View Full Version : Permanant Control+# binding?

I was just studying the DoW interface and I was wondering if anyone knew if you could bind buildings/listening posts ect. permentantly to a key in the same way that you can bind anything in game with control+ a #.
I was wondering because the control bind is much better than the cycle bind in that if you click the bound key once, then you just get a HUD interface change for upgrade selection, and if you double click it then you actually cycle on map to the object in question.
Whereas the cycle bind [IE HQ cycle] always warps you to the HQ and that can prove quite a hinderance in intense combat situations.
Anyone?

Just bind it the same way you would a unit

You can do control groups with a building, I've got my barracks/orbital relay as 9 & 10 when I play marines, easy access to teleports & drop pods

Yes-But I would like to bind them permantly for every game so I do not have to trouble myself in game every time to rebind them.
Anyone?

Oh that, probably not, it'd be hardcoded into the game. May be able to mod it but it could be tricky. It may also depend on if control groups are a global thing or race specific, if it's global, you'd have a keybinding to a thing 3 races can't use...

Seems to me that Relic is somewhat damning their great game to mediocraty with this lack of control features:{
Too bad-I'll still play the hell out of it-Its just that many others would find it far more interesting if it where more acomadating to the individual players wants.

I don't recall for sure but I don't think the mighty starcraft or warcraft 3 allowed you to bind every little feature to you're own special keys.

What he's most likely looking for is the ability to jump to buildings of a specific type by way of hotkeys. This is something I agree should be in the game.
For now, I use Ctrl+R to cycle to buildings that have upgrades outstanding (especially listening posts).

In all honesty I have only ever had to bind the chapel barracks/orbital for teleports and drops. The game never reaches that stage though, and I've never had to bind anything else. I don't see a huge problem with this, but that's just me.

I think that you can double tap the number to jump to the numbered unit
The only reason I can think of a person wanting to have things like non-marine barracks/armouries etc hotkeyed is if they really want to build things with maximum speed and think the few picoseconds it'd take to click back to the base on the minimap then select the building is going to lose them the game

If you are doing that, then you are taking the game too seriously or are more screwed in game than those few milliseconds can save you, anyway. Relax...:D
