does anyone use this function?
how exactly does it work? is it what i think it is? (the ability to detect vessels outside of visual/sensor range) is there a way to ping the entire map and get a temporary glance at all enemy vessels?
Bones, I think you are in the wrong forum.
The ping lets you see all enemy vessels for a short time over the entire map. Once you have researched the ability, you can take a scout and execute the ping. However, each ping will cost you (I think it was 1000) RUs.
open your ships folder goto scout C:\Sierra\Homeworld2\Data\Ship\Hgn_Scout\Hgn_Scout.ship
find
addAbility(NewShipType,"SensorPing",0,1,10,2.5)
0 means this has to be researched, set to 1 if you dont want to research it
1 means it will ping to infinity, set to 0 if you want it to only ping to secondary sensor range
10 is the duration of the ping
2.5 is how long it takes to get to max range, make bigger if you want it to expand slower, make smaller if you want it to expand faster but make it less than duration time unless you want it stop before it gets to the edje of the map, could be a way to make it have a max range.

just open the exel speadsheet it explains everything but most if it is self-explanatory
