suspended bridges

Is it at all possible to have suspended bridges that you can walk under as well as walk over?

No it's not possible I'm afraid due to the way the essence engine works. Every section of the map can only have a single height value associated with it.

That is what i was afraid of. I did see a suspended bridge object but never tried it for myself.
