get rid of the godawful music, or at least have some way to turn it off... could use a nicer design, too :)

I'm only using frontpage express, If I had the html code (hint hint) I might be able to put it on (hint hint) that could turn it off :)

I'm only using frontpage expressThere's your problem then.If I had the html codeLearn it.
Times New Roman fails, use Verdana or something similarly readable. Get rid of the music. Make the links work. Get rid of the horribly ugly borders. Change the colours, they're hideous. Get rid of those repulsive animated gifs and replace the main logo with a jpeg.
Then it might stop being quite so grotesque and merely be functionally mediocre.

ok points taken...
Site is still beng worked on, and is continuously updating more or less. It is NOT finished yet. As for the animated gifs, Im working on that problem, but they STAY, regardless. As for the border, well im still working on the site, such major changes are difficult.
Keep watching, as new things could pop up at any time :D

Hmmm yeah, it's a little garish :). Hey IonFish, since you seem to be an authority, what do you reckon of my Rebirth site?

ya, it's a nice design, but you've made a huge mistake by compressing the imags as JPEG. There's not very many colours on your site, and the images you do have consist mainly of large areas of solid colour.
Compress is as GIF and you'll knock the file size in half, and get rid of the JPEG artifacts (messy swirly bits) as well.
Someday people will learn - JPEG is not designed for graphical website elements or colour matching. It's for photographs and complex pictures...

Methinks Panther is right about your site, OneOfOneMillion.
Design = good. Nice and clean, just the way I like them.
JPEGs = bad (at least for this application - especially the navigation text)
Spelling = good, with a few exceptions:
"- Is it balanced?
Yes it is. I've had it beta tested by several people, and I have encorporated their suggestions into the mod."
incorporated
"Infected Bentusi Exchange
Meet the new Beast Carrier, with nearly impregnible armour and unrentlesss ion cannons."
impregnable
relentless or unrelenting

/me looks at GuaRRand's reply, shakes head vigourously, and says "Sshhh - make him learn HTML. WYSIWYG editors are for people who can already code and troubleshoot HTML. Case in point - he's already using FrontPage."

yes, WYSIWYG is evil and doesnt work decently most of the time.
I recently learned LaTeX and i have to say it REALLY EALLY owns word processors like Word or WP

my site at its current state is mainly a test thingy so i can get all my ideas out in front of me. v2 of rucentre will be much, much nicer - eg FLASH and logos that don't take 5 mins to load (soz about that :))
I try to go for simplicity and uniqueness (of sorts), so I went for a sort of Vgui website design, where everything is within a few clicks.
At the moment, I only have a few problems that need answering:
1) which colour goes best against black in a super l33t way?
2) What music would be good for a fast-paced-flash intro?
3) what do YOU want on the site?
GuaRRand

1. Orange (but thats patented ..by me :p )
2. None
3. Cheesecakes in 1001 different sizes and shapes!!
:wtf: :umm:

No suggestions on music, but the very first thing I look for on any splash page or animation, is the "skip intro" button or link. Very few users want to wait for information - much less an intro that takes forever to load. Keep in mind that the majority of people are still on 56k modems or less. Unless your intro is, itself, informative and interactive, then you lose a bunch of people when they can't get what they came for.

OneRedPanther. Yeah, I thought about Gifs, checking out image ready's attempt for gifs, notice practically no difference in size, but a large difference in color, and opted for jpegs. Yeah, it does screw up the text a little.... :( And secondly, Jpeg is perfectly fine for the main graphic in mine because it is a complex image. :)
DeadGuy: Thanks for catching the spelling mistakes. I will change those with the next news update. I also agree with the HTML thing. Learn HTML, and once you do, use a WYSIWYG editor, and switch to notepad when it's not good enough to do what you want.
Beast: As for suggestions for the site, some annoying music that you can't turn off, and changes volume abitarily, a "skip intro" button that doesn't skip, and a flash intro that just says "loading" without ever going anywhere. :) Classic webpage stuff. :)

Am I to understand that gifs are better than jpgs? I wonder if there is something better...
deadguy

No.
GIF = good for flat areas of color - best used for text, and spot color images. Capable of one color transparency and animation. Bad for smooth gradients, as only capable of 8-bit color (256 colors)
JPEG = Good for compression of true-color images (24 bit). Excellent for making large photos smaller, but with a loss of quality. Bad for areas of flat color, due to the nature of the compression algorithm.
PNG = Good replacement for GIF, capable of animation and 32-bit graphics (24 bit + 8 bit alpha transparency). Poor compression ratio compared to JPEG.
Flash = Good for animated graphics and scaling vector shapes, an include sound. Bad for simply displaying a picture, especially 24-bit.
SVG = Sounds like a good format, but I don't know enough yet.
my new site design will be vrml style :D
Hope you like the idea......
