I'm running an Athlon XP 2500 + (Barton) FX5600 256 Mb, 1 Gb PC3200 RAM, Dx 9c, nVidia 6177's and XP Pro SP2 but all of a sudden I can't connect to an online game, can't host one either! I applied a couple of mods (Space Wolves, Eye of Terror) then couldn't get a game going (even uninstalled and reinstalled the game without mods). What's hapenning? My system is more than sufficient to run the game and loads maps, banners etc then bombs out. Firewall is set to unblock DoW so I don't know wtf is going on!

Any ideas?

When you've uninstalled the game, it wouldn't have necessarily have removed the mods that you have downloaded, probably only the original game files so when you reinstall the mod is still in the DoW directory. Try uninstalling again then delete the THQ folder from program files all together. Now reinstall DoW and hopefully it will work.

Does it say "sync error"?

If it does it's probably the mods that is the problem. If players don't have the EXACT same installation of DoW you (often) get sync errors!!!

Solution: manually remove all the mods OR just reinstall the game from the CD's...

My five cents... :o)

Post a warnings.log after a failed connection attempt please.

Mrhviid: (even uninstalled and reinstalled the game without mods)

You mentioned a firewall, is it a software one like Microsoft's or are you behind a router?

@ Mrhviid - got a sync error on 1, I believe at least 1 of the players who joined was German so it could have been a version issue (I seem to remember reading something about compatibility issues between different language versions). All the others were just timed out - waiting for other players and then bombed.

@ Moe - I'll try again and post the log file later today (when I stop being fed up and restart Dow instead of Tribes:Vengeance :D)

@ Esper - I'm a little security paranoid so I'm behind the MS firewall that comes with XP sp2 as well as a hardware firewall built into my NAT router. However, nothing else that I play online is inhibited once I've unblocked it on the MS firewall. Enemy Territory, Tribes:Vengeance, Warcraft 3 etc all work fine.

Also, in the line of trying everything, I've doublechecked for the latest patch version for UK/US release and am already running it, killed all background programs and disabled software firewall/virus checking, disabled NAT on the router etc. I'm trying desparately to think of anything I've missed! The worst bit is, a friend of mine is running online with the same sort of config and has no problems.

EDIT: Moe, I got the warnings.log file, if you let me know which which part is relevant I'll post it as it's a little big to stick in in toto.

Try shutting down all your firewall software then trying.

@ UberJumper - I've already tried that. Shut down everything, disabled NAT on the router etc and got absolutely nowhere. As I stated previously, the most frustrating thing is that a friend runs the same set up without problems!

I've read through the warning.log and found that the last time I got booted it was a sync error, I'll try killing everything again and reinstalling from scratch, manually applying the patch and other such things.
