Hi there,

Like a lot of other people on here i was getting crashes/hangs when playing the game. I mever managed to get past the tutorial in fact because it always crashed out after 20 minutes or so. I think i might have found a fix for this problem but i'd like to ask some other people to test it out and tell me what they find...

Firstly what you will need to do is uninstall your motherboards current AGP drivers through Device Manager. Now you must reboot and check that the drivers uninstalled successfully, if they havent and the driver details are showing exactly what they did before, then instead try roll back drivers. Reboot again. Hopefully one of two things should have happened, 1. The driver has now been completely removed and the New Hardware Wizard will prompt you for new drivers or 2. Windows has succesfully rolled back to a default AGP driver.

What you need to do is make sure that windows is using the new AGP driver which comes with SP2, this driver is numbered 5.1.0.200 (or 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) under Driver > Driver Details). Hopefully now you should be able to play the game without crashes/lockups.

So far i have been playing for 2 hours without incident which is by far the longest the game has ever run successfully for.

Btw i should add that i am using a VIA based mobo, so i am unsure if this will help with other chipsets, hopefully it will. You should be erfectly safe trying it though, as if it doesnt work you can just reinstall your chipsets AGP drivers.

Please let me know if this helps for anyone else.

Thanks.

Thanks for the post NB., a couple of other users have tried that without success, but perhaps some more can test it out.

Hmm sorry about that, i didnt realise it had been suggested already. It certainly seems to have made a difference here, but then again it could just be a coincidence. I'll post back after playing a bit further and see if the game remains stable.

By the way i just thought i'd say that if youre running a VIA based motherboard and you have SP2 installed then VIA actually recommend that you do not install they're AGP drivers from the Hyperion driver package. They advise you to run the default SP2 drivers. So whether or not this turns out to help you for this game it is still advisable to do this.

This is a good suggestion -- and one that VIA recommend themselves:

Hi,

I already said in my first post, you have to remove your current AGP driver through Device Manager.

You just go into control/system-> device manager look for the agp controller and db click it then drivers and then click uninstall.

Thou I got another question this chipset update installs over more than the agp controller such as memory controller and so on.. should I uninstall all those as well before installing the new chipset update? I really dont know wich ones I should uninstall then cause there are plenty using that version.

No you shouldnt need to uninstall anything other than the AGP drivers.

edit: you shouldnt be using a chipset update, what you need to do is remove your AGP driver and revert to the windows default, there is no need to update or overwrite anything

But I need the latest agp drivers I thought ?
So thats what I did uninstalled my old one and installed a new version..

Now I downloaded the latest cat from ati, they got 2 it seems one bigger with a new look and one smaller with the old look.. is there any other diff on these 2 ? Also the bigger one needed frame.net installed I did that now what does it actually do? and do I need sp2 for it or is 1 fine?

Hmm now when I installed the latest cat with new look I got plenty errors first time I started but now it seem to work fine.. thou there is 1 anoying thing.. since I installed frame.net I have to click on my name when starting win. to log in. before I just started and come insta in windows without loggin in... whats up with this new login? cant I remove that again? I dont want to log in when im the only user...

Now the next thing.. testing dawn of war now with all the new drivers :) lets see now..

1. No you dont need the latest chipset drivers, you need the default windows AGP drivers

2. Doesnt really matter they are both the same drivers, its just one has an overly fancy memory hogging control panel

3. Thats normal, i would personally recommend using the regular 4.9's instead and remove .net. Its entirely up to you though if you like the new control panel, keep it.

Ok I was hoping to solve the crash by this hehe...
But I crashed again...

And your right I liked the old look better..
Ill try to uninstall .net now and uninstall the cat and install the old look cat 4.9 hope this works still ? to uninstall .net ?

And I give up.. Ill just wait for a patch from relic then :)

Thanks for your help NB

Yep .net should uninstall without any problems. I would do it in this order:

1.Uninstall new cat 4.9's, reboot (also delete ATI folder form C:\)
2.Uninstall .net, reboot
3.Install regular cat 4.9's

Double Post

I there again sorry but i can't find my agp driver lol can you make some screen shot please?

Right you need to go:

Start > right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager

Now go down to where it says System Devices and expand the list, you should find your AGP drivers listed somewhere in there.

Cereals:

If you have SP2, you already have the AGP driver.

Remember that file you downloaded today? The Hyperian Drivers? Re-run them, and when it gets to the question about installing the AGP driver, uncheck it.

Hello all. I've been experiencing the same crashing problem and tried to follow the instruction given to resolve it, but to no avail.
I'm running a XP 2400+ on a KT400 board; I've tried to uninstall the damn VIA AGP driver, but everytime windows reboot, it auto reinstalls the VIA AGP driver; also, I tried to roll back on the AGP driver and it won't let me - it claims there's nothing to roll back onto!!

Is there any other way to do fix this other then a reformat? Can't believe I spent $80 AUD and it won't even run :(
