I'm sure everyone's been experiencing a few annoying problems with online play since DoW came out.

So far the main problems are:

Transferring Badges prompt. The game freezes at this point sometimes on a 4 player mode and freezes until it says the game has been aborted a few minutes later on 6 - 8 players. 2 players, it's fine. It is a little quicker when I connect to local servers but I still have the problem where I cannot play with more than 3 other players.

Gamespy lag. The lag is pretty bad sometimes, other people have worse situations but occasionally lag across all servers are moderate. Local servers are even laggy with ping times of 50 - 90ms maximum but gameplay is like 250ms+

Language version problem. This has been alerted before and Gamespy says it's fixing it. Hopefully soon because players don't declare what language version they have and drop when the game starts, annoying for the rest of the players that have to abort if playing in teams.

Data out of Sync. This is something unavoidable I suppose but it helps if people have fast connections / computers, might help avoiding the error.

Players changing game files. I don't know if some people are using the Beta or changing their game files and then connecting to Online play. This probably contributes to the Transferring badges prompt hanging.


This is just my list of problems I've come across, hopefully this might help out with resolving some of them but people should report any other problems they've come across as well so they can at least be looked at.

What is your connection speed?

Transfering Badges issue... someone may not have their firewall configured properly.

Gamespy Lag... first off, gamespy has no involvement in the process once the game is up and running. The lag will be caused by a slow PC in the peer to peer game, or a really slow connection to one of the people in the game. The lowest speed system determines the overall game performance.

The Language version problem should now be temporarily addressed by the Release of the English 1.01 patch, which will prevent non-english users from playing with English users until Non-english games are patched to 1.01.

Data out of sync has NOTHING to do with connection speed, this is when two parts of data become mismatched on all computers in the game.

The beta is no longer working, game files cannot be changed or an out of sync will result. This would have nothing to do with badge transfer issues.
