If you're appointed to design a new race for WH40k,what will be the race looks like/how it acts?
Please drop them down and post it here in detail(if possible)!

Big Muckle Dragons.
They'd look like all the different dragons you can have, European Dragons, Chinese Dragons and ones like the Final Fantasy's Bahamut.
They'd just burn worlds and collect treasure.

I was thinking of a "splinter" Human faction other than chaos. Its simple to create fluff about and would give us a understanding of the greivances of the citizens of the Imperium. This faction could be maybe Socialists or Commies because throughout history it is they who form out of tyrannical regimes, but these revolutionaries can still be as brutal as the imperium if needed be in desperate times.
They would obviously be equiped similar to the Imperial guard, but could use more primitive weapons. Maybe basically people from mining colonies in the outer worlds deep in the west or east of the galaxy. They have small fleets, assassins, militia. Basic soldier would be the 'Revolutionary' or something.
Meh, can;t be bothered to go on but another human faction might be interesting.

I'd go with another race that actually looks alien, Ie. at least different skin colours and several different bodyparts, not some kind of human race that is short and wide or tall and slender with freaky hairstyles. and it definitely wouldn't be a Fantasy port. There really aren't much really Alien looking races like Tau and 'nids without their fancy armour. but then again, they'd be hard to intrroduce since the empire nukes all alien races they can see.

i just had another idea for a human faction. TREKKIES! There will be 2 factions of them: The kirkians and the picardians, these will have sub-factions as the spocks and(as night pointed out) the 7 of 9's. Both factions will also have geek points based on their trivia of star trek and can challenge eachother in a ST debate in wich the loser will suffer 5676*10³ wounds. Their weaons will have only kill and stun mode, but as composation they will wear no armour. redshirts die automatically as soon is fired on them and the 'scotty' rule of the kirkians will allow for riskless teleporting.
and if that fails, 2 words: SPACE LEPRECHAUNS

Sounds like them tree-hugging Tau to me *shakes fist*. Anyway, I thought a trader race would be interesting. They come to the Imperium in search of profit and instead get incinerated. So in response they send in their various security forces to "protect their assets".

hmmm space rats.... sounds like a 1950 sci-fi horror flick.
Why not a advanced insect race? Instead of verocious looking things like tyranids, they are strong insects, like Preymatis warriors. Man this sounds crappy too.

Oooh, a 'create your own race thread'. I had one created a couple months back with a bit of fluff on em, although it wasn't too canon to the rest of the universe. I know a bit more now tho, so I might go back and change it.
I envisioned this race when I first heard about Squats in 40k which was fairly recently, less than 3 months ago. It was here that I first heard about them, and it seemed like as cheesy as the concept was, people loved the Space Dwarves. But with the idea of Dwarves missing in the 'Space-Fantasy' world of 40k, there is no real race that holds and relenquishes the idea of 'honour', or pride themselves with battle for the sheer enjoyment of it. Even the Space Wolves, as much as they love battle, are healf-heartedly devoted in fighting for the emperor, and the crazed World Eaters are devoted to their patron god. Honour through battle was going to be the basis of this race.
Also, knowing 40k's background and knowing that many of the races are mostly based off of other famous sci fi sources, like the Necrons having Borg and Terminator influences; Tyranids being the staple Xenomorph Aliens and Starship Trooper Bugs; and Tau being Anime/Asian Sci-Fi influenced, I'll list a few sources of my own for this race. The Klingons from Startrek, Predators from Predator series and the Kilrathi from Wing Commander all contribute pieces in creating this Honourable Warrior race.

Enter the Ferans. This feline-like race hails from a chain of worlds within the Eye of Terror. Their string of homeworlds were caught in the wake of the creation of the Eye of Terror, but the effects of Chaos did not taint their race due to their lack of psychic powers. They have survived in the Eye of Terror through their sheer natural resilience and keen primal instincts, and their technology is heavily influenced by their isolated homeworld and some of the Chaos beings around them. They are both patient and temperamental, and they abide a great code of self honour. Respect is given to those who live by the code, and they hold great grudges against those who are dishonourable or lack any ideals of it.
Their technology is also unique to the 40k world, in that they rely on chemicals more than any other material. Fuels, medicines, plastics and potions are all different aspects of chemicals they use.
I think this race would be a fresh new addition to the 40k world because it fits naturally in both a Sci Fi/Sci Fantasy background as well as fill in niches left open in the universe.

Well besides the Lost and the Damned traitor IG legions, there are also the Gue'Vesa of the Tau. Maybe if fleshing them out more would be an interesting take on more non-Imperial Human factions?

well ive got my race all sorted, and i think GW should really listen to this, they need to take everything that was ever popular and stuff it all into this one big ball, i made a nice pic of it, theres the alien trilogy, some batty demon thing, a robot with a big swordy arm, and i think i mighta put some boba fett in there too, oh well, just a warning, this may burn your retinas because it is so good.
well there was going to be a picture here but i can only link to webs, not attach stuff, so you just gotta imagine.

My new alien race would be: no alien race. Instead, spend the effort on more fluff, new units and more campaign books for the existing races in 40K, like Codex: Armageddon and Eye of Terror. Depth > breadth.

The Ellilrotai
4000 years before the fall a group of Eldar went to a planet to colonize it, it was a lush, living world that they kept reasonably intact as a tourist destination. It was only during the fall was the power of this world fully appreciated, when many of the other Eldar were falling under the influence of Chaos the inhabitants here were fine. The already isolated planet found itself truly alone until late in the fall a Eldar ship crashed onto the planet after narrowly escaping Chaos forces. Noticing their seeming immunity to Chaos influence it was investigated and it turned out to be their planet itself that protected it emmiting it's own phychic field. The wildlife's latent phychic ability managed to add up to form this field not unlike the orks communal phyche. This field had affected those from the planet for the 4000 years they had been there and now they were particularily phychicly aware even for the Eldar. This would have been a disasterous situation should any venture outside the planet but for the mental side effects of the field. The field emits a mix of feelings as one might imagine, but primarily it is an odd sort of peace. Not the perfect peace and quiet of a room, or that of a world without violence, it was a peace with life and death an acceptence of what is and what has been. This poorly explained feeling has the effect of focusing the mind, honing it razor sharp and helping the inhabitants find inner peace. This is more effective the the Eldar way or resisting Chaos in the field, they have a memory of an existence as much worth protecting as their own lives.
The Ellil (as they are also known) took it upon themselves to defend their place in the universe and if possible make more planets like theirs. It took time, but eventually they devellopped their own methods of fighting and their own war machines. Once they were satisfied with their ability to defend themselves they started to go to other lush, wild planets and look for the same things. It would turn out that this phychic field was particular to the wildlife of their own planet, introduction programs were started but it was only after their first brush with Chaos that they started to level the surfaces of planets so they could introduce their own fauna and flora. It turns out that the latter was much much less effective in the long run as all their methods of eliminating other life cause long term tectonic problems. The integration programs had less initial effect but soon it was seen that the native life started to developpe their own phychic abilities in responce to the small and weak fields of the the introduced animals. Soon these planets started to gain the same protection afforded by their home planet, the Ellil had found a way to protect all people from the influence of Chaos. It was not long after that the forces of Chaos started to take a particular interest in the Ellil and there were long years of war before the forces of Chaos gave up. During this period they truly came unto their own in war, using medium sized units they quickly and quietly eliminated their enemies. They found that the animals didn't like the forces of chaos either and it could be felt where they were through the fear and anger that spilled through from the direction. This time also allowed them to developpe gurrilla tactics above those of any other allowing thir units to always have a cover save. However when it comes to war machines they found themselves at a distinct disadvantage due to their small industrial power. Here they were lucky to have a potent research department that had discovered ways to improve most of their weaponry. The extra power and armour afforded the original Eldar units allowed them to still be viable for the price one must pay for them. This also extends to Ellil troops who are for their own reasons rather rare, however better equipment and training allow them to stay viable for their price. One of the more peculiar aspects of Ellil infantry is the fact that they do not have the high rate of fire weapons of most races. Instead they are armed with long range high powered rifles and with a high BS they act as snipers do for most races. Common tactics are to fire into approaching troops until a certain break point where they go off in three directions and fade away until they redeploy. Their vehicles retain much of their Eldar influence with high mobility and small size, however their own experience has forces them to opt for a design that can take more of a pounding as losses will take longer to replace. Also they opted to do away with a specific transport and instead added some transport capacity(6) to their medium skimmer. However their first and best line of defence has been their fleets. Given the fact that they couldn't afford to ruin their planets landscape with industry they focused what energy and resources they had to spare on developping outer space production. Their home system was soon scattered with small mining ships and contruction ships working on making huge space yards and battle stations. However given the nature of mining in space they soon found it much easier to develop technologies to cut out the expensive processing on planet and do it all on the spot. Soon there would be roaming groups of mining and warships(for protection) going through asteroid belts, small moons or whatever else returning much later with several times their tonnage in pur ore. The true leap forward was when the colonizing fleets were joined by the miners to these new systems and it was thought that a space yard would be needed in that system anyways so why not bring one. The mothership was born, truly the pinnacle of space technology this massive ship costing the same as a small fleet enabled the Ellil to expand faster then ever before. The mothership yard in orbit of their home planet Liratoi has continued to produce motherships challanging the other space yards and miners to keep up with their own productions. The motherships influences the design of all their ships and soon much more attention was payed towards designing ships to be easy to produce as well as capable of as much self-sufficiency as possible. Carriers soon had the capacity to build most of the ships smaller then they, this often resulted in less elegant ships but the ability to replace Cruisers within two weeks was an undeniable advantage. This also lead to a lot more automation to reduce crew requirements so that they had to pick up cryo coffins(full of frozen Ellil waiting for a ship) less often. All was well until the imperium came....... with 4000 space marines with Imperial forces to match. It took 20 years of hard fighting and gurrilla warfare before the imperium withdrew still unable to find the home system. The motherships had proven their worth ten fold, fleets decimated in one battle would disappear into the void only to come back at full strength and angry. Thousands of imperial troopers died of starvation as their navy and army struggled against the interference of the Ellil, more died from more direct harrassment through hit-and-run attacks. The 4000 space marines proved, as expected to be the greatest annoyence, always getting out of the tough situations, surviving through wounds that should have killed them. It was their navy that proved their down fall as fully half of them were killed when in transport. The Imperium withdrew and never spoke of it again, their shame silencing them.
