View Full Version : Any 40K Players Out There?

Hi all!
I've just heard the announcement...needless to say, I'm very excited about this game!
Who out there plays 40K? (I mean the current tabletop game, of course.) What army do you play and what things would you like to most see in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War?
As for me, I'm a Adepta Sororitas players, and of course, I'd love to see the Sisters of Battle as a playable faction in the game--honestly, I'd be completely dissapointed if they weren't.

I used to play, many years ago, but I was never terribly good at it. I've had Eldar, Chaos and Blood Angels armies in my day; used to be alright at painting, although I could probably count the number I completed on my fingers and toes.

Space Wolves player here. Switching over to 13th Co. (couldn't tell could you :p ) I also have a Tau army I enjoy a lot.
I've just started a new Cadian army that I'm looking forward to getting into battle.
What I would like to see? Hmm ... Space Wolves of course, though I doubt any of the specialized chapters will be included. Considering RTS games usually only have 3 - 6 factions involved ... you're looking at a wild guess of ...
1.) Ultra Marines
2.) Imperial Guard
3.) Eldar or Tau
4.) Orks
5.) Tyranids
6.) Chaos Marines
It will be VERY interesting to see this as it developes.

40k is was so cool. Necromunda was cool too, although i didn't meet many players that knew about both.
Anyone remember when harlequins were thier own army?(rogue trader)
Definately eldar or 'nids

I collect Eldar (Saim Hann) and Space Marines (imperial fists)
And for what i'd like to see!
1) Color custimization for your army or preset ones (like Ultramarine color scheme). And badges too, just like HW2. So you could really create any faction you wanted to.
2) All troops should be able to go into melee combat!
3) The ability to biomodify (or whatever its called) your Tyrannids.

I collect Eldar (Biel Tan) and Imp Gaurd. ( I play the Imp gaurd as storm troopers though.
I play mostly Eldar but I have some Tau, the thing I would want them to do with this game is make it right. No cutting any corners everything has to capture the epicness of warhammer its scope and the uniqueness of the different races. Some how they have to make it as dynamic as the table top game. I just really hope it doesnt end up like any other rts type game and have rushing and other stuff that you really cant do in the tabletop version which would in my opinion would ruin the game.

Nice. Speaking of Cadia, was there any official announcement of which side "won" the Eye Of Terror campaign? Last time I checked the official site it didn't really have a clear answer.
Space Wolves are uber, no doubt. I play against Tau most of the time. I usually do well, though I've learned that SoB tanks + Tau railguns = smoking wrecks!

I think your right about the Asartes chapters, they'll probably just pare it down to the Ultramarines.
You list sounds right to me. Reality aside though, here is my wishlist:
1.) Sisters Of Battle (Well, I can dream, can't I? :p )
2.) Space Marines (Imperial Fists, just because I'm tired of Ultramarine Blue and the Space Wolves stray to far from the codex)
3.) Chaos Space Marines (Black Legion Chapter)
4.) Orcs (Waaaggh!)
5.) Dark Eldar
6.) Imperial Guard
And then Eldar, Tyranids, and Tau in an expasion.

I thought Necromunda was a cool idea, though I never played. I bought some Escher minis and converted to Redemptionists, though!
I've thought about making a Harlequin army using the optional (and less powerful) list on the website, but I'm not a good enough painter.
I've love to be able to use any of the 40K armies in 40K:DOW. I'm not holding my breath, though!
If I recall the chaos forces won the eye of terror event. However it was by a small margin and imperial forces still hold sway in most of the sectors including on cadia itself so I suppose all hope is not lost. Unless your a chaos fan (I play eldar so this dismayed me immensly).:soul:

There was a thread about this in General Discussion a while back.. . did that thread inspire this game at all by chance?
I used to play and paint Dark Angels years ago before the hobby became a little too expensive for my tastes.

finally a 40k game that will be decent! To date, all 40k games have been flops, including Firewarrior. Relic is about to change all that.
I play Chaos Iron Warriors, and have a converted daemon prince model Im proud of. They are my first and current army. I play almost weekly with a bunch of friends including a guy from toledo wuth almost $30000 worth of the stuff. Awesome universe. Im very excited about this.

I sure hope this will be good. The Warhammer 40000 universe is such a rich, colourful, cool and utterly and sinisterly nightmarish, excelent settings for a game.
Anyway, I collect Eldar (Beil Tan) and I'm planing on starting a Chaos Space Marine army (Black Legion probably, though maybe a Nurgle army instead)

There's something lovably expendable about them. Perhaps their lovable expendability?
I play Blood Angels
they better be in this, i know where you live Relic

Well..in the past I played Dark Eldars..I love this race..unfortunately most of my friends were playin Space Wolves or BloodAngels..and I never could win with them(DarkEldars are very difficult to be a first army)..so I switched to Chaos Marines...and I started to battle them on equal grounds ..so now my favorite army is Chaos Marines.
There`s nothing like watching Abaddon or Ahriman crush those weak Space Wolves :)..heck..I actualy took one of my friends damaged space marines..cut his plastic head off..painted it in Space Wolves colours, glues it next to Abaddon`s feet..and painted blood and cracks on it :D Man..my friend was pissed off :D

I used to collect Dark Angels & a smattering of Saim Haan Eldar and World Eaters chaos marines but I had to stop when it became more expensive than I could afford and I realised that I'd not played anything except the occasional game of Blood Bowl (with my mighty undead team, the Charnel Valley Corpse Grinders) in 3-4 years. I'm REALLY hoping dawn of war will kick arse.
Any word on the era? With a name like Dawn Of War I half expect it to be set during the Horus Heresy.
Onix1
11th Dec 03, 2:04 AM
I hope its set during the first Tyranid invasion. Hive Fleet Behamoth. The one which invaded Ultramar and manages to kill their primarch Terminator squad.
Even the Ultramarine Titans couldnt stop the Tyranids on the Ice plains!
Lictor + Hero character = failed break test

11th Dec 03, 2:26 AM
Myself, I play Blood Angels and Eldar (although I won't be completing the army till the new codex and models come out). I also play Imperial Guard, although I don't technically own a force of them.
I don't think Dawn of War will be set in the Horus heresy or the Hive Fleet Behemoth invasion, as the heresy really only encompassed the Imperium and Chaos while Behemoth only really involved Imperial forces in the Ultima Segmentum and the Tyranids.

I've followed the universe and rules a little, but never actually had an army.
whishlist for races:
1)Eldar
2)Space Marines
3)Imperials
4)Tyranids
5)Orcs
and then have expansion for
6)Chaos Space marines
7)Tau
8)Necron (funny noone mentioned them yet)
9)Dark Eldar
anyways, are there any differences between the diff space marine/chaos marine factions that go beyond colors, philosophy and weapon preferences? i mean why whish for space wolves if all you'd need to do is color the standard space marine army differently and give the Land Raider some different weaponry?

Haven't played any games for a while, none of my friends are 40k players.

I played the previous editions of warhammer and 40k. I played (and still own) the spacemarine. Ive extensively played This edition of 40k as Dark Eldar against almost every army there is. (Prays DE are in this game) I also play Battlefleet Gothic as the Imperial Navy.

i play tau, i'm relatively new to it but its all been good so far, i'm not sure if they'll turn up in the game though, they seem to be quite far down the list of prioities (no epic army until 2006 :()
btw, does anyone play epic? me and a friend used the new epic armageddon rules (available for free somewhere) to do 2000 poitns apiece of marines vs. eldar. the scale is immense, i had 2 titans and a vampire raider to support my huge amount of troops and bikes

Heya,
I play Warhammer 40K (Guard, Marines, Chaos - Night Lords). I also play the Warhammer 40K CCG, and the new Horus Heresy CCG. And now it looks like I'll be playing Dawn of War! =)
I also run the Administratum Library site for the 40K CCG. Check it out if you are a card player.

Hmmm,
I hope to see:
Dark Angels
Imperial Guard
SOB/DH/Assassins
Orks (even though I hate them!)
Chaos (looks like a Night Lord in the pic - WOOT!)
Tyranids
Necrons
Eldar
Dark Eldar
They probably won't do every faction (have to leave something for the expansion pack in case it sells well). I absolutely hate the entire stupid concept of Tau, so they can go ahead and leave them out entirely.
Whatever factions they include, I hope that all the codex options are available (at least in terms of unit variety). It would also be nice to see some of the Imperial Armor variants, and things of that nature. I would think Baneblades and Thunderhawks would be included if nothing else.
Oh, and no Tau... :)

I'm a big Dan Abnett and Gaunt's Ghosts fan, so I considered building a small Tanith force. I've still got to finish painting all my SoB, though!

I started with Orks, and they're my primary force. I have somewhere between 3000-4000 points of Orks, and I play them as a very large, foot-slogging army. I've also got a Space Wolves, Iron Warriors, and Tyranid army all around 1500-2000 points (painted, at least). I have small Tau and Eldar forces that I've recently started, and have almost nothing painted, and a handful of IG as well. Mostly, I enjoy painting lots of different kinds of models, so I tend to pick up a variety of things and paint until I actually have a playable group. :)

I used to play a fair bit with Ionfish and Madz, until being priced out of collecting and doing boring other things like studying.
I was the imperial guard whipping boy for many many different space marine armies. Highly enjoyable stuff. I think I won a game in three years as well!

Lets see what 40k stuff do i have...
3000+ Steel Legion army
2000 points of Marines
1000 of grey knights
1500 of necrons
1 armorcast warhound and reaver
and more spare bitz than i'll never need...

Alright my armies are as follows
5000pts? of Imperial Guard (My favorite army I love the idea of human triumph over impossible odds which humanity sees alot of in this world.
4000pts Space Wolves these Space Vikings are awesome and with the ideas from William Kings Space Wolf novels I never get tired of these guys they are the one marine army I'm into.
4000pts Space Marines: Meh!! they were my first army before I saw the light :)
Various other bits for other armies.
I have enough minis to put together at least a 1500pt army of
Eldar, Chaos and maybe 1000pts of tyranids. Trying to get rid of alot of the old stuff though.
I never get sick of 40k though no two games are ever the same. Your human opponents are as varied as a bowl of jelly beans and the Chess like feel of the game provides a series hit for the Strategist in me.

Hey there,
I'm Chris, a designer on DoW and a new 40K fan. I had come across the fiction a while ago but it wasn't until I joined the team last spring that I really started to collect any. Since then I have put together a 2000pt Deathguard Army (yeah jumping straight into a Cult army) and have about 1500pts of Orks waiting for me to finish off the last of the chaos models...
I'll try to get some pics posted soon so's you can see my pestilent little puss-bags up close.

40k fan since I sneaked a peak at my cousin's 2nd ed. Eldar Codex. Have ~2000pts. of various marines and at most 1400pts. of Tau junk. None of them have won me tournies, and I often precede myself with oration about my perpetual newb-ness! I've been a part of the online community (forums.waryammer.com, forums.portent.net, the GWMB, spacewolves, and the dead forum on maximumwarhammer) as the Khaine's Messenger/DesertGhostExarch (and a merry shout out to all who recognize me, since I know I'm bad at names). If I'd known about DoW ahead of time, I'd have registered here as DesertGhostExarch! Not that I probably can't now, but I've already rubbed shoulders down in the modding forum trying to get the idea for a BFG mod through, and it'd feel awkward to have two accounts on a forum.

2nd Edition codexes are great finds, as they were much bigger than 3rd. I nabbed a 2nd edition Space Wolves codex off of Ebay and it filled out the history quite nicely, but isn't too divergent from the current fluff. One of the guys at Relic has a whole slew of older books that I covet.

I bought a Sisters Of Battle codex of ebay for around $30 (which was the going price at the time) which I am very happy with. The amount of fluff is amazing, and though the rules are outdated it gives me a better understanding of the Sororitas and their dark past.
I wish the new codices are like that. The new ones (like the new Chaos, IG, and Malleus codex) are better as far as content and presentation goes, but I wish there was more fluff in them than they are now. I suppose it's due to the fact that if they GW doesn't write their fluff down for posterity now, they are free to re-write it at their leisure in the future ;)

I used to collect and play with a couple freinds we had roughly 1500 points of space marines (Ultramarines-me, blood angels and dark angels) 1500 points of Imperial (Arbites, Assasins, Old school imperial gaurd and some 2nd ed gaurd) and a ton of sweet sweet Space orks.
I loved playing with or against orks every game was a riot.
One game my Vindicare Assassin (man that guy was sweet) shot Ghazgkull Thrakka (the old ghazgkull) and his personal sheild displcaced him off the edge of the table!? We laughed so hard that that enitire game fell apart because no one could take it serious after that episode.
Man, I miss those days. Glad to see Relic's on board for this project
Can't wait to play.

I've got one....a game I played with my Sisters of Battle against a Tyranid army. I was doing okay in the beginning, and had controlled half of the battlefield when my front line crumbled under a furious counter assault by a group of genestealers. While I was repositioning my rearward forces to fill the gap and cleanse the xeno filth before me with holy flame and bolter fire, I was hit hard on my open flank by the combined might of a warrior brood and an Old One Eye, who promptly pulped the Celestian squad anchoring that side, and then squashed a squad of Seraphim to stop their advance.
In desperation, with no other forces available to stop them, my Canoness faced off against the Warriors and Old One Eye, with the light of the Emperor her only companion.
It was a miracle....the bugs just could not touch her. She ended up killing the warriors all by herself, and then went toe to toe with Old One Eye and carved him up like a Christmas turkey....no one could believe it. The rest of my forces regrouped and I won the game.

Just started playing WH40K this year, but I followed the fluff for about 7 years.
At the moment I'm building a dark Angel army.
Okay, now it is too late to say what I expect to be in the game, because the majority seems to be already revealed.
But I hope to see, that there are many preset colour schemes. Especially one for Dark Angels, because it is said to be impossible to give single squads different colours ( talking about Deathwing Terminators).
