View Full Version : Physics Book
My friends and I were having a physics discussion the other day which got me to thinking about a book mentioned in GD. Unfortunately when I jumped on to look for it I remembered that the GD just got nuked. So, can someone help me out? All I remember about it is it was a fairly non-mathematically involved book dealing with more abstract and 'advanced' theories. I'm not sure if thats enough but I remember as it being fairly well received among this group and wanted to give it a look tomorrow during break.
Thanks

Was it "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene?
I started that therad... yes it was very non-mathematical, and would reccomend it to anyone interested.

I second that suggestion - I'd also recommend QED by Richard Feynman. With a title like Quantum Electrodynamics, don't let it scare you off - Feynman was a world-class lecturer and Nobel winner, and QED is pretty easy reading, to be truthful.
Thanks guys, just got elegant universe today and was looking for the universe in a nutshell but all they had was a brief history of time (which I hear is quite a bit harder read).

I like physics :)
Hawkings wrote two books, you may wanna check em both out. "The Universe in a Nutshell" is the one I remember. There is another one that I dont...
oh yah, Ion reminded me. "A Brief History of Time" I think its name is.

"Hyperspace" is another fine book. Don't ask who the author is; I read it 5 years ago.

Certainly one of the biggest. I couldnt tell you for sure. In the interests of preserving your account here, I suggest that you don't make a habit of this.
By the way, why is there a deleted account called SquidDNA?
You failed the bump though... it's "lol i agree"

My copy of Hyperspace was stolen by a small kleptomaniacal astrophysics major after I hauled it out to show her the "All You Zombies --" paradox. For some absurd reason we were discussing time travel at 0100 in the morning (duly noted that this is the time such topics tend to come up).
And for the inevitable comments, I already considered it.
edit: woah, what the fucking fuck? this thread is 3 years old! how dare you trick me. In that case, in before the lock.
