View Full Version : Stardock, Demigod - 50% off coupon exchange
A few months back, Stardock released Demigod, a DOTA-style multiplayer-focused game. Unfortunately their netcode was pretty shitty, leading to tons of complaints from the community.
There have been several patches for Demigod since it's release, and today this email was sent out to users:
We have been gradually improving the Demigod network connectivity for those who enjoy playing on-line with other people. On Thursday, May 21st, we released an update that introduced our own network of servers to host the connection for those users who have had a hard time getting connected to other players online.
As a token of our appreciation to our customers who have waited patiently while we've addressed the on-line multiplayer difficulties, we present you with this 50% off coupon on purchasing a second copy of Demigod(Digital Download) for your friends or family. This will only be valid until early next week so this would be a good time to use it.
In addition, next week we will be sending out a second coupon that will give users 20% off of any game or application on Impulse. To help encourage an active Demigod community, we will be occasionally be sending out additional coupons to active players of Demigod (people who play more than a couple of hours a week)
While it's obviously a marketing ploy, the net result is 50% off for a game which they're apparently (successfully?) trying to fix. Gogo brownie points with community?
If you have a 50% off coupon that you want to give away, post in this thread. Indicate that you have a coupon in your post title please. If you want a 50% off coupon, PM one of the guys who posted. If you have given away your coupon, please edit your post to indicate that you are no longer in possession of a coupon.
Well, if anyone is interested in a coupon, please PM me. Demigod is actualy a very fun game now.
EDIT: code sent.

Pm sent :D
Stardock are such handsome devils :P
Did that work? I was under the impression that you have to own a copy of Demigod for the coupon to work.

Well if it did work and anybody else has a coupon they aren't using, I'd definately be grateful.

I thought the coupon was to get others to sign up to the game - giving it to existing members since they would promote the game themselves (and hopefully double the user base)
oh and I'll take a coupon if there is one going spare!

I assume for it to work all you need is to enter the code into startdocks shop website - purchase the game (I assume as download only though they might also ship retail boxes out as well) and then download and install using Impulse
It would make sense that its for people that don't own the game otherwise why would existing owners want 50% off getting the game again?
Sweet. Ok, let's do this thing then. See first post for details.

I'd be interested in a coupon. By the way, how much exactly does the coupon save you? Actually, not just percentage wise.

it save you $20 off a download version - $25 off a download and retail box - but I am not sure if the coupon is valid for retail box versions - note that even if you get retail box I think you can still download as well ( at least you could for Sins of a Solar Empire)

It's digital download only according to Moe's quote, which I assume was from Stardock and is the words to follow.
I swear, you people are incapable of following the simplest instructions. Allow me to reiterate:
If you HAVE A COUPON (note: this does not mean "if you want a coupon"), then post in the thread.
If you WANT a coupon, send a PM to one of the people who have posted in the thread.
Let's review: Bob wants a coupon. Does he
(a) post in the thread saying that he wants a coupon
(b) wait for someone to post that they have a coupon and then contact that person via PM
The answer is (b).

Yeah, I got one of those.
It is nice to see they're turning back to a netcode architecture that actually works, because I bought it at release or so and today was the first time multiplayer actually worked. It's a fun game, but the bots aren't that interesting.
Edit: Coupon is now taken by JAL-18.

Off topic, but do we have a community games thread for this? I searched but couldn't seem to find one, and given Impulse is a new platform for me I need some dolts to play with.

I second EB's statement. Demigod is awesome fun (props to WingedKagouti) and I can see it being significantly better with fellow RN dolts.

Gogo brownie points with community?
hardly. I asked for a refund the other day because I'm tired of waiting for the game to be fixed. The multiplayer setup currently is beyond awful. I spend more time trying to get a game going/get into a game than I do playing a game. Last night for example I couldn't get a game going and after 5 or so attempts I just stopped trying. This is the usual occurrence for me over the past month I've had the game. There isn't any issue on my end either I don't have NAT errors or port forwarding errors either. The issue is when 1 person that does ruins the connections between all the other players trying to get a game going. The client currently is too stupid to boot them out and try to find a new player.
Oh wait I did get into a custom game last night. It was a 5v5 game in which the game kept stuttering ever 2 seconds although everyone playing had a green ping under 200ms. It was like we were back in 1995 with 56k dialup and I had to leave because it was so annoying.
So be forewarned the problems are still there although not as bad as before compared to any other multiplayer game I've played in the past 9 years it's bad, so bad that this is the first game I've asked for a refund on.
The game itself is fun and I enjoyed it when I played offline but I just had enough of the nonsense that is currently "multiplayer". How they released this game like that is beyond me.
