View Full Version : Take it like NFS: Underground?

in NFS:U you go into Underground mode, you gain more and better cars and parts, and then you can use them online.
I was wondering, i think it would be great to have to use the single player game to gain "Points" that you could spend on your online army.
The army could change, but your point limit stays the same until you get more points. Now this doesnt mean therell be games where noobs will have tiny armies versus ginourmous ones. What i was thinking is that the more points you have, the higher ranking games you can go into, and experience truly huge firefights. While new players would have to step into small battles to get more experience, then when they are good and ready can play with the big boys.
Also, if this game doesnt have a map editor like Starcrafts, where we can set down units in formation already, im gonna be pissed lol.
Also, if you have played the TOTAL WAR series, youw ill know they have a "custom battles" game type, set a point limit, pick your guys, and play the battle.
THIS WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY FRICKEN MIND BLOWINGLY PERFECT for DoW.

Nice ideas! I hope Relic at least considers adding these into the game.

I think a map/mission editor editor is a "must include" in my opinion. The points system for online play is innovative(ish) but i dont think relic is basing online army size around buying units with points. I think its just going to be like most other RTS games were u start and your army size is determined by that races unit cap and the make up of your army is determined by your own recruitment decisions.
I would like to see some modding tools made available since doing this would allow fans to add into the game the things that relic didnt have time/money etc to include such as other races, cults, chapters etc etc

An editor would be excellent. Would allow the comunity to make the squillion different variations of armies that are out there which Relic quite possibly can't divert the resources to to make.

id love the custom battles or map editor so i can put my own real life army into the game, dunno if it would fit though.

A map editor is a MUST if a game is supposed to stay alive. I REALLY hope there is one included. Think of all the cool custom maps and campaigns the community would make, just like with other games like Starcraft and Warcraft :)

Indeed, a reasonably detailed mission editor would b nice to, people could create entire campaigns based on famous battles from the 40K universe then, Horus Heresy anyone?

Lets make it clear: a great wh40k game without a decent editor is heresy, and means that the Ordo Malleus will declare a Crusade agains the Relic HQ, which would involve a few space marine chapters ( Grey Knights included) and a few millions of guardsmen.
+++ May the Emperor protect them +++
But I do not fear, because the guys at Relic are true and devout followers of the Emperor. I mean: the support they give to the community is EXCELLENT.
Really. Just look at the Relic Developers Network site and the various tools they provided with their games. Can't be better. so I think there will be an editor.

I agree fully roodie. Their support of their games makes me want to buy all of them, especially Impossible Creatures as it does not reward micromanagement but strategy (YAY!) and I am extremely curious to see its engine, which has been heavily modified for DoW.
Relic RULES ! :D

That's the kind of approach me and my dev team are taking on an rts that we're working on (only it will be modern swat stuff, should be pretty cool!) Obviously, I like the idea!
While we're on the mission/unit editors, I think people should be allowed to use different datafiles containing varied army lists with different units. This would mean that you could go onto a huge fansite (which we all know will eventually develop) and download their Black Templar file or their Thousand Sons file and play with that. And then to prevent people from tampering with those files, simply make each player approve the custom lists before they agree to play with someone else. Perhaps just hash the overall data into a formulated piece of data, and then add that particular army list to an "approved list" for your account. Put more simply, each user account would have a list of codes, each code standing for an overall army list with custom stats and such, that are pre-approved and won't need to be ok'ed each time to be played with. This means users don't have to approve their opponent's army's units EVERY game, just for new/custom lists.
Of course, I don't expect relic to do this, I'm just hypothesizing how I would do it were we to implement what we're dreaming about. :)

Na...
They will more likely allow for custon gfx/colours, and weap configs/army configs... but any special rules teams would need to be modded in.

I like this idea. Aside from giving people another reason to play through the storyline, it would also allow the inclusion of unlockable bonuses akain to those found in Rare's GoldenEye... for instance, finishing a mission or killing X of a particular enemy tyep within a particular timeframe, or completing the mission with causalities below a specified rate.
The way I read this theory, online games would not only be tiered, but balanced in a fashion: a particular server might in addition to having an 'entry requisite' of X points, specify an allowable range of army sizes...

I just dont want the game turning into all these dumb turret games like SC and WC. But having a character editor would be nice so we could make special chars well the skins atleast and play them online in normal battles.

Sweet idea SoheilsX. I get what you mean from having NFS. Unlocking unit types etc would be sweet.
Tough break though your not allowed to post in your own thread.
