k,
I love doing grav well strategies on Subj, but i'm not very good at it yet, so...please help :) ?
I wrote this out a while ago to help some newer (newer than me) players out with the strat so let me know what i have wrong and what i got right

Start by researching all 4 on cap drive
build atleast 35 scouts, with this start I build more
build 2 more collectors, for a total of 4
when cap drive is done, put 3 researchers on Grav Well and one on cap chassis
build 2 controllers and 3 supports.
You definitely want more than 3 supports once your collectors get to the center and start earning their keep, but until then save money for the gravs and the assaults.
OK, right now your gravs and your cap chassis are researching. These things take a really long time. You have to be a good scout pilot, because they are the only thing keeping your opponent busy. I fly them past the middle pocket, to his side, put them on evasive and hit the Z button alot. This usually makes them last long enough to get your grav down to the harvesters to protect them and makes your opponent move away from the middle and close to his MS. note: if he has defenders your scouts won't last very long :(
When the grav research finishes build 4 of them. You might need more but you'll definitely need at least three. Put those three researchers on to Cap Chassis.
Your scouts won't last long enough to keep you totally safe but that's what the supports are for, healing what ever he gets a couple shots into.
Assault frigates come out soon after gravs, you want ATLEAST two right away, but having money for gravs is more important then having 3 assaults, so figure out what you need to do there
From here research what you want, DFFs are a good idea but your opponent will already be going for frigates and might have ions soon, but if you're doing things right, he shouldn't get more than 2 assaults out before he goes broke. Salvagers are a good idea and don't take too much time to research. Whatever...
Now, when you have your grav out there and 2 assualts or so, remember that your supports have guns too. Shoot his corvs with everything you can spare. It's a really good idea to kami a collector into his corvettes. You are going 4/2 and can spare a collector for a minute(not 2 minutes, just 1 minute) watch that collector though because it will be damaged from ramming things so make sure you heal it. His corvettes will be frozen in place right? Therefore his supports will be trying to heal them where they are. This is one of the best opportunities to ram your research ship into his support frigs and take some of them out.
You also have 2 controllers, watch for a chance to ram his collectors as they sit in line waiting to dock with his controller. When they are stationary, they are an easy target for a ramming controller.
The biggest enemy for a grav well is a kami-collector. If you're sharp enough (which I am not) this is totally avoidable. When it's coming at you, put your supports on the grav to heal it, when the collector gets a little closer move the grav well in the direction that the collector is moving, away from the collector. If you move the grav away from the collector, problem solved. He's just wasting collecting time. If the collector does catch the grav, but the grav is moving, then it will just bump the grav and your supports will heal it, if it gets healed, let the collector go ahead and kami the grav. The grav will live, the collector will die.
Even if the collector pops the grav on it's first try, just get another one out there. Your job just got easier, 1 collector down. If he only went 3/1 and he kami's 2 then that only leaves one more for him to harvest with.
As for which race to use...well...
taiidan has the DFF, also, the taiidan motherships has it's cap ships fall out of the bottom of it. You can use them as soon as they are built, that's a very big advantage over the kushan
The kushans have the self-healing support frigate which is a really nice thing to have when you're only using three supports in the beginning. However, with kushan, you've gotta wait for that stupid door to open up, then have the grav "role" away from the door, and then you still can't use the freakin thing untill the door starts to close again =|, that's a long time before you actually get to turn the grav on and gives your opponent a bit of time to blow it up before you turn it on. I think that the self-healing supports make it worth using kushan tho.
k...
um...
that sound right..?

oh yeaaaahhhhh! :D

I was playing someone and I was swarming. The guy made a grav and I got it into the red before it could even be activated. Seconds after it was activated... it was dead :D

Even tho swarming may not be as effective as other strats like changeup, its hella fun :D

swarming is one of the hardest strats to learn how to do it. The second you learn the build you become an expert newbie killer... but in order to win a ladder game using a swarm strat you better be prepared to practice your butt off... so many split-second decisions can win or lose the game for you, it takes a lot of time to learn it properly. IMO you should never say "I hate swarm", instead of that you should say "I love gravs" :)

What's the best way to do a grav well strategy?
with corvs first then to grav?
DFF to grav?
or straight to grav with no corvs, just scouts?

only light corvs could get eaten really quickly by a nice swarm before the grav could have a chance to come out... the defence field can only protect a small group, if you're guarding your supports you could lose your collectors or if your guarding your AFs you could lose your supports or controller... a straight grav strat has so little power in it in the begining and an early rush by your opponent could be really devistating to your resource op.
