View Full Version : I'm on day 21, and I have found nothing of use for Cyrus...

I have found a shotgun(Level 5) and a Sniper Rifle(level 3). I have not been rushing through the game, and doing optional missions here and there. I even only have two additional pieces of armor for him, both also at low levels. I effectively have to leave him on the barge for all the missions, as he doesn't deal enough damage and dies to quickly to be effective.

I feel like I have been really unlucky with wargear for him, but surely the game would give me something to use for him. The curse of random wargear, I guess.

*Edit* I have started putting points into him so I can use some of the Flamers I found, but I don't think using Cyrus in that way would be that effective.

Actually, Cyrus with Flamers and Bolters are both good options. Autosuppression anywhere near him at any time is quite handy (although be careful not to confuse this with making him invulnerable, he can still be killed standing in the open against a horde of suppressed Orks), and his special Flamer ability kills just about anything if you can keep it in place for a moment. Throw it on a nasty ranged enemy cluster (to kill them) or in front of a charging horde (to weaken them all quite severely) whenever you feel like it.

Cyrus should never really be getting shot anyways. All his armors do is give you a bit more wiggle room if you screw up and he gets targeted. After a few missions he should never be seeing front-line combat again, instead infiltrating into place and spamming abilities before and during any fight (Blind Grenades, Remote Charges, and Detpacks are a great loadout). Shooting weapons is just a hobby, ability spam is his job. His infiltrate ability makes him the best at ability use because he can get into place where the ability can be most effect, so take advantage of that. Unlike other sergeants, who choose weapons based on what they can kill with them, Cyrus should choose his weapon based on what abilities he gets with it.

As i m at day 23 (second campaign ) it looks to me that the items are ramdom generated. Maybe to play oncemoore.
In the first campaign i found a lot of termies and only one lvl 8 sharpshooter gun.........In the second moore meele stuff .
So i think you should use a mod, where moore items drops.
(I ve played after the final a lot moore by defending to get moore items, especially the blue ones and stay now at day 49 )

I've never seen the need to get him advanced gear anyways. The first useful scout armor he gets has +20% sight range, which I find great. The sniper rifle will allow you to use high-powered shot if you have the right perk, and it can 1-shot basically every non-boss enemy regardless of the actual weapon he has equipped.

Once you get the perk that lets you use items without breaking stealth, you're golden and armor basically means nothing. Blind Grenades, Remote Charge, and the Detpack meant Cyrus was actually better staying stealthed and chucking explosives behind the lines.

The only decent armour for Cyrus is the +sight armour and the ones with capes, because they quadrupole his awesome looks stat.

But I find he usually forms the lynch pin in my games, picking off turrets, weapon teams, and saving my ass when every one else is dead.

Cyrus' main strength is indeed using all his accesoires. i'd really advise to go for that "use items while cloaked" trait as fast as you can. I've also had the most uscces with Cyrus using the sniper rifle and bolter. There's this level 20 sniper rifle that's so incredibly powerful it's almost not funny anymore. It was a reward in one of the optional missions I got on day 25.

High powered shot is especially powerful against Eldar, to take out those damned platforms, and Tyranids, to shoot those synapse creatures. Explosive shot is much better vs orks, as they usually don't have single infantry units. Supressive fire is always good, and giving him a good bolter makes him good against orks, even when out in the open. The smoke bomb trait increases his survivability tenfold, I never lost him to enemy fire ever since I got that one.

Also, read the mission briefing before choosing his gear. Detpacks are only useful if you're certain you're going up against bases. Infantry usually dances it. When you have the item-invisible trait, you might wanna try equipping Cyrus with frag grenades instead of Tarkus. You'll have tons of fun with that, I can assure you.

Also, I have this funny feeling that wargear drops vary on your playstyle. When I chose ranged setup in most of my games, I got far more scout weapons and armor than the time I focused on using Thaddeus and ended up having loads of close combat weapons and pistols. One mission, I even got four different scout armors and a shotgun. So I guess that using Cyrus more would also result in getting better wargear.

BTW. Do not put him in buildings. It makes him a sitting duck as he loses his stealth.

Blind grenade + the 5 second grenade is incredibly effective with cyrus once you can use accessories while stealthed. It'll kill almost anything caught in the blast, including instagibbing 12,000 hp seer councils.

As far as weapons go, I'd really recommend the sniper rifle or flamer. The flamer's special ability can be absolutely brutal against masses of infantry when placed right, and the sniper rifle does massive damage while allowing cyrus to stay far enough away that his relatively low hp shouldn't be a problem.

I give Cyrus melta bombs to do hit'n run jobs on Deff Dreads, or to relay an arty on a bulk of troops.

However, I never use Cyrus against nids because of the high chance of him getting into a melee brawl.

I've been the opposite this play through. I've got 3-4 sniper rifles and a shotty for him right now. All the sniper rifles are awesome too. I'm almost disapointed because I havent found any non-reward melee weapons, so thads been pretty left out. I guess thats part of the replay of the single player.

Cyrus is by far the best unit in the game.

Once you level him up he is a must have IMO. He can eventually use all his abilities still cloaked, and he can revive squad leaders instantly.

Also if you give him the stun grenade, the frag, and the satchel charge, he can totally own squads. And you have the remote bomb which is brilliant for defend missions.

Then you have his sniper rifle which can 1 shot kill dangerous stuff like eldar platforms, Tyranid wariors with venom cannons, or big ork bosses.

TBH I have found him most useful in defense missions against the nids. His slots allow for the additional Spider Turrets which are just useful, if not essential and his Sniper Shot is far more useful for breaking synapse. However it has to be Thule all the way for me though. Thaddeus is just a paper tiger. Cyrus has his uses but they seem situational whereas DT is just a better all round pain dealer.

nowadays i keep all squads on rotation. on defend-missions, Avitus and/or Thule are useful, and versus Space Elves i keep them in the line-up. for supporting the FC i swap between Melee-Tarkus and Thad. would it be a Ranged-Tarkus, i'd go for Thad alone.
versus Orcs pretty much the same. Nids is different because i love to snipe the synapse-creatures. and the blobs are larger, so dropping in a blind followed by a frag or det-pack is fun. Bug-Entrails on every wall! so Cyrus is on board for that.
on search-and-destroy-missions i deploy with Avitus, Thad and Cyrus. before having termie-outfit for Thad, i went with Tarkus. which i still sometimes do, when i have no sense for or am just too lazy for microing the invinci-porting Asstermies.
near the end of the campaign none of the squads can really be valued above any other, imo. they all fit to a certain playstyle. usually i am the sneaky one, scouting with Cyrus and bombing enemies to the next world. other times i have lots of lols just going straight forward with Melee-FC and Melee-Tarkus/Thad (w/ or w/o termie armor), especially against Orcs.

However, I never use Cyrus against nids because of the high chance of him getting into a melee brawl.Wow... I would not do a nid mission without him... if anything he is optional on Ork missions.

Highpowered shots will slay anything short of a boss, which is great for sniping Zoans and VC Warriors, which will then cause the nearby nids to eat each other for a short while. You can clear a map without any casualties this way.

Cyrus is my most indispensible unit, and he is nearly completely unreliant on weapons and armor. So long as he has a sniper rifle, no matter the level, he's set. This is because the sniper shot ability's damage, at least on everything except maybe bosses, doesn't matter. It could be a lvl 1 sniper rifle and he'll still 1-shot everything save bosses.

I take him on every mission to level him up ASAP. I get him the 3rd item slot first, then go for the ability to use items without uncloaking, then the ability to move faster while cloaked. I equip him with a sniper rifle and the frag, det pack, and krak grenades. He's an army of one. If you balance out the use of your abilities and pick up supply crates, he can basically clear a map single-handed. Frag mobs, snipe mini-bosses, det pack turrets, generators, and spawners, krak the Orc and Eldar vehicles (kraks are useless vs. tyranids).
