin user. That worked fine, but the game still won't run under my other user ID. Thats okay, I don't mind playing it under my admin ID, but it would be nice to figure out how to get it to run under the other user ID.
Vista has quite a learning curve. I'm convinced this is just another settings issue.
If only all the software developers would just give all their money to MS to join in their elitist club, I'm sure we wouldn't have these problems.

install dow and keep it unpatcheed and then ..open winterassaultupdater.exe from the WA-cd and after the update is complete the installation will start.don't install any other patches before you do this
i hope this works for you too :)
