Forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum, but I don't know which one to put it in.

I have a D-Link DI-624 Wireless router, but I don't know how to set the right ports to actively join and host games (right now, joining is impossible, and hosting is slow as hell). There are guidelines here for other types of routers, but I need help from somebody with a D-Link router to set this up right. How do I do this?

To join a game, you don't have to open up any ports. To host it's port 6112 UDP.

Edit: try this thread...

I keep getting the same reply from everyone regarding this question - I have forwarded all the ports mentioned ( including UDP 112 ) , I have put my computer in the DMZ , I have turned off all firewalls - basically everything that should work in theory but in practice -I can still only join games - not once has a hosted game of mine been joined by anyone.

I wonder if you are in the same boat - I have Dlink 504G router - very easy to configure now only if the damned thing will let me host a game or two.

Is there anything else that needs to be done that I haven't ????

Basicly if you enabled DMZ there should be no issues. DMZ isnt really adviceable since it leaves you more open then a 7/11.
Check for firmware updates?!? If it still doesnt work I guess there is some "issues" with D-link that can only be solved by D-link themselves. Call the support, explain the problem and they will forward it to the technicians of d-link.

Sorry if this is obvious but have you turned off both the computer and router firewalls?

Moving to Hardware Troubleshooting. More likely to get a better technical answer there :)

Kasmapalities, you already created your own thread on this. Please do not spread your problem into multiple threads, especially not old ones in the wrong forum. All that does is create confusion.

yes d-link router, i used to have one, good router, but horrible for multiplayer games.

i can play multiplayer on dawn to war - only by switching DMZ on.

i keep getting some strange message while playing the game, i give up, cause i want a router for some protection.

so i went out to buy a linksys router.

and no problem after that. d-link is good , but not for multiplayer game. save yourself the problem and replaced the router.

Heh... I have a D-Link DSL-302G/TX ADSL modem that lets me play but wont let me host...

It seems we have a manufacturer specific issue here...

yes indeed that was the same problem, i can join but cannot host, or i can join the game, and then when the game start, i drop out, all because of d-link firewall, switch dmz on, to disable it. you can do anything.

but why get a router with no protection, it is time to change the router.
i cannot believe after so many years, they do not want to solve this problem, i do not understand why. i am sure dlink will go bust. one day.

I have a D-Link G604T Wireless ADSL router... I was having trouble hosting games until this evening, when I set up port forwarding for each of the ports/protocols listed in the readme.

I had previously set up the router to keep the ports open, but now have ALSO added port forwarding and I'm able to host automatch 1v1 games. That didn't work before at all, and may not work (I guess) on every model router, but I'd recomment you give it a go.

Hope this helps some of you D-Link owners out there...

i have a similar, though intermittent, problem. I am also using the DI-624+, and can join games no problem! To host, I set my PC in the DMZ and could host ONE game. Just ONE. After that I can create games, I can still join, but anyone trying to connect to my hosted games gets the "Cannot connect to host" error.

That switch to a Linksys is really starting to sound good. :(

I may have found a solution that works for me:

1. Don't put your PC in the DMZ.
2. open the D-Link config page, select "Advanced"
3. Select "Virtual Server"
4. Add an entry for GameSpy. Private IP is the IP D-Link assigned you, Schedule=always, private/public port is UDP 6112
