i have a pc with 2 of those 9-cm (extra) cooling fans, one sucking air into the system, and 1 blowing outward.
this is what happend to me yesterday:
i was playing on my Lan with my buddy, when all of a sudden, 1 of these fans (inward) short-circuited (at least i think) in about
3 seconds my whole room was filled with smoke, cause the outward blowing fan was still working!!, i quickly powered down the system, and openend the windows to let the smoke escape,
when the smoke cleared, i turned on the system again and everything was working fine, ..
just to be sure i removed the other fan from the system.. :D
close call this time...hehe

Once my computer started smoking because we were trying to install an internal zip drive. Burned all the cords, but it was my older computer, luckily!

i once saw a pc which was struck by lightning, via the phone-line, directly into the modem,
the modem-card was burned to a crisp, mainboard dead, CPU dead, memory modules dead, the only thing that was still working was the hard-drive,
talk about bad luck..

I've had my power supply short before....
Lit the power cables on fire, torched the video card and CPU, but nothing else...

One of mine got hit by lightning through the phoneline once. The mboard and cpu fused, the mouse made my arm stiff for 4 hours and the headphones fried my right earlobe, which continued to bleed for a day owing to bite wounds.
Good laugh, though. And it was under warranty.

You must have one crazy sense of humor to laugh at yourself getting torched. Now, if that happened to one of your friends, it'd be funny. He's just sitting there, typing away and clicking the mouse, there's a flash of white light, and BAM! He's out cold on the floor halfway across the room, looking like Albert Einstein. After all, "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall in an open sewer and die". Thenk you Mel Brooks or whichever Mel made that quote.

i've blown a monitor before. i left the computer on and turned the monitor off to save power. turned it on again and it started to smoke, i opened it up and the circuitry had melted together.
the downside was i had to get a second hand monitor that has a purple tint.
