What weapon in 40k you think is the best?
I'll go for Broadside's Railgun.
Range 72"
Str 10
AP 1
Heavy 1
(but remember,it's twin-linked!)
NjalStormcall
15th Jun 04, 11:46 PM
Gauss Blasters.
Assault 2, S5 weapons kick ass. Enough Immortals and you'll just toss all the die you need to even kill vehicles that get in your way.

i like power fists :D

For hand weapons it's definatly the plasma rifle. As for vehicle weapons... the Baneblade Battlecannon ain't too shabby.

16th Jun 04, 1:33 AM
For heavy weapons, I'd go for the Hammerhead railgun. Great as anti-tanks weapon, and very good as anti-infantry with it's secondary ammo.
normal weapon: Pulse rifle.
hand-to-hand weapon: Abbadon's blade?
Anthonace

i don't think that abbadons blade is very fair... hit and you die!

Best Vehicle Weapon:
Tau Hammerhead Railgun. Those 72" Strength 10 AP 1 Shells are incredibly good, and the Strength 6 AP 4 Ordinance Blast isn't bad either.
Best Infantry Weapon:
Sonic Blaster: 24" Strength 4 AP 5 doesn't sound great, but having 2 Assault or 3 Heavy shots is a great way to mess with an opponents mind.
Best Infantry Heavy Weapon:
Bright Lance: 36" Strength 8 AP 2 Assault 1 is amazing, but counting any armour over 12 as 12 is even better.
Best Close Combat Weapon:
Dark Blade: On a Chaos Lord there are few things scarrier than 5 strength 6 attacks on the charge. (or 5 strength 8 attacks in case of my lord)
All at initiative 5 and ignoring armour saves. :wow:

For cc weapon,I'll go for Dawn Blade.
But Chaos Spawn's cc skill make me mad: D6 attacks;P
:hmm:

Best ranged weapon has to be the Shrieker Cannon, it's just so cool!! (particularly when you notice who's carrying it LOL).
Best CC weapon is either the Axe of Khorne or the honor blade (only on coolness grounds but I don't give a toss).

16th Jun 04, 6:34 AM
Best CC: Nemesis force weapon in the hand of a Gray knight Grand Master :flamer:
Best shooty: Exitus Sniper Rifle...Can kill ANYTHING!!!! (and I mean anything, I've killed a Land Raider with this rifle) :D

i have to agree with railguns, both on broadsides and on the hammer head
basic waepon has to be the gause flayer (roll a 6 to hit and u get an automatic glancing hit!)
special weapon is the plasma rifle (plasma gun without the over heat)
CC weapon has to be the warsythe of the necrons, or the staff of light)
Pyro404
16th Jun 04, 6:56 AM
space marine flamer :flamer: .....long and short of it :D

Heavy weapon: Star Cannon:
Move and fiire 36 range ap 2 str 6
CC: Nemisis force weapon
Beats the chaos Weapons because they are not what is strong its the upgrades on the Characters. Teh nemisis is awsome even on puds.
Anti-vehicle: broadside railcannon
Already described.
Basic weapon: Pulse rifle
str 5 30 range ap 5
Mega-weapon:
who cares they all kill everything.
Assault Weapon: Storm Bolter
Special Weapon: Tau Plasma Rifle
Doesn't overheat
All Around: Plasma Cannon
This Kills everything. It wounds most models on a 2+, ignores their armor, at 36 inches, kills all vehicles besides landraiders and monoliths, AND The Model That Fires It As Well.

i'm a big fan of the lance strike. str. 10 ap 1 ordnance blast? as long as you plan it right it'll nail your enemies, and even if it doesn't, its good for area denial. it should be a titan killer, IMHO, it IS a weapon designed to kill other starships, after all.....
i'll have to go with the nemesis force halberd as well for CC. that thing is super super badass.

hey guys, just be careful, I know GW doesn't usually much like their rules posted on public boards (not certain that they allow this on their own discussion boards either).
Personally, Gauss Flayer... 'cause there's nothing you can't do with them.

Best infantry weapon? Lasgun, cos when you are at a tourny and you say you ahve guard, you opponent always goes 'Ha flashlight weilders'
Then you proceed to unpack your 80 strong 1000pt force and suddenly those flashlights are quite scary
Best Heavy weapon? Good old Lascannon, can be relied upon (as long as you have more than one)
SPOON!
16th Jun 04, 2:25 PM
personally I really like the Wraithcannon; automatic glancing hit on 4, pen on 5/6
and is the only infantry weapon that can kill a monolith :D
second is the tau rail gun; explaind earlier

16th Jun 04, 2:37 PM
I daresay the best anti-vehicular weapon is the Haywire Grenade. It doesn't have any range, but a squad with these will shred any vehicle.
Tyranidian
16th Jun 04, 3:53 PM
For Ranged weapons, I'm going with A Carnifex's Barbed Strangler. Ordinance, str. 8 is deadly, especially when the rules update comes out. For close combat, hell, AGONISERS! Auto wound so long as you hit and roll 4+ on the to wound roll.

Best weapons = Plasma Cannons and Heavy Bolters.
on a vehicle = Whirldwind MLRS

But remember, any gauss weapon has the cool roll a six effect. So while we're at it, why not gor for something heavier than the gauss flayer? The Blaster takes the gauss effect to new and exciting levels, as does the cannon (but that's heavy, so move or shoot unless its on a destroyer...)

hammerhead rail gun is so so nasty
pulse rifles are definitely the best basic weapon
i try and avoid CC at all costs so i can't really comment on what nasty there, needless to say if its big and pointy i'm afraid

1 word, starcannon.
Cheesiest gun in 40k.
Master Chief
23rd Jun 04, 8:57 AM
What about the Wraithcannon? 12" range, AP 1, wounds on 4+, kills instantly on 6, and on vehicles, 4 is a Glancing hit, 5-6 is penetrating.

Bendy[KA]']1 word, starcannon.
Cheesiest gun in 40k.
Well it's balanced by the fact that it's really expensive to get them, you get a limited amount of them for any squad (unless you go Vipers or Warwalkers, but they're both VERY expensive and VERY fragile) plus the guardians who crew such weapons have difficulty shooting in the opponent's general direction. Of course the potential Saim Hain army with 18 Vipers, 2 Farseers and 3 Warwalkers is another story.
As for my favourates...
Ordinance-The Battlecannon. Granted there are more powerful weapons than the humble Battlecannon, but there is just something about seeing a Lemun Russ blowing holes in an opponent's army that just makes it Special. It's just tailor made for blowing holes in an opponent's force and has the range and survivability (Defiler excluded, but I personally think the Defiler is really Unfluffy) to last and make an impression.
Basic Trooper Weapon-The Tau Pulse Rifle. No questions here, and in the new rules it's even more deadly than ever.
Elite Trooper Shooty Weapon-The Reaper Launcher. A fully tailored Dark Reaper squad is about 230 odd points. They're worth it. The only problem is survivability now with the new rules, but their Uber range compensates for that.
General Heavy Weapon-Plasma Cannon. A big squad of Devestators with 4 Plasma Cannons is a force to be reckoned with. They're scary...but watch out for the little red bar under the temperature gauge...
Tankbusta-The Railgun. Really no questions here, but the problem is that the Railgun is pretty much a waste if they don't have any tanks (either because they heard you had 3 Broadside Squads or there are no vehicles left). Still that's a weakness all tankbustas possess really.
Finally, the Uber Close Combat Weapon-The Nemesis Force Weapon. Well given the fact that it's free for every Grey Knight, you might as well make use of these nasty things. S6 Force Weapons are not very nice.

And Wraithlords ROCK. They aren't vehicles, so they're hard to kill with 3 Wounds, Toughness 8, 3+ or 4+ save (can't remember which.) And, they can move and shoot all their weapons because of their special ability Implacable Advance.
Some more good weapons:
CC:Witchblade (wound on 2+, :D)
Bright Lance (AP2, 36", S8, AP greater than 12 is counted as 12) Bright Lance great against Land Raiders.

auto hit, 24" range, potential to be str 10 (1/12 chance of that, but meh, thats the chance you take) ap2 and 2d6 for armor penetration! cant beat that with any panzee starcannons and wot not!

I'd say best troop weapon is the choppa. max 4+ saves on every orc attack rocks. Hard to beat power fists/claws though.
Most annoying weapon would be the Tyranid implant attacks. Every wound inflicted counting as double is just sick.

I dont know if were allowing TK weapons, but the shadowswords volcano cannon kills titans. Best hand weapon is a dreadnought cc weapon. has the power of a power fist/claw, none of the drawbacks. Infantry weapons best is the sniper rifle for AP attacks, and Meltas for everything else.

I actually don't have a fav weapon, just a fav combination. I have a Wolf Guard Termintaor with an assault cannon and a lightning claw. My friend tried saying that was illegal, that I had to take two until I showed him the space wolf codex. :fight:

Tyranid Genestealers with scything talons. 4 attacks on the charge, S4, and the Rending Claws. Oh yeah, Initiative and Weapon Skill of 6.
Ranged is probably the starcannon.

the lasgun. everyone underestimates it until they have 100 of them all fireing into their command squad.
the battle cannon is my fav for vehicle weapons. like it was already stated, there is something great about a leman russ blowing away entire squads of your enemies troops.
