I wanted to watch it, except the bosox weren't beating the yanks quick enough, so I decided to watch that rather than Farscape. I'll catch the full thing tonight, though.

I've been tracking this thing for quite a while...and the wait was worth it.

I think I'll watch it again tonight, I made sure I recorded it. They put more effort into the special effects for this movie deal even though they've always been good, and I really like the graphics (PK Command Carrier in orbit and all).

The ship battles have been good so far.

The connection to humanity being established was, I suppose, something the fans wanted quite a bit. I'll have to see how it develops before my comment though - but it's good so far.

Best Farscape Evah so far..

Now that is how you end a series.

Those wormhole weapons totally owned. Seeing is believing as words cannot describe what it does.

one of the best ending to a scifi i've seen, Babylon 5 holds that crown.

I know something of Farscape, but only watched a few episodes. Is there some fan forum with a post that details the plot of this 2 part movie?

TheDeadlyShoe
19th Oct 04, 7:57 AM
I was pretty impressed as well. I think they had season 5 sketched out and they compressed it into a 4 hour miniseries.

FYI, both parts are replaying on Sunday.

Rincewind:

The plot in a nutshell:

Series:
John Chrighton, a human astronaut, has an accident in space testing a small re-entry vehicle. He is sucked down a wormhole to another part of the galaxy where he is picked up by a living starship named Moya.

Moya was a slave to a group calling themselves the "Peacekeepers" and used to transport prisoners. Moya and the prisoners onboard had just escaped and where now on the run.

Much of the series is spend running from the Peacekeepers. During one episode Crighton comes into contact with some Ancient race who give him knowledge of wormholes he needs to get home. However, this knowledge can be used to make weapons. (Open a wormhole between the core of a star and an enemy fleet, Siege Cannon anyone?)

So now the Peacekeepers AND their rivals the Scarran Empire want Chrightons head (alive) and he has no chance of going home since where-ever he goes two powerfull empires follow.

The movie starts with open warfare between the Peacekeepers and the Scarrans.

Expect loads of miracle tech, at the end of the tv series Crichton got vaporised (kind of) but they piece him back together without much problems.

Small note, Chrighton has a copy of the personality of a guy called Scorpius living in his head making for some interesting monologues.

I meant a spoiled text of the movie. Use spoiler tags, please, so others don't slaughter you. :)

An interesting side note that I read in the Seattle Times. The German company which owned The Jim Henson Company, EM.TV, was reluctant to start work on the "The Peacekeeper Wars." So Brian Henson (who is a Henson chief and Farscape executive producer) and his siblings pooled their resources and bought back the Jim Henson company in order to get it rolling.

Kushan_Pilot
19th Oct 04, 1:52 PM
Jim Hensen was owned by a German company? ... Lotta executives out there need to be shot. They sell stuff out-of-country too fast. Oops...wait, that's a major political topic...forget it, move on! My bad.

Anyway, Part 2 came on last night unexpectedly. I didn't see it on the schedule and assumed I'd see it Sunday, the usual week-long period between Sci-Fi channel movies in my experience. Missed the first 15 minutes but was able to get it when the rerun hit.

Excellent movie! I agree, it was an excellent way to end the series! The special effects of the wormhole weapon were great!

For a moment at the end I wondered what happened to Grunchlek and...what's-her-name(dang brain fart) but then it occurred to me that the planet they were on was roasted. The only reason I gave it thought to begin with was that you see them together at the end, either to show a mutual knowledge between the two of who they are (spies) or leave a hanging story element...

The loss of Dargo was done very well, and I wasn't sad to see him go. "They suffered" . Giving the baby his name was a real plus.

Rigels future, in terms of his empire, was left hanging. However, we were left with the knowledge of his invitation to return, and likely he'd eventually regain total power somehow.

Scorpius stood in-between two powers that consider him a traitor in the end. Naturally, you can imagine his total interest in PK safety, so he's going to be either up to no good, behind a major or perhaps secret PK effort to monitor or be paranoid of the Scarrens, or do that and retire from galactic joyride life at the same time.

Chiana and Jawthie(?) are anyones guess, though one can imagine a future romance between the two.

I have to admit that the very first time I saw Commandant Graza's state of pregnancy, I was suspicious of the father, but apparently it was the child of the head dude of the PK fleet in an effort to rebuild her own power. I had originally wondered over Chrichtons possible fatherhood in that regard, if you recall older episodes.

Obviously enough, Chrichton and family will likely settle on a friendly world somewhere out of the way...probably Hinieria(?) with Rigel or something.

And...hmm...that's all for now :D .

I finally got to watch it. I thought it was a great ending to the series (a lot better than the Season 4 finale lol). I loved the space battles, but I'm a sucker for those anyway. I thought they went a little crazy with the 'lets bring back every character we can possible work in' thing.
I liked that they explained how humans fit in. I was wondering through the whole thing if Crichton and Aeryn were going to end up on Earth or not. It definitely would have been within the Ancients' ability.
I just wanted to say that even though I love the show, I started loosing interest in this season. The overall theme got too repetitive, reminded me of Season 1.
Season 1: Chased by Captain Crais for killing his brother, going into Uncharted space which is dangerous and unknown
Season 2/3: Chased by Scorpius for Wormhole Tech.
Season 4: Chased by Commandant Grayza for... what, not being her sex toy?, going into Tormented space which is apparently worse the Uncharted space?

Also, I disliked how the look of the Scarrans changed. I loved the designs for Season 2/3.

WTF?!? So when did lizards get nipples?

TheDeadlyShoe
30th Oct 04, 3:35 AM
It's not a nipple, it's, um...protective camoflauge. On their homeworld.

they help protect from the Pec-Fiends of Scarran.

Kushan_Pilot
30th Oct 04, 9:32 AM
Well, they did have some of the "old" Scarrans in the background in PK wars.

I certainly noticed the look of the emporer, but I figure that it's easily enough phenotypic (story-element wise).

I really enjoyed it too.

The nod to Finding Nemo was funny (CGI Rygel eating the clownfish whilst retrieving crystallized J&A), as was the homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey at the end.

The ending wasn't anything new in sci-fi/drama terms, but it didn't matter for me because I think Farscape gets so many things right (I love Scorpius and Wormhole Guy)

Langy
30th Oct 04, 11:21 AM
The story element is that the 'new' scarrans, with the more humanoid faces, are smarter than the 'old' pointy-faced scarrans. I never had any real problem with it, and they melded it well with the rest of the series.

Yggdrasil
30th Oct 04, 3:15 PM
You all should have watched season 4!

The old Scarans were the "warrior" caste, the original kind of Scaran.

The "new" ones have a symbiotic relationship with a plant that makes them more intelligent, and also gives them shorter necks and makeup that allow them to articulate their faces. :p

Langy

You should probably have put that in a spoiler tag, considering those are spoilers for the last few espisodes:/

Whilst I adored the series (and have the entire series on DVD)I have to say the mini came as a massive disappointment for me. Simply, they tried to do too much with too little time. Cliched, hackneyed, predictable and way too many pointless firefights which I ended up fast-forwarding through.

The entire situation with the pirates (harpooning Moya like a Humpback whale) was utterly pointless...a story unto itself that was obviously meant to have originally been an season 5 episode with premade costumes they couldnt bear not to use. Time they should have put to better use concentrating on the core of characters.

Waste like this littered the program to such a degree that truly important events and character 'moments' had to be glossed over too quickly ie. Jools and Dargos deaths and Sikozus betrayal.

Recycled actors ie the Priestess who played the 'nurse' who helped torture Aeryn last season. And the PK boss who played a bad guy in a number of 1st and 2nd season episodes.

Awful space battle choreography...2 massive fleets of PK and Scarran ships squeezed and huddled in one frame of my 68cm TV?...puhlease. (although admittedly BSG03 has been spoiling me in that arena)
I could pick this mini to pieces for ages, bad acting, plot script, editing, makeup...the works.....sufficed to say the producers forgot a fundamental rule which was a cornerstone of Farscape ..... Less Is More

David Kemper deserves a sound spanking over this one

Something I just remembered. They sort of forgot that PK Command Carriers have shields! They showed this in Season 1 and never mentioned them again. From 'PK Tech Girl' where one of two shield generators worked:
