forward the gameport 6112 and u can play online...
but u still cant host and in automatch u are often supposed to be the host so if u dont cancle u can wait forever... thats the main reason automatch works so badly if many router users are in the channel
that truely need to be fixed and the gameports who have to be forwarded to host a game should be written anywhere please?
i mean noone knows anything, thats really bad dokumentation..

"Dokumentation"? Please.
I have a router and I automatch fine. Upgrade your old Lynksys router - go out and buy a worthwhile one (maybe a Negear Professional) and you will be fine. Make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade too.

dude wtf u talking about, can u host games? what ports have u forwarded, stop talking about routers and their firmware it doesnt help anything, the problem are the right ports not the router ok?
Now, now, let's all calm down, shall we?
Morpheus, if you could tell us how you configured your router (i.e. what ports you opened), that would be great.
NeoUndead, you can try putting yourself in the DMZ. If that doesn't work, I'd wager the problem is not your port configuration but rather something else.

I have no ports forwarded. I can host games. My buddy had an old pos lynksys and couldnt host. He went and boughta real router and is now able to host games while we play on them lanned at his house, and people can join them from outside too so we can get cool 3v3 games.
Again - its your router. And can you please proofread a bit and type out "you" and such? Firmware and the router you have will make all the diffirence. This game requires no port forwarding.
Moe : No ports forwarded, and I am DMZ. Netgear Professional Router.

DMZ means demiliterized. You arent listning to me here - there is no port forwarding needed for this game. At all. If you cannot connect, its your routers :
1) Firmware
2) Model (dated)
3) Your not DMZ

Morpheus:
DMZ is a global port forward setting.

UJ - I realize this. But generally when people talk about Port Forwarding, my experiance is that they require specific ports to be forwarded to IP's. For example, you cannot play on Battle net without a specific port forward even if you are DMZ.
Also, if host is DMZ, other pc's in network do not require PF and are also not DMZ but can still join although they cannot host.

dude i programmed my own routing system with qos(quality of service management) 5ppl using one dsl and i wouldt ever be able to play with usual noob router while 3other ppl are downloading, so if u cant specify what ports must be open or forwarded dont answer always the same
dmz if feature of some routers or a programm, any facts please?

LOL Ok so you programmed your own routing system, but you dont understand what DMZ means?
NeoUndead

u dunno it urself and just post lame helpless replies with "upgrade ur firmware" lol
cant u just be quiet if u dont even know what u talking about
god there are always new features which u can write in 3-letter-form and feel very professional...
so is dmz is any standart in new routers or is it a software, seems very hard to tell any useful facts here
OK, the flaming will end right now.
Neo, DMZ means basically you are forwarding anything and everything to your PC. There should be a setting for this somewhere in your router config.
If it's not, try forwarding the whole port range manually. If you still can't host, it's not a forwarding problem.

ye thnx, but that is of coz not possible, then i wouldnt need any qos-router and just use the dsl alone :/
although dow cant use all ports, anyone should know exactly which are required, it very bad made for using so many ports and not just 1-3 like sc/war3

Most people don't have an issue with forwarding all the ports through DMZ.
The readme lists precisely which ports are used by DoW and Gamespy.

Yes but using DMZ leaves you wide open for hackers, its basically disables the firewall abilities of the router

Because an updated windows OS with no shares on it leaves lots of avenues for hackers to access your system. Oh wait, that's right, it doesn't.

Not if you have a good router. You can block hacker services.
To sum it up:
-some routers have issues with hosting
-in some cases this can be solved by forwarding ports, in others it apparently doesn't work
-if you connect to the internet with a fully patched windows version to play DoW, you will NOT be attacked by loads of l33t h4xx0rs trying to break into your PC and steal your email.
-the logical conclusion therefore is that if a)your router doesn't let you host and b)you have tried all of the things suggested here, you should proceed to step c), which is playing without the router.
-we are also aware that this is inconvenient, but sometimes creating workarounds is the best we can do.

@moe i dont care what any routers by any company have problem with, if u want me forward these thousand port gay gamespy need to play a standart rts game in internet ...:
UDP 6500 TCP 6667 UDP 27900 UDP 27901 TCP 28910 TCP 29900 TCP 29901 UDP 9910 TCP 29920
very well programmed, i guess it would be just too easy if just one or two gameports would be used like in any other decent online game...
i wont waste my time here anymore
not my poroblem when many users cant host, causing automatch to suck so hard whenever a router user is chosen as the host so all wait forever

Neo : You claim in your posts to be an extremely gifted network engineer, yet you type like the eleven year old you accuse us of being. Looking at your myriad spelling errors and formatting issues and "u" and "baught" etc, maybe its possible that your code has a similar error in it? Or maybe you should try getting a second connection for the 5-8 people that seem to be sharing one DSL connection?
We have given you the answers, if you are here just to antagonize us, please desist.

im 23, studying informatic and im not rich born to get a second dsl here, thanks for the great idea man ;)
anyway people who flame about spelling "errors" in internet gaming forums just show their poorness on arguments :/
i mean its not hard to see that a 9year old game (starcraft) needs 2 ports, 3year old warcraft needs 1port and dow needs 10ports... yeah truely great work for a multiplayer online game came out 2004 !
Since we are apparently incapable of providing an acceptable solution to this problem, and this is very rapidly turning into a flamefest, this thread will be locked now.
