I am very pissed right now. http://forum.skill-club.com/images/smilies/default/mad.gif

Very.

I've been in the multiplayer lobby trying to join games for the last hour, and I managed to only get into one game. I tried creating games, but with no success. All I get is some lame message that says the connection was refused, lost, has an error, or that my firewall or router isn't set up properly.

My firewall and router are set perfectly. I've checked too many times to count.

Then, to compound my frustration, the game I finally get into my partner (who was a decent guy), has zero skill. This might have been avoidable if there was SOME GOD DAMNED WAY TO TALK TO MY PARTNER BEFORE THE MATCH. http://forum.skill-club.com/images/smilies/pissed.gif You know, maybe to talk strategy, or get an idea of what skill level he was on. Look at his stats and such. However, instead of being able to chat in a productive multiplayer enviroment I have to put up with the BULLCRAP system in place now that makes any form of real communication IMPOSSIBLE.

GRRRRRRRR!!!! http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/dvv/po.gif

You know, I've tried to be as positive as possible, starting threads like THIS ONE HERE (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=45261) to support the game while waiting for improvements, but when you sit through an hour of bullcrap to only have another hefty load dumped on you because of shyte game problems and lack of necessary features, it really makes me want to turn this damn computer off and pick up a book to read instead.

This game should be fun. Not frustrating. I'm done playing DoW for the weekend. http://forum.skill-club.com/images/smilies/wallsmile.gif

uhm.. What exactly is your complaint? You CAN talk to people, before, during, and after games in lobbies. Have you tried going into a lobby where there is 100+ people just sitting around hunting for games?

Or is your complaint about a bug or glitch in the system that prevents you from doing anything I've just stated? If so, perhaps you should bring it up in the bug reporting forum-- Relic loves to hear just how many bugs there are in their game. ;p

Double Post: Ah. Well, if that's what he is referring to, the same has happened to me on occasion. Do you use an ethernet link, or some sort of router where your IP Address changes on a semi-regular basis? If so, that might be the problem-- my friend has the same sort of thing and it causes massive problems.

The other reason might very well be your firewall. Firewalls have a tendency to block information coming/going in games, and can cause irritating things like lag, disconnections, crashes, and the inability to create or host games.

To the original poster. Same thing has happend to me, SAME EXACT THING. I cant create a game or join a game bceause it says something about host connection was refused or something.

When I create games No one can see them

Dont give up yet. I personally havent even had the time to get into multiplayer (and man am I gonna get creamed when I do!), so I cant relate 100%. But youve been a (good) part of this community since the game was released and Id hate to see you go. I realize that a lot of people are getting really frustrated waiting for the patch. Just hold on and keep your fingers crossed that Relic will respond to the problems that seem to be plagueing their damn fine game.

Ok, I been fiddling around with a lot of things, and I seem to be able to connect pretty regularly now. Here's what I think the problem was:

If you have installed the new Windows service pack 2 thing then you'll need to go into your control settings to the security tab and turn the stupid internal firewall thing off. It's totally useless if you already have a firewall, and it's automatically on by default after installation. Ridiculous.

I'm still having a problem hosting games, so there is still something else going on here since I've tried hosting with no firewalls on at all, but at least I can play now.

And another thing that irks me, you have the ability to make passworded games but the only way you can tell your other players what the password is is to broadcast it out in the whole damn channel for everyone to read. Kinda ruins the whole point of having a password to start with, eh?

@ TheLoneKnight:

Have you ever actually tried talking to someone in the online chat lobby? Are you seriously saying that I should try to carry on any sort of real conversation at all in those lobbies? :wtf: Anyway, thanks for your post trying to help. http://forum.skill-club.com/images/smilies/default/icon14.gif

@ Warbrother:

Also wanted to say thanks to ya for your encouraging words, it's the only reason I even went back and tried to fix the problem, and now I can at least still play. http://forum.skill-club.com/images/smilies/default/icon14.gif

Hopefully this post here can help you out Kasmapalities.

i say we blame it on gamespy ><

Heh having 2 firewalls on can cause some problems, confictions etc. Just make sure DoW is in the exceptions list and you should have no problems, apart from the usual gamespy crappyness (perma kicks until restart etc :smash: )

ahh..if only this was on b-net..then everyone would have no complaints.

Of course, B.Net cost twice as much to build as DoW did. ;)

In the lobby, you can send private messages to an individual or a group.

You have to click on where it says "Send to All" and change it, and have the person or people you want to talk to selected in the list.

I don't think you can do that when you're in the pre-game lobby.

But there are probably codes you can use like "/w Hey, let's gang up on the player with the pink color scheme", but I am not sure what the codes are for whispering, or if there are any.

I wonder if anyone knows?...

Good luck, I would rather nice people stay with the game and ride out the tough times. Things will get slowly better. Slowly. But better.

Remember, these are the good old days we'll be talking about years from now.

Love,

Hanna

Look, son. I know you think it's a pain that Heat Death of War IX doesn't have telepathy chat enabled until the patch. But back in the day, you had to engage in Byzantine ritual merely to whisper someone in Dawn of War. You'll live.

its gettin really hard to find gamers depending the time of day (nobody speaks english, only german or french). I mean whats the point in makin a game that only has english only, or aussie only......its not like theres a language barrier and it just divides up the community which is bad.
Not showing the skill level of players in the in-game rooms are terrible....always assume that if your game is not a password entry, one or two newbs will come in the game to mooch wins no matter what the game says. I know some people have ways to deal with this (ex: having a partner to check in room) but the thing is you shouldn't have to deal with it, just show a star rank next to name, its not hard.

@Sgt Tyr
I know your frustration......lately i've been getting the connection failed....and my router is fine plus i always have my firewalls off PLUS i have no Windows service pack 2

Dude get rid of service pack two its evil! I'm no guru at all but the number of strange things that happened after I installed this is unbelievable...got rid of it and now its all fine. That might also be becasue I don't play this game anymore to though :P

Concerning the new patch for DoW, Relic has done this to their fans already. HW2 had only ONE patch and that was it. It still has a few things to fix in HW2 (I kept having the game freeze on me in multiplayer lobby...), so I never really play it anymore. I dearly hope they keep up with their updates as they are very irresponsible for not making one the actually fixes the GAMEPLAY. They are lucky they make only PC games that can directly DL patches and stuff easily to fix up their games, otherwise, these games will die fast and hard. With all these bugs roaming around, it makes you wonder how long it takes to fix a few values and such in the code to get things right. Its already been a month of waiting since release for the kick in the Eldars crotch, but nothing comes... so sad. Also, it really isnt that hard to fix a few things in the code, since I have created my own creations with it which is very simple.
Just my 2 cents...

splugburp, lack of patches is usually the fault of the publisher - in HW2's case, Sierra. They're the ones who give permission and fund work on patches.

Seeing as we're getting a patch one month after release, and HW2 only got one three months after, we're in good shape. Relic wants this to be a good game, and thus far THQ seems far better than Sierra at that.

Also, it really isnt that hard to fix a few things in the code, since I have created my own creations with it which is very simple. I'm curious as to how you got access to Homeworld 2's source code, considering it hasn't ever been released. I'm also curious if you employed a Quality Assurance team to test your changes (for validity, balance, and on multiple computers), like Sierra and THQ do before release.

If you're playing with people you know maybe try a voice/chat program? I use Teamspeak 2 (http://www.goteamspeak.com/news.php) just fine with DoW. With chat in the channel, as well as what was said above, you can always go on a muting rampage ;)

I was about to suggest that. Yes, I know it is only a workaround, but its the best you can currently do. Use a third party program to communicate - there are tons of free programs that enable you to chat with others or talk to them (IM programs like ICQ and MSN, or VoIP programs such as Teamspeak, Ventrilo or Skype).

Actually ceejayoz, I used SpookeyRATs LUA file translator. I dunno, if the LUA files arent code then I was wrong, but it seems to change the way the game works so in my book its code. Also, I changed the files in DoW, not HW2 since I dont really play that game. The extracter can currenly unzip all LUA files that Relic used to make these games: HW, HW2, IC, and DoW. Heh, I made it so you can build termies in the HQ first thing, 5 req. and 5 pow., made the HQ with DS ability, made termies reinforce free instantly, can have up to 20 personel in one squad each being able to have a weapon of your choice, free. I also had them being able to tele port indefinentlly, and anywhere on the map, and instanly with do down time (coolest part), capture lp instanly, and gave them pychic storm ability. The one thing I couldnt get to work was arming them with las cannons. You have to wait for Tech level 3 in order to get it for them and I cant figure out how to let them have it teir 1. Anyways, this is my little program that messed around with. It wasnt that hard, and It worked. Not on multiplayer tho. It was fun too since the AI was smart enough to build them too and tele right into my base. Just goes to show how aware the AI is in this game, not stuck to some build ladder in other RTS's.

LUA is script. Script is a nebulous area between code and data. But, based on what I've seen in the SCAR system so far, it's mostly data, not much code.

It also seems like we can't hang this one on Gamespy. As I understand it, the lobby is all Relic's code.

Relic has stated that Bnet alone has cost an estimated 7 million dollars. Expecting anything close to Bnet from a small company like Relic is unfair.
