I loved those books.
I will definitely have high expectations of the movie, but it shows promise.

God help us; it'll probably be turned into an action flick.
Yeah. I wonder which pretty boy and hot chick they'll cast in it?
Never did read the book, BTW. I tried, but I just wasn't in a reading mood at the time.

if it's really being directed by David Fincher(Se7en, Fight Club, The Game) and starring Morgan Freeman (Shawshank Redemption,Amistad,Se7en ), then there is hope that it will not be a mindless action movie...but it can still be a lemon ....

Heh. It's worth bearing in mind that, god-like genius that David Fincher is, he did do Alien3... ;)

I got the book for free with the game :-)
Very first english book I read. (I'm Dutch btw.)
I'd love to see how the (CGI) Avians and Octospiders look. Oh, and the machines ofcourse.

I liked alien 3, I know nobody else does, but I trust my judgement more than theirs. And I'm an Alien fanboy.
Mind you, I have only seen it once, and that was about 5 years ago when I had less discerning tastes. Perhaps if I saw it again I'd change my mind.

Alien 3 was David Fincher's first big budget film, so I don't think its a cause for concern. It's an ok film, but it bears all the hallmarks of a production where no-one was really happy (including Fincher).
RWR is good concept; I just hope they focus on the ideas instead of 'how things look'.

Rama, rama... I'm not a big sci-fi literature fan, whats it about? What are the ideas that it could be hoped they concentrate on?

Basicly, an organization called spacegaurd, that looks for asteroids that are going to hit earth, finds this massive cylinder that weighs 15 trillion tons in space. They send a crew to it, and they find it's totaly deserted except for some biomechanical robots that clean up the place, and everyone wonders what the F it's for.

Dont forget that it comes to life more and more as it gets closer to the sun.

That's all you're going to give me?

Oh yeah, it's like a mini-world inside it, with lakes and stuff, not a regular space ship like you see in Alien 3.

I don't feel spoiled, I just feel vaguely more interested than before.

It's sort of interesting on the whole, but thinking back to when I read it a few years ago, the series was a whole was pretty f**king confusing, too. gl to the movie ppl

Mmmmmmmm... I liked the original quite a bit. It's not so often I become truly immersed in a book like RWM. Anyway, I hope this turns out well... Fight club is just one of my favorite movies ever. With Fincher behind it, it's less likely to suck.

Blu, everything that's been said about the plot so far is exposition. Rest assured, no spoilage has occurred. :)

BJ - All of the stuff that's been said is revealed in, like, the first chapter:p Those aren't spoilers.

Not exactly, Langy, but I'm not going to point out what.

Well, I still feel annoyed I know details about the thing already, but thanks squid, I feel somewhat reassured.
However, if anyone else posts spoilers, they will be forcibly ejected through the nearest airlock with only a danish pastry for company as they asphyxiate,
anyone pointing out I spelt asphyxiate wrong will really suffer my wrath... (or soul's, if I'm feeling particularly annoyed)

I really disliked that series. IMHO, it was his worst books.
now, Fountains of Paradise and Empire Earth were good.

Could that be? I hear Star Wars: Attack of the clones will end that way to.

I agree the 3 sequils written by Gentry Lee sucked, but the first one was one of his best.
Yea I'm not sure you guys have seen the movie poster (http://www.rendezvouswithrama.com/sld003.htm) that looks like it took 5 minutes in 3ds or the Revenue Streams (http://www.rendezvouswithrama.com/sld011.htm) slide that comes last.
Despite liking the books, this looks like it's headed straight for video. I mean, for such an important film, why the f don't they hire something other than a PowerPoint monkey to do their site?
Boy, I can't wait for 2004.
