View Full Version : Orks and Morale?

From my understanding of the War 40K Universe, Orks are fearless. The Chaos Sorceror even says so in the demo.

Why then, do they have morale? Surely one cannot break if one knows no fear.

Morale represents everything from cowardice/bravery to simply being rendered ineffectual by sheer volume of fire.

The Fearless part comes in when you use the "Power of the WAAAGH" ability of the Warboss.

You might wana re-read the 40K rules then, orks suffer as the lowest morale race. They aren't exactly very smart.

Next time your Orks route make sure you hit the Waaagh ability of the Warboss. Instantly every unit around with rally and be immune to morale effects for a while. Waaagh regenerates fairly quickly so morale shouldn't be a problem once you get a Warboss.

In the 40k board game, orks arent fearless, they just dont see the consequences of charging into a dreadnought in advance. They will just barrel in, get slaughtered and realise they werent supposed to do that in the first place, then run away.

They are all about tough-talk.

Its funny how orks talk about how strong they are and how they gonna crush "humie" bones and open everyones heads and eat their brains in the same time having the weakest units....

Orks are talk, but not all talk :) They can back up their claims pretty well I think :)

By, "Orks are fearless," they don't mean LITERALLY fearless, and they don't mean individually fearless either.
They will still run if faced with overwhelming odds.
They will still be individually intimidated.
However, they ARE very brave, especially in large numbers.

Orks in TT become harder to rout the more numbers they have on the battlefield. Units that are damaged to the point of wipeout run away, but can "Mob-up" with other friendly units, so the scattered troops don't flee, they come back with more mates.

Theirs no way to do this from what i've seen in the modded demo, but from what i've played with the skirmish they take a fair bit of killin to actually break if you don't wade in with flamers and snipers.

Orks don't fear anything. Why fear anything when you can never lose?

If you winz, yooz winz.
If you runz away to fight later, well, you ain't really lost have you?
And if dey killz yooz, well, Gork an' Mork will just spit you back out to fight again later onz anywayz!

Anyone do any hard testing on Ork morale? Is it better the more of them there are? I find giant mobs of slugga boys don't break unless severely outnumbered and blasted for a while...and even then they still fight well...heavy use of snipers and flamers the exception of course, it seems just raw causalties don't faze orks much in this game...as it should be.

I already posted this in the beta discussion, but in the manual, on page 33, where they're breaking down the strengths and weaknesses of the Orks, there's this mysterious bullet point:

"Low Morale individually, but immune to Morale in large groups."

Huh? Anyone have any ideas what that's supposed to mean?

I might be wrong but I remember when it was talkng about Nightbringer in the necron codex it talks about all the names races have for him such as the reaper etc. It said he placed the fear of death in all races except the ORK's so they don't fear death like everyone else. This is all fluff of course and I don't have my codex in front of me so I'm not certain just putting my 2 cents in.
