hi first of all i know this isnt about dawn of war, but it is about another warhammer game. for those who didnt know warhammer online was a MMORPG, set in the warhammer world. this game has been years in the making and was seculded to come out at the end of this year start of the next.

well suddenly with no warning to anyone, not even the slightest hint of what was happening they discontinued development and closed down the website. i feel so betrayed and pissed off by this i spend the better part of a year avidly following WO and then they close it off with no warning. FFS they brought out new info on classes avaible last week. ARGH those B*******! and that bloody message on the website is so bloody annoying. bah

http://www.warhammeronline.com/default.asp

i know noone on this forum it at all responsible, or linked it anyway with this, but as the WO forums were closed i have to bitch about it some where. i only hope the same doesnt happen to this game.

bah! :madashel: :steam:

Probably a smart move. WO would have to compete with World of Warcraft, a losing proposition.

rubbish. this game looked so much better than WOW.

bah

Doesn't matter how good it might have been, Blizzard has way more brand recognition in computer gaming than GW, they'd have never been able to compete against WoW, especially considering these are subscription based, MMORPG games and thus competing over the same customers.

spose, but warhammer online had quite a large fan base.

well im gonna have to be more careful from now on, ive already be banned from the games workshop forums for insulting a game developer and swearing - :D rrr happy days.

well, Blizzard did made diablo 1 and 2. Wich i consider to be their greatest failures. i still can't believe how people could consider them great RPGs but that's not the point.

still, i can understand the fears of the company, Blizzard could make a simple point and click a bestseller for some reason. still i reckon the fantasy license ould atract alot of people.

well from the message on the website they just didnt have the money to carry on. but as had been developing for 3 or 4 years and were going to release within a year, i cant understand how this is the cheaper option. this is a real kick in the teeth, i was really looking forward to this game.

Wow, that certainly is a shock. My mate is going to be so dissapointed. Only last week he was telling me all the good stuff they had recently revealed in a press release...

yeah i know thats why it dont make sense. last week they were releasing new info on the game, the forums were going well, and there was no hint that this might happen. then when i check the website tonight its closed. :(

personally i didn't really like the look of it. compared to other online games i've seen of the genre, it looked very budgetted as it was

@Canadian Guard:

Holy shit and a half, that actually sounds like a rediculously awesome game.

The problem with this time of game are the running costs once the game is released. So after however many years of dev time, if they dont feel they will sell enough units of the game to not only make up for the wages expenditure but to keep making a profit over keeping the servers/staff going etc i dont blame them for pulling the plug. Altho if they werent confident about the project they should have done it sooner rather than waste so much effort...

The game was crap through and through, I had no good intentions for it to succeed, and I'm actually happy it's been put down rather than be released and have a horrible time in the market.

Time for a reality check! Lets compare Elf Chicks!

thats hardly a fair comparison that image from WO is an extremely old one, at the time the model had not had its pose created to well, so it looks like that wierd one, the sword isnt skinned, and shes not wearing clothes. but even then the model doesnt look so bad, the fingers are individual, unlike the others were it is more of a paw, the detail of the bone structure on hand is much better than that off the other two games. the face...well yeah the face did cause a bit of trouble a hurumph on the WO forums, many people fought the eyes looked too alien. but then gain the ears in the others games are massive and kinda wierd.

i know im biased (but then everyone is) but i thought this game looked really good, for a start its set in the world of which im a great fan, secondly the career system in the game sounded a lot a more interesting than a class system. In this career system, you could basically move between classes by gaining skills, altho as you moved nearer to one class you would loose skills from previous ones, so you can get tank mages and stuff.

well i spose it doesnt really matter anymore anyhow. i would still like to see an RPG based in the warhammer world, maybe they should use whats already created to make one.

if you want to see some of the better work from WO try these links.

Well, i liked what i have seen from warhammer online. But World of warcraft, i just watched that trailer...looking bad. Its just like wIII, those hits dont even hit, and when they hit...unrealistic. Its like Runescape 2 with better graphics and better engine/system and abilities. Dow is Rts and melee looks much better than wow`s. Not good.(for wow) Well i hope relic wont get any bad problems with dow.

well at least warhammer online would have been an alternative for those who want more than this comic style WoW where all the kiddies think they are big gamers.

I think they,or someone else should make a MMORPG of WH40k......
And honestly, its popularity will overrun WOW's ones.

Sir Guppy

yeah lots of ppl keep talking bout a 40k RPG, i think the idea would be ok, but it might just end up as an RTS/Shoot em up when every1 gets a bolt gun. but if its done well it could be cool. also how would you balance the classes. in 40k fluff mariens are unstopable, a person playing a IG would always loose to a person playing a SM.

NightBringer

i have to disagree with that "in all fluff, sm are unstopable"... most of the fluff i've read, the sm have been slaughtered quite horifically lol

FeloniousPunk

I would much prefer a 40K pen and paper RPG to an online MMORPG.

Um, did you check the date? This was posted waaaaay back in 2003, no company takes that long to sniff out fraud if there's 'evidence' all over the internet. Seriously I doubt there's any truth to that post.

Sir Guppy

if you go with the inquisitor fluff, deathwatch SM could tak whole warrior bands.

KingKupo

yeah, and their termys probably got taken out by throwing sticks at them?

And what's that thing with ending your sentences with 'lol'?

nevermind. What he meant were facts out of fluff, your fluff was most likely the 'glorification' fluff. And that kind if fluff has the habit of glorifying them and putting in things like 'and the lascannon lasers ricocheted of their flak armour'.

He was using a fact: Space/chaos marines are major badasses in most conflicts and always take a heavy toll even if they lose.

NightBringer
22nd Jun 04, 10:30 AM
the "lol" thing is a bad habbit... i used to put an ! at the end of every sentence, now i jsut say "lol" ... and what do you mean my fluff is "glorification" fluff? how can it be like that if everything i read says that the sm are being slaughtered??? not the sm are administering the slaughter.

oh, i just remembered the real reason i do it... its coz in this day and age, if your not off the wall, and a little insane, you'd probably go mad and turn into some kind of hyper-paranoid freak :P lol

off-topic but i have to ask... in every american show/movie i've seen that involves parents and teenagers, why does the parent always say "we're going to get you some help" and try and get the kid to see a psychiatrist? whats up with that?

KingKupo
22nd Jun 04, 11:24 AM
with 'glorification' fluff i mean the fluff where one side takes out the other without almost any losses and alot of unlikely events. Your phrase: the SM got slaughtered implied that they became destroye without any chance of fighting back wich is very unfluffy as space/chaos marines are on of the deadlyest warriors in the universe, wich is a fact based on 40K fluff as 'eldar are the most agile and psychical powerfull race'

Of course it could be all a misunderstanding where you picked a wrong word and i understood it that way.

as to your second question: They are helping him/her/it if it's a mental illness. you may not believe it but they really are helping.

I understand this is your opinion, but you seriously can't be serious comparing DoW to WoW, which are two completely different games. You have to understand that Warcraft's graphics have ALWAYS centered around stylized 'cartoony' graphics, even in its cinematics (To a certain degree). Look at Arthas' oversized mitts in Warcraft 3's cinematics, they're overly huge and unrealistic, but that's the POINT.

I really never saw the need for complete realism in CG. If you want to see something real then watch a live-action movie. That's my 2 cents.

I dont need movie. Games like that just should have better graphics. But, if we think that no so many have computers to run games like that. Then we can say that its +. Well only thing i dont like is melee in wow(if it keeps like that). All other - are minor - to me.
