Scan for Virii and make sure that the CD is not damaged in any way.

I've been messing around with it and I have reinstalled it yet again. I have found that without the patch it works but when I install the patch it doesn't work. I thought the patch was there to fix things not destroy them.

ok correction now it doesn't work period. patch or no patch. so whatever it is its progressing. .. for it that is not for me...
I scanned for viruses and came up empty. and I tried to do different command lines ,but it isn't under properties for some reason. I hope it dosen't take cataclysm from me too.

Hmmmm what kind of CD Rom drive are you using? Have you tried adding /cdpath X: (where X: is the drive letter of your CD Rom) to the shortcut's properties?

I'm using a sony cd-rw 24x speed and yes i've tried the /cdpath D: thing but it still gives me that same message. I'm starting to think its hopeless.

I suggest you contact Sierra and see if they have any ideas, or at least check the sierra troubleshooting site. Sounds like your CD is indeed faulty.

ill do that uber thanks. If new windows updates become available im automatically notified. But what I don't understand is if its faulty then why do I have no problem installing it.

The application is doing some checking on your CD Rom to make sure it's legit. It could be that someother software is interfering with the identification of the CD.

well sorry for digging up an old thread but. I just recently installed Homeworld on my new system. And i get the Invalid Homeworld cd error also.
I been working on this problem forever. the cd installs but it wont run from the .exe or from the shortcut(required so opengl works)
I was just wondering if anyone found a fix. Cuz this is crappy :\

Try right clicking on the HW Shortcut and changing the compatibility mode to Windows NT 4.0 SP5.
