Hey all,
It finally looks like the end is near for interplay. The once proud developer/publisher of classics such as FS2 and the fallout series has been in decline for a awhile now, but it now appears to be homeless due to lack of payment of rent.
Officially the company is still going but without a place to work from its unlikely to last much longer.
fallout 3 (which interplay they said they would publish) now looks to be more or less dead, that is of if some other company doesnt buy the license.

We can blame Herve and Eric Caen for this mess, interplay used to be one of my favourite publishers.
According to a source of ours all the employees was contacted by the IT director at IPLY today and asked to pick up their personal effects.
The Property management company is shutting the doors effective 5pm for lack of payment..
So Basicly IPLY doesn't have a home now or is shutting down for good!?
Update: We've got more on this whole tale, it seems that Human Resources told the employees to file for unemployment, Herve and Eric are no where to be found.....
All employees are in the progress of gathering their belongings, since the offices are being closed at 5pm. They were also told that they would be advised in the "future" what was being done......
*sigh*

Interplay has been pretty much dead for years now. Good riddance. They deserve it.
And I'm sure Herve and Eric skipped out with the last of Interplays money a loooong time ago. They're probably in the Bahamas right now drinking oddly colored drinks with fruity little parasols in them.

Black Isle did and still does (The former members of Black Isle at any rate) have an interest in doing Fallout 3, but they never had the money to pry the liscense out of Interplays cold greedy fingers. But now that Interplay might be going down.... who knows? maybe the liscense will go up for auction or something. I'd say that if Interplay dies, your chances of seeing Fallout3 (ar a similar game) greatly improve. Would it be any good? who knows... I have no idea how much of it Black Isle actually finished before they got canned.

Wow. This really sucks. Naturally, my hopes are out there for the unemployed. Hearing an announcement like that for an IP employee would come close to stopping a heart.

I'm sure that the more saavy Interplay employees have had their updated resume's on monster.com for at least a couple years now...

Too bad about InterPlay, that's no way for the company that gave Wasteland to go out. All praise the mis-management god.

I have never understood how they could put out so many quality titles but always be in the red. Any Relic devs got an opinion or hear anything on this?

Not an opinion on Interplay's financial mismanagement, but I know the feeling the IP employees have: I worked for a games company about three years ago, and it was a normal day, just an average tuesday in fact, and everyone turned up to work, as per usual ... none of the managers were about, but we could see them all sitting in a meeting ... nothing particularly odd about that .... until one of the guys in the office yells out "Oh shit." So we wander over to find out what's up ... and there it is, on Yahoo News. Our Company closing down. About 15 minutes later the managers came out and admitted it. A week later the office closed its doors.

Serves them right... Right after they canned Black Isle Studios, I wanted them to rot in hell. I honestly think that three legged deaf blind donkey could have made better desisions running Interplay than those guys.

Someone on fatbabies was saying Black Isle had a bunch of titles that didn't make any dinara for them. I found that kind of surprising. Can't help but wonder if somebody wasn't pocketing a lot of proceeds at that company sometimes.
Seems thers no money in good games anymore...
You hear that Relic? Go push out some more generic junk that my obsesive brothers, and all the other kids will impuse buy... then you make money.
Don't whatever you do, make an INTELLIGENT game, because the audience is brain dead...
(Sarcastic by the way...)

I've got a better idea. Drop the video game thing altogether, get the Garfield license, and get into the movie business!
Ha ha.. Just kidding. What!?
Oh no. Dear god. No.

So true, anyways, I am said to see it go even though some people hate it. Said to see this result from the management.

The average interplay employee would have had to be blind to not have seen this coming from a mile away. Even I knew they werent going to make it after they announced that they were going console only. Especially with their long time track record of forcing unfinished products out the door... You see, that might fly with PC games for the most part, but with console titles it's instant death. I knew they wouldnt learn, and heres the proof.
