While I'm the hardest Hardcore Nintendo fan, I have nothing against the others.

BTW, wasn't this posted already; I mean, before the crash :o

X-box is technologically superior.

PS2 has more games available.

Game Cube is Multicolored.

I like the X-box.

I was a die hard nintendo fan for the longest time (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, N64, Gameboy color). But, I went to the PS platform recently. So, PS2. I enjoy the amount of games.

But I have nothing against the Xbox or the Gamecube, I've played both in eletronic stores, and found them excellent.

wtf.
It doesn't really matter, they're all out of date anyway.

2.2GHz Pentium 4's, 2Gb of RAM, 64Mb 3D cards, 100Gb Hard Disks.... yes.... think I'll be sticking to the PC for the forseeable future.

I've got both a GameCube and PS2 now, and I like both very much.

The PS2 has more games, DVD playback, and I like the controllers. I also like that it's expandable should Sony ever choose to release the extra stuff. The graphics, in most cases, are inferior to both the GC and X-Box at this point, IMO. However, it's got the FF franchise and the GT franchise, which is why I've had it since launch. Being able to play my PSX games rocks also.

The GC is very, very cool. I bought it as a secondary system (Black) more geared toward play fun games (and Metroid when it comes out) with a few people. For that task, it is very, very good (SUPER MONKEY BALL!!!). I like the controllers a whole lot, and I think their proprietary storage media is also very nifty (those disks are so tiny). Graphically, the games are excellent. See Rouge Squadron II, and you'll see what I mean. Drawback, few titles.

I don't ever see myself buying an X-Box unless Square jumps ship to Microsoft. I hate the controllers, and there are no exclusive games that I want. I don't need it for DVD playing, and the internal HDD doesn't do much for me. On top of that, though the graphics may be better than the PS2's there isn't a huge difference, so there's very little incentive for me to blow around $400 for the box, extra controller, and a single game.

I'm a Nintendo fan myself...

and Gamecube is the only one I can see myself affording. Although, it is slightly weaker graphically than the other two systems and it is a bit colorful for my tastes. The controller is a nice size but rather like a PSX/2 controller with a few less buttons. Games I like: Super Smash Bros. Melee. I'm almost going to buy the system just for that.

Xbox looks promising because of its graphics, but all the games I've seen for it so far are total crap. Plus, it and its controller are a few bigarse muthaf***as. Games I like: None so far. But I do like the cool built-in clock and hard drive. Better than annoying little memory packs that you can get your almost finished FFX save on only to lose it, finding behind a refrigerator magnet in the basement where all use of it and the game saves on it have been destroyed.

PS2 has so many games...including all the PSX ones. That rocks...But Sony is Polish for Evil. Or something. And, it only has two controller ports. You have to hook it up to another $300 machine to play with four players...It's lumpy on the front as well. Technologically, it isn't up to par with some of Xbox's and Gamecube's acheivements as it came out several months before them. Games I like: Some of the stuff by Square. Also, the Gran Turismo series and 4x4 evolution.

Number of titles shouldn't be too much of a problem...because most games are coming to all three systems eventually. Except for those old PSX games I know some of you people really love.

Final Choice: Gamecube. If only for the fact that it's cheap and it has SSBM, a first party game that will very likely only come to Gamecube.

*edit* ach, skiewalker, thanks a lot for putting up a post nearly identical to mine...

On a personal note, I hate console pissing contests, so well done everyone for keeping this at least relatively intelligent.

Although I will lock anything that turns into a "My console is better than yours!!!111111" type of thread.

PS2
Pros: lots o games - DVD playing capability - pretty sexy looking
Cons: not as advanced as other consoles - expensive ($299 USD, $35 per memory card)

GameCube
Pros: small - cheaper than PS2 or XBox ($199) - good capabilities - nice controller
Cons: no DVD capability - not as many good games as PS2

XBox
Pros: DVD capability - powerful - Ethernet capability
Cons: $299 - not as many games as PS2 - big clunky controller

and just for laffs...
Dreamcast
Pros: small - cheap ($50!)
Cons: not too many games - "dead" - no DVD capability

basically all have good points, and all have bad ones. Me, I for one have only ever owned a PSX, which my PIII 500 can own into the ground... but hell.

None of them, they're consoles.
In case noones noticed, all console makers are doing now is racing to make a console work like a PC... internet, online gaming, DVD, so on. They even have the same games these days (FPS...wtf... RTS... etc). PC's are the innovation, and the cutting edge. Consoles are just playing perpetual catchup.

/me fondly remembers Sonic... Golden Axe... Street Fighter... if I have consoles I want games uniquely console-multiplayer. Not split screen FPS and the like.

Mummy! Mummy! Look at the nashty small-minded PC snobs fiddling with their Thrustmaster Pro's!

All of the consoles have their pros and cons. Ultimately, the decision depends on what games you want to play. The hardware specifications are irrelevant; the Dreamcast may be a dead system, but its got plenty of AAA games.

I love my PC, but I'm not going to turn down the opportunity to play Tekken at a party just because the PSX hardware is inferior.

LarrytheHairy
6th Feb 02, 12:27 PM
if i got to buy a system, i think that i would get the PS2. They have a variety of good games compared to the XBox and the game cube. the one game i'd really want to get would be FFX. that seems to be the best game out there for PS2 right now.:)

which console do i like? All of them, if it were up to me, id have all 3, but i dont have the cash so currently i have the one with most games and options (PS2) Its running great, and im really looking forward to getting some of the upcoming games (final fantasy 10 in particular)

PS2 has more games, its fairly small, and it can stand up on it's side, which is nice. OH OH OH and it has a blue and green light than can change colors. And it plays DVD's

Xbox is bulky, very few games, none of which are very good, and none of which take advantage of xbox's "superior abilities." And it also has to have an expensive little thingamajig to use the DVD (WTF it's expensive enough already)

Gamecube is small, but no DVD and not many shoot-em-up fps games. Its small though, which is nice.

Tygre
9th Feb 02, 3:07 PM
Also the GC has a handle on the back so in four years when the Nintendo 256, XPackage, and PS3 come out you can whack people with it. And the XBox can be taken apart and used as an underwear drawer. The PS2 will have no real use anymore...until they make a PSTwo which is exactly like the PS2 only small enough to fit two inside an XBox.

Walker
9th Feb 02, 8:54 PM
No, rentazilla, i wasnt being a pc snob.

I'd have a PS2 right now. I know jack about the gamcecube except its nintendo, so there'll be lots of cutesy games. I know the Xbox is fat and has crappy pads, and the stigma of ms on it.

But a PS2 is OK I guess. Really, I wouldn't want any of them. What do I need one for? My gaming needs are satisfied by the pc. There'd only be the occasional game along I'd even want...that's what its like on this, and theres a lot more not-my-kinda-games on consoles.

The only thing I'd need one for is to get piles of mates round and blast away on, except we have mates who host the piles on their PS2's.

XBOX ALL THE WAY
(My bias: I got it for free :) )

XBox is a tidbit bulky, I agree, but that isn't much of an issue. The controller I find to be very comfortable and easy to use, everyone that says it's big hasn't tried it well enough or long enoug or at all. I agree, the DVD thing is a rip-off, having to buy a seperate unit, but I believe XBox's DVD player is higher quality than the PS2's. XBox has far superior hardware, although sadly many games still look like crap. Halo looks kickass, Project Gotham looks kickass, DOA3 looks kickass, NFL Fever 2k looks kickass. Halo and Project: Gotham also have extremely good gameplay IMO.

PS2 is cheaper and better for now, but in a year's time, XBox will roll ahead.

Of course, PS2 has GTA3 and that's plenty worth it... :)

I think you guys are knocing the gamecube the wrong way. I mean yea it doesnt play dvd's but that is the point. It is purely a game system, nothing else. Plus with the new laser for dvds coming out in a couple years all dvds will be switching format so you want be able to play on the xbox or ps2 anyway.

For me:
PS2: Best for RPG
GameCube: Best For Multi-player
XBox: Best for somone how cant afford a computer

Y don't they make different colors of PS2 or GC?(there are two for GC already)

Tygre
22nd Feb 02, 9:07 PM
1. Because there is no Orange-red in the colors available.
2. Because to make text a color, you need a tag at the end.
3. Because Sony and Microsoft hate you and want you to die. And Nintendo realized that many of its potential customers are not homosexual and would like a color other than purple.

It had to happen.

I'd also like to add that I support the XBox. It's more powerful than the rest and therefore more pretty-looking. I still have hope that more good games will come out for it.

The PS2 is a hype machine. The Gamecube is a failure. Tsk tsk.

The only thing a console has over a PC is it's game library. There are plenty of games for consoles that I would really like to own (ie. GTAIII, it's going to be a long wait for April), but I don't have $1,200 required to buy all the consoles and the games, plus the fact that hooking them all up to the am TV would be a nightmare.

Which leads to another point, I could spend $2,000 on a PC most people would kill for and not have to replace it for a few years, or I could spend it on 3 consoles, each wilth a limited number of desiarable games which would slowly become more and more out dated until it's replacement (which would cost another $600-$700) was released.

Personally, I'd buy a PS2 over the others, but an X-Box isn't that far behind.

OK, the XBOX is a computer folks, i dont care if the thing is bigger than my stereo. as long as i can move it, its fine, but if its GC's size where it can easily be lost, forget it. and wtf is with that barney color anyways with that strap, i mean come on. there is a magazine thing out at target, 70 reasons why you must own an xbox. and all are true. i used 2 of the 70 in this paragraph.

im a nintendo fan (which is dificult at this time) so i have a gc, i also have a ps2, and i dont feel like giving more money to bill gates, and about the xbox being more powerfull, i dont know there are a lot of things you'll have to consider before making such statement. each console has its cons and its pros. so just wait till the summer games get out and there will be a lot of happy nintendo fans.

about the kiddy stuff for the gc, i think its about to change since nintendo's president just retired, so there will be a lot of blood covering the cube

also about the zeldas new look, you cant judge a game by its colors but its gameplay (halo may have pretty graphics but sucks a$$) and shigeru miyamoto is good at making games so well have to see

Resident Evil 0,1,2,3,4 coming out for the gc is all i need

obviously none of you guys who dis zelda actually read articles about it. There are two games coming out the paper on which sets back to a cartoon feel. if you look at the movies of it you might realize that it is a sweet idea. Also here havve post-poned the game that showed zelda and gandorf fighting... you know the one that had the best sword fight of all time,, yeah that one is still coming out.

X-Box - i said it once and I'll say it again. Microsoft wants to capitalize on profits, by doing this with PCs and Consoles they are kicking themselves in the nutz. Which is better to limit the consumers by only allowing games on X-Box or increase consumers but limit sales of X-Box by releasing games on both X-Box and PC...

PS2 - The best console for RPG's and "I kill you with fist games" ...GTA3, State of Emergency... Good fun factor but lacks multi=palyer feel

GC - Lets see.. um only system that has 4 player cabibilty built in. Smash Brothers and ect... Nothing will ever kill the nintendo hence nothing can come close to what GoldenEye did to revolutionize multiplayer games.

PC - Yes in the end all games will be on PCs... Why because PC will be all over and the uses will be endless.

ps.... i predicted the downfall of Sega as soon as dreamcast was released.

/edit --- no ,,, im not wrong that GC is only system with 4.... Ya see X-Box games arent designed for 4-players as much as nintendos are... most games on X-Box are made with a single player prespective and ad muti later.. GC think multiplayer first... Plus the controllers on X-Box are icky

ruh roh.....a console war thread....

GC - Lets see.. um only system that has 4 player cabibilty built in.

Ouch...k...wrong :| XBox has 4 controller ports as well plus broadband built in to it....think xbox is winning there....

halo may have pretty graphics but sucks a$$

Have you played halo? I mean really played it? I've had more fun playing 2v2 blood gulch then I ever have playing UT/Q3 (well....UT Assault comes pretty damn close though). Let me tell ya....4v4 is double the goodness....

The only thing a console has over a PC is it's game library

Hmmm...thats not the main reason I would see at owning a console. While the library is quite a bit larger the thing that got me to buy my console is A) The type of game and B) Playing games with someone right next to me. Console games are great for kicking back and relaxing....the games I play on my computer require a hell of alot more time and thought to play. If I want to just play a quick 20 minutes....its console all the way.

nothing can come close to what GoldenEye did to revolutionize multiplayer games

While I dont think it was revolutionary what goldeneye did I certainly cannot deny it changed the way alot of people looked at mp on consoles. The best mp game on a console I had ever played until Halo came out (sorry....PD seemed....I dont know.....cluttered and hard to play MP....maybe too many framerate problems).

Xbox is a PC in plastic.

INSIGHTFULL!

those mini disk thingies are only to look good, and having them small only takes away the games potential

Well...it allows for two things. The Gamecubes small size and a propriety format for Nintendo to cash in on for every game made on their system.

Bleh...I'm too damn lazy to go through this thread I guess. Okay....controllers....XBox one works absolutely perfect for Halo and works well for PGR....I keep messing up with it playing NFL Fever though (damn buttons are reveresed from NFL2k and I cant relearn button placement!). My roomie has a gamecube...havent seen it played since I moved in. Their opinions seem to be that they like Madden on the gamecube more than Fever on the box but other than that the box has the advantage. I picked up the gamecube controller and felt lost trying to figure the button layout but I figure that would be the case as its tough to get used to a controller without actually playing something with it. PS2's library owns all 3 right now.....to deny that is to be on crack. Nintendo always seems to throw out some AAA titles....its just a matter of time. Although, if its like it was with my N64, it will be severe droughts inbetween. XBox has hit a semi-drought right now imo....nothing out there is screeming at me to buy it.....you better beleive Project Ego will have a permanent spot in my xbox once it comes out (and this damn game looks good as hell (http://www.teamxbox.com/news.php?id=2646)).

LOL!

Well, I'm sticking with computers. I wouldn't be capable of affording a console and a computer @ the same time, so I get the one that also does work... the computer!

Of course, there is the draw back of the fact that my computer is pretty much not even manufactured anymore even though it was top of the line 1 and a half years ago... a 500 MHz w/ 192 RAM and a 32 MB accelerator. And soon it may be capable of playing GTA 3!! (I think this is more powerful than a PS2...???) An let's not forget what platform Homeworld and iC are for!

But this old HP is loyal, and has never failed me... at least significanly...

By the by, have you heard of the Panasonic Gamecube? It will be capable of playing standard DVDs...
