View Full Version : Mission Four not advancing due to 'Fatal Scar Error'

During mission four, when you destroy the first Ork base, the Force Commander tries to give a briefing while the autosave kicks in simultaneously, resulting in a paused game with 'Fatal Scar Error' in white letters at the top. Going into the menu and resuming game lets me continue to play the mission, but after destroying the War Boss and searching all over his base (including both sides of it) for over twenty minutes looking for any more buildings, the mission still won't end.
A little help? Thanks.

Not cool. Do you have a warnings.log file from after the error happened? Did you have to re-load your game?
If you start the mission again from scratch, does the same thing happen?

Replaying the mission from the start doesn't work, neither does starting over with another saved game. Every time I reach that first base in the middle of the map and destroy it, it results in that error. Didn't happen in the demo though.
How do I obtain access to a warnings.log file?
Thanks.

Warnings.log file is in your c:\program files\THQ\Dawn of War directory.

Here's the warning log file after I started up a save game before destroying that base. The error happened again, but I can't seem to see what went wrong according to the information below:

Marcus: looks like warnings.log isnt giving us what we need here. In the game, when you get the "fatal scar error" can you bring down the console (CTRL+~) and copy whatever is in there (should be details about an error on a line etc) into here please?

Sure thing. Be right back in a few minutes...
Double Post
Hey, Chavez. First, both the error text and the Force Commander's speech text appear at the same time, if that's of any consequence. Second, the game freezes at that point, as after 'Fatal Scar Error' there's two words about pausing the game or something. Pressing the Esc key exits out of the Commander's text and lets me regain control with the mouse, but the game itself is still paused. However, going into the menu and resuming works fine.
I was unable to access the console during the error initially, after I pressed Esc, and after I resumed the game. Is there some command I need to input into somewhere to make the console work in-game? Thanks.
Also, I've updated my video card drivers and downloaded some drivers for my screen, when I went to Windows Update, which is what THQ tech support said to do. I also have DirectX 9.0c

were you able to bring down the console by holding down CTRL and pressing the tidle key (~)?

This isn't exact, but it's more or less what the console said:
SCAR--Alert Objective not found with title_id 240040
lua ScarUtil.scar Ln 824 (Util_ObjectiveComplete)
lua Data:Scenarios\SP\MS04.scar
Ln 991 (Rule_PlayerHasEstablishedSecondaryBase)
SCAR--Could not execute rule_PlayerHasEstablishedSecondaryBase
SCAR--FATAL scar error while running rules, execution paused

ahh ok. i see the problem, and its a bug in the mission code. You can work around it however by ensuring you only have 1 HQ when you destroy orks. You can probably even go into your save game (just before the orks are destroyed) and delete any hq's so you are left with only 1.
This should allow you to continue until we can patch it.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. What program should I use for my HQ's in terms of save editing?

oh, just go into the game itself and load a save game before the orks are destroyed and delete your HQs from within the game. You cant edit the save game file itself (at least I highly dont recommend doing so :).

Okay. I'll give it a shot.

It worked, thanks, Chavez. :) Do you know if this is a bug throughout the game?

nope, it will be local to that mission.
