I've done some preliminary models of some concept shots and some of my ideas, please feel free to tip/comment.

Using Rhinoceros 1.1, no textures as of yet...

These two are models I've made of the Dan Mayer shot, Ship Design

Original Unsmoothed Shipdesign model
Original (unsmoothed) Shipdesign Shot A (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/Homeworld%202%20Birth%20Mod_files/Shipdesign.JPG)
Original (unsmoothed) Shipdesign Shot B (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/Homeworld%202%20Birth%20Mod_files/Shipdesign%20Rear.JPG)

New, Smoothed Shipdesign model
Shot A (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/New%20Shipdesign.jpg)
Shot B (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/New%20Shipdesign2.jpg)

Carrier Design
Shot A (sorry for the jagged edge) (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/boring%20you%20say.jpg)
Shot B (same...sorry for jagged edges) (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/still%20boring%20is%20it.jpg)

Destroyer/Battlecruiser Design (note the launch ramp)
Shot A (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/NewestFront.JPG)
Shot B (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/NewestEngines.JPG)
Shot C (http://www.intergate.com/~tnbngr/NewestTop.JPG)

If you want to see other shots of each, or higher quality shots, I can render and upload them.

Interesting,

Seems a bit too thin for my tastes though -- why is it designed this way? (Theorectically).

I like the fighter (not every spaceship needs to be chunky), the carrier's a little too rounded, but I can't say I find the BC appealing. Thing looks like a half pipe with an engine.

One very important thing, you cannot use smoothing for in game ships, they add way too many polys that you probably don't need, if you want a part of your ship to be curved use chamfer for it, yes it's tedious but it will save you a lot of polys.

I'm thinking of going back to the original flat sides on the Shipdesign, but even with that it's around 1000-3000 polys before it starts to get jagged and scratchy.

Carrier is way bad, I had serious problems with it...

as for the carrier, I'm scrapping everything but the docking bay style, but it IS way too rounded.

how so?

The battlecruiser is going to be changed, I'm scrapping the engines and main cannon (the ladder frame in the gap) and making the little channel go all around it. I'm going to try to make the engines kind of take the V-channel shape, then smooth out to more of a destroyer-style engine.

What do you ppl think of me adding heavy missile launchers to the hex-shaped gaps on the sides? Kind of a anti-frigate/engine disabler weapon...non regenerative missiles that only shoot at engines or something...

Anyway, night folks its 10:22 here, and I have more modelling to do tomorrow (maybe work on the BC some more)

Another idea is going to be me adding some laser rifles/small plasma turrets to the space between the upper and lower wing on both sides.

Update:
I mirrored the cockpit bit, stretched it to 1/3 size, and made it into a rounded out lower half (not smoothed, just looks more complete) Pictures to follow tomorrow.
