I was thinking about titans recently and I realised that I've never heard how a titan enters the battlefield
does anyone know anything about this?

They would have to be transported in landing ships , so think huge ones

Sometimes they're teleported down.

Thats the most reasonable idea. Or maybe they set up a field base and assmeble them by parts...wait im giving the Gue'La to much credit.

Sometimes they're teleported down.

emm they cant even teleport full terminator squads down with reliability , i doubt a emperor or warhound class titan would be doable , it could turn up anywere in anything

peicmeal or huge transports of the titan leigions from mars more likely

If you've read the book Firewarrior, an example they have is the Titan actually being built there. Teleportation is not reliable, so I assume, once assembled the Titans are transported in by some large craft.

If you read Storm of Iron, they describe them coming down in mammoth landing ships. Page 70 for those of you that have it on hand. Needless to say, it is an impressive event. As big as Titans are, the vessels that carry them through space and those that then carry them to the planet's surface must be proportionally gargantuan.

happy reading!

This PDF explains in more detail how Titans are brought in. Atleast the Imperial ships that do the job: http://us.games-workshop.com/download/download.htm?/games/bfg/downloads/assets/Merchantmen.pdf
You can get an idea of what the ships look like as well.

"Super heavy transports are used to support
large fleet actions, such as planetary assaults.
Each is capable of carrying tens of thousands of
men and thousands of vehicles. They are also
used by Adeptus Mechanicus Titan Legions for
moving their huge war machines or enough
munitions to supply an entire army."

The actual model has a series of "stalls" or cells. We figure the actual titans ride inside these cells. The Transport makes a landing and the titans just walk right out of these sells. They can also jump out using thrusters for more rapid and precise deployment. Understand that these ships are BIG, almost the size of a full cruiser (roughly 3km long).

Giant ships. End Of Story. O and the only reason teleporting termies is dangerous is because they are going straight into battle if you had a station set up and some homing beacons i would think it would be rather simple(in a loose term) to transport a titan. Although battle is to quick for them to be able to do this.

so what do you think would be most reasonable in a epic DOW mod?

For small skirmishs they obviously wouldn't be teleported in. If you had to have a titan it would surely have to be nearby the battle, and so just walk in from an edge.

Righ, yea, sorry, I was thinking of something else. In the Titan comics it implies that they're carried on massive ships.

If you read Storm Of Iron they are brought down in these massive transport vessels that are big enough to hold 2 titans and the entire reminents of the Iron Warrior Legion plus millions of slaves and chaos cultists.

I think there was a short story a while back, in an anthology... Into the Maelstrom, if I recall correctly...which describes Imperial Titans being deployed to a planet using huge drop pods.

If any titans are old/advanced enough and have access to vessels old/advanced enough to teleport they are probably in the most secret legion the Psi titan one.

In the Horus Heresy one heretic Titan Legion is destroyed in their ships before being able to unload safely.

I believe the Ultramarines were responsible for that............or if i'm wrong :bricks:

Think I read somewhere that the Ultramarines weren;t at the finao battle for the Palace or even on Earth for that matter. They were held up somewhere else and it was the Blood Angels, Imperial Fists and someone else (I can't remember which one) that was defending the Palace. Chapters like the fdark Angels, Space Wolves, Ultramarines were still fighting other forces while trying to get back to Earth. If I remember rightly.
So what I'm saying in a rather round about way is: I don't think it was the Ultramarines that destroyed the traitor titan legion within their ships.
Obilgitory, 'get out clause' I might be though though =]

wernt it the white scares

The Collector

I believe it was the Warp Dogs legion?

It any case, I believe it was planetary defenses destroying their transport, rather then any legion in particular.

Ultramarines were too far away from the action by the time of the battle at the Emperor's Palace: they also defeated Alpha Legion and killed Alpharius at this time. Space Wolves and Dark Angels were inbound. Imperial Fists, Blood Angels and White Scars were on the ground defending the Palace with IG and Titan support. Iron Warriors, World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Thousand Sons attacking. Dunno if Word Bearers and Night Lords were present. If so, the defenders were outnumbered 6:3 rather then 4:3. I think I'm short a few legions for the Defenders...

Ah Collector you've hit the nail on the Head as it were. I'm sure it was the Warp Dogs that got nuked in their landing ships.

DF, now you mention it being the White Scars, its was. They were the Legion who tried to retake that other SpacePort. Although can't remember if they succeeded.
The attacker:defender ratios of 6/4:3 seem about right to me though. This was the ultimate last stand. Only a 'handful' of defenders (still in the region of a milion of so =o ) facing a combined force of several million.

DarthFelth
14th Apr 04, 6:57 AM
i meant White Scars being the other Chaptor defending the Palace :p and i think the ratio was aot higher than that, i do remeber reading a little battle between a Bloodthirster and Sanguinus and him snapping the things back of his knee or something. On anouther note, the who, warp dogs.. i remeber that the salamanders got sho up badly, never even heard of the warp dogs, then again i didnt really get into 40k till just after rouge trader ;)

Uzgah

Warp Dogs, traitor titan legion.
I never thought the Salamanders were at the battle for the palace... then again I could be way off in that thought.
But I'm quite ceratin we've managed to get down to the 3 Space Marine legions dfending the palace: Blood Angels, Imperial Fists and the White Scars.
During the war(!!, it was more than one battle lets remember) the White scars used lightning raids to disrupt the traitors supplies coming from one of the two spaceports the traitors held. I think they did manage to capture it at one point but were then beaten back again. Which is what I was referring to mate.

I think white scars one of the coolest legions of all, dont u agrea??

And whas it not a bunch of imperial chickens (fists, but they are faar to yellow:) )

DarthFelth
14th Apr 04, 10:21 AM
The Salamanders wernt, that were on of the legions that got given beats by the Horus when they first discovered he went traitor (on of the Legions that was ambushed on landing at the begining)

i actualy thought the Warp dogs were a Marine Legion for some reason, ahh well
