View Full Version : Dual Monitors and Graphics Option Tool

The game seems to ignore whatever device/monitor is specified in the Graphics Option Tool. It always launches the game using the primary device/monitor.

Not cool. Can you force the application onto the second monitor using your device driver's settings?

Your DXDIAG.txt may be helpful in this.

The only way I can seem to switch it to use the other monitor is to set it as the primary monitor in Windows. The problem with that is that it changes my whole set up and messes up my desktop icon positions, etc.

DXDiag.txt please.

oops, sorry.

It says "You may not post attachments" ;)

Thanks (you can always just copy and paste the info into a post)!

The graphics programmer's away right now, hopefully he'll spot this when he gets back.

The game seems to ignore whatever device/monitor is specified in the Graphics Option Tool. It always launches the game using the primary device/monitor.

This is normal for monitors in windows using direct X. Normally rendering of the seocond monitor will be turned off when you launch a game - allocating all available resources of the graphics card to that game.

There are several options you can do. I've tested this using the TV out fature of a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB & a Geforce FX 5600 256MB cards.

Create a profile for warhammer under the advanced section for diplay properties - set the monitors to mirror each other. When the game is launched the same picture will be displayed on both monitors. Make sure you have double the amount of video ram required for the game - or you will expierince a drastic drop in frame rate.

You can also specify which monitor is set to default or primary when creating a profile. The settings in this profile will be used everytime DOW is launched (you'll need to select the .exe first tho)

Or: Leave extended desktop on & run the game in windowed mode - this will allow you to use other apps & play the game as well.

I haven't explored how to get DOW to play in windowed mode - but I'm sure it's on these forums somewhere.

Note: your computer needs to be pretty beefy to run video games in windowed mode & still have a decent frame rate. If your system barely meets reccomended game requirements I don't suggest doing this.

Well, I'm around.. just on holiday. No one can pull me away from work! ;)

There are 4 files that would help greatly in this:
1) The log file from the Graphics Options Tool after you've run it, set the device to the second monitor, tested to make sure it'll render on that monitor, and completed the configuration and exited the tool.
2) The local.ini file IMMEDIATELY after you've run the Graphics Options Tool, and before you've run the game again.
3) The log file from the game on the FIRST run after you've run the Graphics Options Tool. There is no need to play the game, just load to the main menu and quit out.
4) The local.ini file after this run of the game, after you have exited the game normally.

In step #1, if you choose the second monitor but it still renders to the first, please press Back and change the adapter to the first monitor and test that (so I can get the diagnostic results of both to compare), then change it back to the secondary monitor, test yet again, and complete the configuration.

Please be sure to include all 4 of these files (and correctly identify which local.ini is from step 2 and which is from step 4). Just post the files (one file per post) in messages here, as they should be quite small.

Thanks!

The test button in the Graphics Option Tool always executes on the same monitor.

That's ok, it's a hack we have in place on the forums to restrict doubleposting.
