View Full Version : Brothers! Let us pray to the Emperor for guidance!

I thought that quoting some prayers found in 40k books/codices would be a nice idea. They might not be extremly useful now .... but you know when the game is released you'll be able to fill the comm channels of your enemies with litanies of hatred spilling from your lips. Driving fear into their hearts. Making them understand that it is you, the Adeptus Astartes, Emperor's Finest, The Divine Instrument of the Emperor's wrath that shall emerge battered but victorious at the end of the day :)
What is your life?
My honour is my life.
What is your fate?
My duty is my fate.
What is your fear?
My fear is to fail.
What is your reward?
My salvation is my reward.
What is your craft?
My craft is death.
What is your pledge?
My pledge is eternal service.
----------------------
Born in darkness, a dream given life,
Holy warriors to bring forth the light.
Armed with zeal, armoured with faith,
Gods of battle at the fore of the fight.
Swords of the Emperor, shields of Mankind,
Destined for war, fated for death.
Protectors of the weak, slayers of evil,
We fight ‘til we draw our last dying breath.
There is no retreat, there is no surrender,
Our hate of the foe drives us eternally on.
While aliens live, while heresy festers,
There can be no peace until the last war is won.
Strengthen your heart, harden your soul,
Launch yourself gladly into death’s hungry maw.
There is now time for peace, no respite, no forgiveness,
There is only war.
(from Angels of Darkness)
----------------------
What is it that gives us purpose?
War.
What is it that gives war purpose?
To vanquish the foes of the Emperor.
Who are the foes of the Emperor?
The heretic, the alien, the mutant.
What is it to be an enemy of the Emperor?
It is to be damned.
What is the instrument of the Emperor’s damnation?
We, the Space Marines, the angels of death.
What is it to be a Space Marine?
It is to be pure, to be strong, to show no pity, nor mercy, nor remorse.
What is it to be pure?
To never know fear, to never waver in the fight.
What is it to be strong?
To fight on when others flee; to stand and die in the knowledge that death brings ultimate reward.
What is the ultimate reward?
To serve the Emperor.
Who do we serve?
We serve the Emperor and the Lion, and through them we serve mankind.
What is it to be Dark Angels?
It is to be the first, the honoured, the sons of the Lion.
Praise the Lion.

"A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the world as a Traitor."
Cardinal Khrysdam: Instructum Absolutio
The Daemon has many forms. You must know them all. You must tell the Daemon from his disguise and root him out
from the hidden places. Trust no one. Trust not even yourself. It is better to die in vain than to live in abomination. The zealous martyr is praised for his valour, the craven und unready are justly abhorred.
Excerpted form the First Book of Indoctrination
The weak will always be led by the strong. Where the strong cry out against fate, the weak bow their heads and succumb. There are many who are weak and many are their temptations. Despise the weak for they flock to the call of the Daemon and the Renegade. Pity them not and scorn their cries of innocence - it is better that one hundread innocents fall before the wrath of Emperor than one kneels before the Daemon.

This is perhaps the most beautiful prayer in 40k that I know of:
A spiritu dominatus,
Domine, libra nos,
From the lightning and the tempest,
Our Emperor, deliver us.
From plague, deceit, temptation and war, Our Emperor, deliver us,
From the scourge of the Kraken,
Our Emperor, deliver us.
From the blasphemy of the Fallen,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
From the begetting of daemons,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
From the curse of the mutant,
Our Emperor, deliver us,
A morte perpetua,
Domine, libra nos.
That thou wouldst bring them only death,
That thou shouldst spare none,
That thou shouldst pardon none,
We beseech thee, destroy them.
Invocation of the Fede Imperialis.
Commonly known as the Battle-prayer of the Adepta Sororitas.

(The name's appeared in a few other places as well)
here's another one from Codex Daemonhunters
Praise the Emperor for his sacrifice,
as He endures so shall we.
We who are the Hunters of Daemons,
shall strive in his name eternally.
We the Order of the Hammer,
shall delve into the Dark Shadows,
We shall seek out the Tainted,
we shall pursue the Vilest Evil.
It is we who stand guard,
our Eternal Watch shall not fail.
For we are the Ordo Malleus!
We Grey Knights are the Hammers,
we slay the Darkness without fear.
Founded in great mystery we were,
Chapter six hundread and sixty six.
Though on Titan we be hidden,
yet our eyes encompass the Galaxy.
No Devil shall elude our gaze,
no Daemon shall avoid its Fate.
We shall be the Keepers Immortal,
all Secrets shall be our Knowledge.
We are the Guardians of Mankind!
Caution and secrecy are our code,
watchfulness and patience our way.
Hidden from the Eyes of Chaos,
we strike without warning or dread.
Though we find ourselves in Shadows,
no BLackness will enter our Hearts.
No treachery will touch our souls,
no pride will sully our thoughts.
We shall be Pure amongst Impurity,
we shall be Innocence amongst Guilt.
We are the Imperium's Hidden Saviours!
We are spread across the Heavens,
our watch in untiring and ceaseless.
The Emperor shall guard our Souls,
as we Guard those of others.
Our will shall be our weapons,
our faith shall be our armour.
Our minds will be secure fortresses,
no Temptation will weaken our resolve.
Though unnumbered lurking perils await us,
our blades will ever be ready.
For we are the Emperor's Vengeance!
Masters of all weapons are we,
no defense exists against our wrath.
With the Nemesis shall we fight,
with an Aegis to shield us.
In bloodshed shall we save Mankind.
Death shall be our Everlasting Creed.
War Unending shall be our Fate,
in battle shall we be steeped.
We shall be unstinting in Hatred,
we shall hunger for Holy War.
For we are Swords of Justice!
When all flee in hideous disarray,
strong and sound shall we stand.
Cowardice is wholly unknown to us,
Our courage comes from the Emperor.
Unbowed and unshaken against all foes,
we shall claim victory with blood.
Steady and surely we hunt them,
those that dare oppose our wrath.
Death stalks us in many forms,
the grotesque and the utterly inhuman.
We are the Bringers of Hope!
Bloody battles unending constantly await us,
redemption the reward for our vigilance.
When Possession rears its unspeakable head,
ours is the blade that descends.
When Empyrean Horrors invade our realm,
our Exorcisms shall hurl them back.
There is no Chaos spawned horros,
which can resist our indomitable anger.
With undaunted courage shall we prevail,
no arcane magicks shall overcome us.
We are the Bearers of Victory!
No corruption shall blemish our Gakaxy,
no Immaterial Fiend shall be spared.
No Malevolent Spirit will oppose us,
no Creation of Sin shall survive.
No Unholy Deed shall go Unpunished,
all Blasphemous Acts shall be Atoned.
No Spawn of Misrule avoids us,
all are banished to the Void.
Nothing shall evade our Cleansing Fire,
not Deamon or Spawn of Renegade.
For we are Mankind's Divine Blade!
Heavenly Blessings are laid upon us,
the Warp is ours to Tame.
Though Sorceries shall be against us,
no Witchcraft will bring our Doom.
Though Spell or Incantation blocks us,
the Emperor shall see us Victorious.
No Hex can overcome our determination,
our resolve is strong as steel.
Sigils and wards watch over us,
preyers shall server as our Guide.
For we are the Emperor's Chosen!
There is much darkness awaiting us,
no Damnation shall bring us low.
There is no peace for us,
for an eternity we will strive.
Though mere mortals in His service,
everlasting shall be out True Duty.

Sweet... First post and this is just the best place to do it...
One of my favorites:
"Only in Death does Duty end".
That one says so much about the devotion of the Space Marines.
If anyone ever played the VERY old game Space Hulk, you might have played the 2nd PC game as well. In the intro you had this narrator who said something about...
"1000 chapters of the emperor's finest
each of 1000 Space Marines
A Million Battlebrothers!"
Ohh Yeah!!
and this one is from the core rulebook:
It's not the horrors of war that troubles me, but the unseen horrors of peace...

There he stood before the monstrous deamon of the Eldar, He had seen such creatures before and knew their strength was formidable, but he also knew they were mortal. The deamon swinged his sword, the commander could nearly avoid it and swinged his deamonhammer against the creatures leg. A roar of rage came from the avatar and quickly he swiped the commander up. holding it close to his face as if he wanted to see the terror on the puny being's face. Yet the space marines would not desert their brother-captain and charged forwards shooting their bolters. The avatar was distracted and the commander felt his grip loosen. he managed to free his arm holding his sacred deamonhammer and swung it with his last strength against the creatures face. a roar of pain came from the avatar as he dropped his sword and the commander. the creature tryed to hold itself upright but eventually fell dead on the ground. the commander suddenly heard the last words of the avatar:
OMG Y00 H4X1NG N00B.

Well, it is kinda ironic that the Eldar accuse the Empire for murdering Xenos lifeforms when they have done the same. They really are snobbish and arrogant thinking that their survival justifies the death of civilizations.
As for a prayer,i read a nice one in a WD battle report:
During our darkest hour,
He watches over us
and guides our hand.
Hiss Will is ever strong,
we cannot fail in his sight
The emperor protects...

KingKupo

The Empire can have many reasons to wipe out Xenos species, the most common one is that they are viewed as potential enemys/blastphemys against the emperor. altough it is just a excuse to kill them because theèy just don't like them.
But the point was that the Eldar hold this against the empire while they do it themselves
NightBringer
19th Jun 04, 6:25 AM
the eldar do it becasue theya re trying to save the galaxy... not just their own hides like the IMPIRIUM (not empire)
Adeon
19th Jun 04, 8:07 AM
Yeah ... and that's probably why in Codex Eldar it's written about Eldrad Ulthran:
"It was he who guided us to the Ork known as Ghazghkull, and commanded us to steer his path to your world of Armageddon. Ten thousand lives would have been lost if he had not done so. What sacrifice is a million humans for such a cause?"
Make no mistake ... the Eldar are not the good guys who want to save the galaxy. They do only what is good for them. And yes they want to save only their own hides as shown by the following statement:
(from an Iterrogation of a captured Eldar Ranger)
"You are tools nothing more. TO be used and expanded to protect our race, that is your fate".
Oh and about saving the galaxy ... well they will save it ... but they will save it in a "clean" state ... without all those alien races :)
NightBringer
19th Jun 04, 8:19 AM
Ten thousand lives would have been lost if he had not done so. What sacrifice is a million humans for such a cause?"
they had jsut cause, remember that their race is on the verge of extinction, whereas humanity is infesting all corners of the galaxy, so sterring an ork waaagh away form their own worlds is perfectly justified:P
Adeon
19th Jun 04, 8:44 AM
So if they wanted to fight for a just cause they should have directed the Waaagh!!! to a planet teeming with chaos cultists or Necrons :P
And if I'm correct it was said that sooner or later humans and eldar would have to fight side by side ... and that their forces might still prove not enough .... so why kill the imperials?

Basically all races are evil and lesser evil with an exception of the Tau perhaps.
Oh and from that ranger quote let me quote me a rather noteworthy lines:
'He has seen the stars stained red with your blood and it has pleased him'
'You think us weak, but we will be your doom children of Earth'
and Humans aren't the only ones who have been fugged over by the Eldar, other races have been ass well but they just love screwing the humans. If the Eldar didn't need the humans holding the cadian gate and such they would've gladly let them kill eachother. They did have warned the empire at times but basically just because they just did it to save their skin.
They also have rather ritchy trigger fingers like the imperium, take that one tallarn story about that cusus of chaos. Instead of trying to at least once contact the Tallarn they just landed down and started shooting. Then the Tallarn strike back and severely whoop their asses for a while(like one commander taking down a scorpion superheavy with an unarmoured chimera with a pintle mounted bolter) After that they allied with the Tallarn to deactivate the fugging thing and they wonder why the empire calls them a random and capricious race?
I admit the Empire kills races but at least they are honest about it and say that they perceive none of them worthy of survival while the Eldar do their whole ' we're the dieing race and you should feel sorry for us' and then turn around and say 'let's kill them all'
and if you want to discuss this, open a new thread among the line of 'do you perceive eldar evil or good' or 'rage in the cage match: empire or eldar evil?' or something like that. We've discussed this in about a 100 threads with a different topic that that.
NjalStormcall

In defense of the Eldar, many Imperials would not be willing to speak with them to start off with. Specifically those in high positions, who would have a great deal to lose if it was implied that they were consorting with Xenos.
Secondly, not many humans can even speak the Eldar language. The Sisters of Battle are the only one side which I know of, that have an accurate compilation of the Eldar language. And the SoB aren't exactly happy to share their knowledge. There's also the scribes, who seem to have a knowledge of the Eldar language, but remember what the Sisters said? Even when you are trying to talk to the Eldar, its extremely easy to just mispronounce a word and have it be intepreted as an offense to them, even as a threat to them.
'course, the Eldar could always use telepathetic communication. But would you want to have an alien possess your mind to give you a message?
So communication with the Imperials is very difficult. There's actually supposedly a good deal of illegal black market trade with them by the criminal element in the Imperium - but what high-ranking Imperial wants to be associated with the lowest of the hive scum?
NightBringer
19th Jun 04, 10:16 AM

More like criminal syndicates and smugglers who deal weapons with several races like the Tau for profits (I even heard water caste members have a healthy suply of Imperial weapons for their Gue'vesa). Never trust an Eldar i say, they're as likely to turn on you when you've fought with them as a Tau running away after a death of a ethereal.
(note: if we want to go further on this, can we make not a new thread rather than risk this one being shut down?)

without the emperor there firstly wouldn't be any space marines to kick Xenos/heretic butt. There would be no unified humanity and they would become wiped out by ork and tyranids invasions. if they do unify, they will not have a object of devotion and as such
A) revert to Chaos worship. Soon this chaos worship will cause another chaos god to be born and drag everyone into the warp.
B) Eldar will intervene and massacre Mankind so they will not have the oppurtunity
C) will become slaves/servants of several alien races.(Tau will perhaps find the last free worlds and take them up in their empire)

What do you think Christianity is all about?
well there are many links to biblical events in warhammer, and the religious aspect is very similar to roman catholisism (not catholisism as a whole)
the event i speak f is the war in heaven, when lucither (ie horus) the favoured of all the seraphim (primarches) turns agaisnt "god" (the emporer) in an huge civil war.
and they worship a corpse becasue christ died 2004 years ago (and to christians, saved them form their sins) and founded christianity, and the christian empire (yes it was an empire) hence the emporer basically being a corpse on a throne uniting humanity in his impirium.
im not realy of any religion, they tend to start more wars than any thing else
if all these relogions say that its wrong to kill each other then why do all these terrorists keep figting? surly their god dosnt want that!
and i've said this in another thread... islam was forged by the sword, and according to the korhan, it will (fo lack of a more PC term) take over the world, and everyone will convert, whether that be by word of mouth, or by the sword.
terrorists, are islamic militants that have basiclaly taken that too seriously and are trying to do it now by trying to remove all oposition (ie democratic/other religion) leaders
