View Full Version : Breakthroughs!!

Homeworld was a major breakthrough due to it's real 3D nature. Cool, that was unique and had a ridiculously cool plot. Next is Impossible Creatures, which will be new and unique due to the degree to which you can modify every creature! Also, very cool and unique.

But the question is, What's next? Can you possibly get more cool and new? But of course, it is always possible. What could it be thou?

IMHO, a next breakthrough would involve something with a near human AI, so that if your connection doesn't work one day, no problem! Just challange a CPU that could proly beat you! Some people say that a computer will never reach the intelligence of a human... well, never say never!

It should also include something that everyone would enjoy. It has to be fun of course! What do people consider fun? According to the most popular games on the planet, Sci-fi, action, and strategy go well together (What game has sold better around the world than Starcraft?). But there are already too many of these. Is there some alternate option that we could resort to? Whatever it is, I must reiterate that it must be something enjoyable and fast paced [I][B]If wanted!!![B/][I/] You might want to just build a nice space city without very many offensive ships, but maybe a huge defensive minefield... (Wow, getting a little homeworldish... but you know what I mean, right? :D)

So AI and a choice of fast or slowness. What else? Well, more minor aspects would include ease of use, graphics and all that.

I definately did not go over everything that is needed to make a great game, so what do you think should be added to make something that would be very successful, new, cool, and groundbreaking??

Umm... you can play the homeworld CPU set to hard and I bet you couldn't beat it.

Of course, for FPS games like tribes 2, yeah, some decent ai would help.

Right now, however, games are pushing the graphical barrier more than the gameplay. I think that MMPOGs are going to be the newest rage, with most games being persistent universe games.

Oh man, the 10-6 people must feel proud... :)

Also, I think personalization (I hope) will be a trend... making your own skins/decals...

well if theres gonna be a true AI, then its tactics and personality (if it should have one) should be carried over from game to game, so it actually feels like your playing a person you know (or can talk to about past matches), not just a random person each time. If theres a personality it shouldnt just be how it plays, the player should be able to have decent conversations with it (something which no AI i have seen can do without fouling up 2 sentances into the convo)

Maybe not againsed 4 of 'em, but one on one, even one on two CPUs on hardest and attack human only is easy to beat on HW. Just take out their resourcers from the beginning and it's no prob.

Hey, I seem to remember you telling me "Before I try playing online, I'm going to beat the computer at the hardest level all against me!" I remember you telling me that last year.

ANY Way what I wanted to say was:
If they do create a program that learns from you, people will just have to make new stratagies CONSTANTLY to be able to beat it. Also it may aquire new stratagy's from on-line gameplay and other computers.

I thought C&C TS's AI carried it's battle info from game to game? I read it in a mag a WAYS back though.

Actually beating the HW AI wasnt that bad. I remember Athexx put up a competition awhile ago seeing if anyone could beat 7 AI on Hardest Difficulty + Attack Human Only. Myself and Vektor (was that who it was?) did it. There were also a few variants, vs 7 AI with no salv vettes, vs 7 AI with no repairing ships, and vs 7 AI with no salv vettes and no repairing (that one was more of a bitch ;) ). I know I did em all and I think vektor did as well....

Ya, and I did, I just didn't beat 4 of them.

Is it just me, or does the computer learn indeed from previous games??? Or does it just get lucky...???
