View Full Version : Post your army list!

I was just curious to see what type of army people on this forum played. So I thought it would be interesting if everyone posted the army you use MOST. Remember NOT to give specific values for upgrades and such because we don't want GW legal on our backs! I'll post my list later when I have more time on my hands.

World Eaters, Salamanders, orks.

After seeing 4th ed rules my sallies are looking rather good. mmmmm multi-meltas :rip:

Venerable Dreadnought w/ flamer, Space Wolf Lord(w/ meltabombs), two squads of Grey Hunters w/ power weapons in Rhinos(and two meltaguns), two squads of Long Fang and/or a Vindicator for heavy support, three Landspeeders in a squad for fast attack, and scouts w/ power weapons and melta for crossfire. Wolf Guard as necessary with more power weapons. 1500 pts.

It works out remarkably well. I end up with a very powerful shooty army, with a nasty counter-charge brim-full of powered weapons. Being SW, I also tend to go first, so when melee begins, counter-charge and fun with power weapons! All the meltas also ruin enemy vehicles, and I've had good luck fighting both hand-to-hand armies, by using the counter-charge, as well as shooty armies like the Tau simply by using my speed against them.

As for the scouts...it doesn't matter if you have the railgun, if I can deep-strike behind you, and rip it off your Battlesuit. And as I expected, they took full advantage of crossfires but even more impressively, I've seen them do invaluable damage against enemy troops in melee.

Chaos Lord with Mark of Slaanesh, Termi Armour, Dark Blade, Sonic Blaster, Doom Siren, Combat Drugs, Aura of Aquiescence, Daemonic Strength, Daemonic Resilience and Furious Charge.

Retinue: 4 Chosen Terminators with Mark of Slaanesh, 1 Chainfist, 3 Power Weapons, 4 Sonic Blasters and Furious Charge. (Free Icon)

6 Chaos Marines with Mark of Slaanesh, 4 Sonic Blasters, 1 Blastmaster and Aspiring Champion with Sonic Blaster. (Free Icon)

6 Chaos Marines with Mark of Slaanes, Close Combat Weapon and Bolt Pistol, 2 Doom Sirens and Aspiring Champion with Bolt Pistol and Power Fist. All with Frag Grenades and Furious Charge. (Free Icon)

3x 6 Daemonettes

Land Raider with Warp Amp, Smoke Launchers, Extra Armour and Blasphemous Rune. (Nothing quite like -4 Ld on a Tankshock)

6 Chaos Havocs with Mark of Slaanesh, 1 Sonic Blaster, 4 Blastmasters and Aspiring Champion with Sonic Blaster. All with Tank Hunter.

That's my 1500 points Emperor's Children Army. It's extremely shooty as you can see, I get 15! Bolter equivalent shots from my Chaos Lord and Retinue alone. And I've seen my Chaos Lord tear tanks apart on the charge. With the right combo of combat drugs he is a strength 9 monster with 6 attacks on the charge. Very few tanks survive his attention for long.
The daemonettes are very lethal as well, 6 of the will tear a dreadnought a few holes in seconds.
The Havocs are a nightmare for anything not wearing power armour as they unleash 4 strength 8 AP 4 blastmarkers every turn, or they use them to reduce tanks to rubble thanks to the tankhunter skill.

Double Post

I don't have an army right now but I'm thinking about starting a Witch Hunter or Daemon Hunter one. Can you guys tell me what are their pros and cons?

Witch Hunters: Great at psychological warfare, they have many items that affect the Ld of the enemy. And the SoBs are great units. If you can always take arco-flagellants and penitent engines, they are incredible killing machines, although a bit fragile. A well balanced army, not as tough as Space Marines but almost equal in firepower and armour.

Daemon Hunters: Psyker and Daemon killers, Grey knights eat points but they can outfight and outshoot a lot of armies. The inquisitors are a lethal force if equiped properly. Invulnerable saves mean very little against an army that carries Psycannon and Psycannon bolt equiped units.
Biggest downside: you will not field many models if you use Grey Knights. Even a basic Grey Knight costs 25 points.

been away from game for a while, but am starting to compile my fluff for my new army i'm going to collect.

they are the iron guard traitor legion, rejoining their true brothers (and founding chapter) the iron warriors after the 13th crusade. persuaded by perturabo(sp) after their home world was beseiged by himself an a large detament of iron warriors.

it will inc:

an ironsmith with retinue of corrupt servitors and veterans

a number of veteran marines,
noise marines (slannesh had a small influence on them too)
company of corrupted mordian iron guard
converted iron guard marines (using sm &csm minitures to represent their recent LIBERATION form the impirium)
possesed marines
oblitorators (have to read the new csm codex to see how many i can feild)
havocs
a corrupted bassalisk
chaos dreadnaughts (iron warriors fomr forge world)

Thats a sample list, i dont have a calculater but that looks like 1,500 pts.

It really depends on the army i'm facing though, sometimes i'll customize my army to beat the other *powergaming but i dun care* or in tournaments it'll take me a few days to come up with an ideal destroyer list.

I also play Biel Tann Eldar and Space wolves

I have 2,500 pts of eldar *sold 500 pts*

Next army will most likely be either Ork, IG, or Tau in that order

1 x HQ Squad, w/ Force Commander, Chaplain, Librarian, Techmarine, Apothecary, 5 Veteran SM. Still need a standard bearer.

2 x Tactical SM Squads. 1 squad is specific Dark Angels squad, with Vet. Sergeant w/ plasma pistol and plasma cannon gunner. 1 squad is from generic SM boxed set, missile launcher and flamer.

1 x Devastator SM Squad. The usual assortment, 1 x Plasma Cannon, 1 x Missile launcher, 1 x Heavy Bolter, 1 x Lascannon. 4 normal SMs. I have 3 extra PC gunners to swap out w/ squaddies so I can field a squad with 4 plasma cannons. Great for making sure that close combat armies never get close.

1 x Assault SM Squad. Meltabombs.

1 x SM Scout squad, 5 normal scouts w/ bolt pistol and CC, 2 with sniper rifles.

2 x Rhinos, 1 x Razorback w/ heavy bolters. Squad transports.

1 x Predator Annihilator w/ twinlinker lascannons and heavy bolters in the sponsons.

3 x Ravenwing Land Speeders, 1 each Landspeeder, Tornado (assault cannon + multimelta), Typhoon.

1 x Dreadnaught w/ assault cannon and heavy flamer.

1 x Terminator squad w/ 5 termies. Heavy flamer.

Depending on grenade options and wargear, list comes out to just over 2500 points.

I'm now starting an Imperial Guard army (180th Cadian Regiment) but I've only collected two squads of shock troops so far and still haven't finished painting the first squad.

I actually have three armies, that can actually be fielded in a three way battle. They are:

My Space Wolves
Ragnar Blackmane
Wolf Guard Battle Leader
Venerable Dreadnought
7 Wolf Guard, 4 of them in Termie armor
2 Grey Hunter packs, one mounted in rhino
1 blood claw pack
1 long fang pack
1 scout squad
1 land raider

My Dark Angels
1 interrogator chaplain
1 librarian
5 man DeathWing Squad
10 man tactical squad
6 man tactical squad
5 man tactical squad
5 man devestator squad
land speeder

My Chaos army
1 jugger riding loonie
1 kharn the betrayer
1 abaddon the despoiler
1 ahriman
3x 10 man berserker squad
1 5 man termie squad
1 havoc squad
1 5 man squad of plague marines

but what i really want for my chaos army, is if it is still legal, have the jugger riding loonie with the mark of khorne, and have 6 squads of 20 berserkers, plus 2 squads of 10 berserkers mounted in rhinos. I think if you have a lord with the mark of khorne, then berserkers are treated as troops choices, right?

Orks - Goff Army

Warboss - Mega Armour (powerklaw and shoota built in), cybork body
7 Nobz - Mega Armour, cybork body
1 Mekboy - 'eavy armour, custom force field, choppa
1 Mekboy - 'eavy armour, custom mega blasta, choppa
All in Wartrukk - rokkit laucha, grot riggers, 5 pt armour, red paint job

3 Wartraks/Warbuggies - twin-linked Rokkit Launcha's, 5pt armour, grot riggers

2 mobz of skarboyz - 19 boyz and a Nob in each. Nobz have slugga, choppa, 'eavy armour, bionic bonce, big horns/iron gob for free, cybork body, tankbusta bombs. Oh and two boyz in each mob have burna's.

3 Killa Kanz - rokkit launcha's, 5 pt armour, powerklaws

1500 pts, give or take a few points

Simple army but VERY effective. The best part is the custom force field makes all hits on vehicles within 6 inches count as being hulled down (glancing shots at best). I keep my wartrakks surrounding my wartrukk to soak up all the hits and launch the trukk full of HQ death at whatever I want to die. Of course, everything else in the army can kill things just fine too. I also have a Deathguard army (Nurgle) that's undefeated (5-0) but I'm still fleshing it out.

Wraithguard are also mega sweet, with their Wraithcannons. AP1, Wounds on 4+, instant death on 6. When attacking vehicles, 4 is a Glancing, 5-6 is a Penetrating. My brother hates them. Bad thing is, if my Warlock dies, then they have to roll for Wraithsight, and on a roll of 1, they can't do anything.

Epic 40k is a different game from normal TT. It's still a miniatures wargame, but the scale of the models is much smaller than 40k, allowing you to field much larger armies, including things like lots of aircraft, and Titans/ Gargants. The rules are considerably different (and more complex).

Epic has been around for a while, but the Epic rules were recently re-released in a new edition, Epic 40k: Armageddon, with new models.

mpjesse363
29th Jun 04, 9:03 AM
forge world has released air support units in 40k scale, but you have to get opponents permission and be willing to shell out the bucks for resin minis check there web site they also have rules in pdf format for anyone to use for there minis.

of course its not rtt legal but they are fun sometimes

FeloniousPunk
29th Jun 04, 9:10 AM
The cheapest aircraft for normal 40k come in at over $75 US, and the Thunderhawk's almost $500 (ditto Tau Orca). I don't expect to see them anytime soon in my neck of the woods. ;)

I do have a Whirlwind Hyperion on order, though - just in case.

Currently I have three armies. The first is a Grey knights force pretty much centered my inquisitor and his retinue, along with some basic grey knights and some terminators. I sometimes add in another terminator ofrce as a retinue fora greay knight hero so I can field my Grey knight Dreadnought (I bought the thing off forgeworld, took forever to get here, I will use it)

The other is a space marines army which is pretty vanilla, except that I use a chapter noone has ever heard of (SoulDrinkers) and then there's my chaos army that ha it's own homegrown backstory. They all look like hell too because I can't paint (exception the dreads).

Strybjorn
29th Jun 04, 10:23 PM

Woohoo somebodys heard of them. Yeah that would be them, there's actually a second novel called "The Bleeding Chalice" which I actually like better than "SoulDrinker", but that might just be me. I've been considering trying to do a sarpedon model for my army, but I don't really know what i could use for the legs, plus I don't know if I want to put that much work into him (A heads up sarpedon is the chapter master of the SoulDrinkers, his lower body has mutated and he now has 8 legs, 7 spider like and one bionic, he's also an insanly powerful psyker).

Maybe take the legs from a Fantasy Wolf Spider as his legs, then cut one off and put a bionic one on from an Iron Warrior. Just an idea. :werd:

PS-One thing I forgot to post about my space wolves army, does anyone think that a wolf guard termie with an assault cannon and a single lightning claw a little unreal or unfair, or illegal?

I play Epic. Fanatically. With the new rules, many of my models became obsolete :/
As a sample, my standard Legio Invicta fielding:

Supreme Commander commanding Tactical Detachment. Transports : Rhinos (400 pts.)
Librarian commanding Devastator Detachment with Dreadnought. Transports: Rhinos (350 pts.)
Chaplain commanding Assault Detachment (225 pts.)
2 Thunderhawk Gunships (200 pts. each)
Bike Detachment (200 pts.)
Land Speeder Detachment (200 pts.)
Terminator Detachment. Transports: Land Raiders (725 pts.)
Land Raider Detachment (400 pts.)
Predator Detachment (300 pts.)
Warlord Titan (850 pts.)

4000 pts. Total :)

I own the following Necron models and switch my army around constantly -

Necron Lord (lmtd edition)

5 Immortals

11 scarab swarms

44 warriors

6 destroyers

2 wraiths

2 tomb spyders

Generally, I take a large number of warriors, a few swarms, a few of my destroyers and the lord (with his "bodyguard" of immortals).

Currently, they're 10-2. Haven't phased out once. :)

Thanks. My Tyrant is heavily converted to fit his name but I cant say its been easy. Have a scar to prove it :P

But I did think of a cheap tactic to use with 4th edition but I dunno if its legal or not since 4th ed isnt out yet. Well know how in 4th you have to pass a LD test to shoot at something besides the closest thing? Well litter the battle field with spore mines the enemy will be very pissed having to take so many LD tests just to shoot at something besides the mines. I'm not going to use that tactic but if thats legal... I dont think there will be any more seeding swarms

i think it is simply becasue they are such a difficult force to use, and you really do need a lot of tactical skill to use them to full effect.

i guess people just cant be bothered to use their brains :P

i started playing them when the 3rd ed rules came out, but never got the hang of them.

archon god
1st Jul 04, 9:57 AM
well it is true they are the hardest army to win with, and i like to report that i have almost a 75% winning record with them and the only people i face are the hardest armys for the de to win against tau ig and now i have an ork force in my face. but yes no offence to anybody, but you have to be a tactical mastermind to win even a few battles and most people just cant take it they start the dark eldar and they just cant do it. the army confuses the hell out of its commander gives them head aches and leaves them wondering how did i just lose 200pts in one turn. but with the dark eldar you have to learn how to sacrifice units and plan for failed attacks almost 3 turns in advance. they are a very powerful force being able to use a very powerful short range fire system and massed rounds put into the enemy but then again they can be some of the hardest untis to kill in hand to hand, you just have to get them there without dieing.

I'm thinking a lot of people don't play Dark Eldar, not because it requires tactical genius in excess of most players, but for the same reason why I would never consider playing DE:

They look almost laughably ridiculous. I don't care what abilities a 40k army has, if they look like a bunch of prancing queens on the tabletop, there's no way I'll play them. I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment.

i see where your coming from. that is if the army was a wycht cult but if you had an army of incubi, raiders ,ravangers and grotest it would be the sweetest looking army in all of 40k history. and i do think that the regular warrior look bada$$ if i dont say so myself oh yeah and you would have to have a talos they are the ultimate unit in the 40k universe

Master Chief
1st Jul 04, 11:08 AM
I played a 2v1 against a DE army. It was me as Eldar and my brother as SM. Together we had 3000 points approximately, and DE had 2500 maybe. DE almost won. They're really good, you just have to know how to use them. You have the Gargoyles with the Dark Lances provide cover fire for the other troops. Put lots of troops in those hover thingies (Raiders?) and rush with them. Sure, you might lose one, but the others will deposit 20+ troops. Also, combat drugs are good for the DE, but only under the right circumstance. That's a good strategy for DE. I'm such a genius.

yes they are the best army to be because if you do it right you will run circles around anyone. but to perfect the dark eldar takes like i said earlyer a tacticle mastermind. but if you have the right units and the tactis to go along with it you will crush any opposition. i myself have had wonderful sucsses with them so far and the only armys i havent faced are deamon hunters, witch hunters, and another dark eldar force. but other then that i massacure sm, csm, ig, ork, tyranids, and the only race that gives me problems on a regular basis is necrons

Im playing with this army and im serious, it packs crap loads of firepower. 8 seeker missiles means that even my smaller fire teams pack a punch capable of taking out tanks or anything my crisis teams cant. The only problem i lack that is quite obvious is close combat. i took the liberty of arming my firewarrior teams with photon grenades so they might be able to surivive 1 assault. ive only lost one game since playing with this army. Space marines are hard shit!

Can't really say what's my most common army. What I have is a massive army which i pick from and i'm sure when listing it i'd forget some.

It has however about 110 infantry, 3 bikes and 1 attack bike, 2 land speeders, 2 dreadnoughts, predator annihilator, Land Raider (standard) and a Rhino, all vehicles with pintle bolters, smoke grenades and crack missles. Although it's Dark Angels I have a good mix of shootey and assault. 4000 points or so i'd guess.

Are your guys mutated? From their names it doesnt sound like it.

Well I just found out the problem though the numbers were misaligned so I thought things like you having the warriors having 5 wounds when in reality you had it right and the 5 was for inititive.

I got into 40K about 3 years ago but I ended up putting it to rest for a while, about a year ago I got back into it again and started up my BT army again. I've made many revisions to my list but the one I currently have has been doing me good so far. Deep Striking in those Terminators can do some real damage sometimes. ;) (Hopefully soon enough I will get a LRC for those Termies)

I think I may have put in a bit much for my HQ, but so far I have not seen many problems yet.

As for Heavy Support, getting that LRC should be great, but I find the Predator and the Vindicator to make a solid Heavy Support team.
