please do the poll and kindly state the type of win situations you set for skirmishes.

personally, i just set the win situation to destroy hq, makes the game faster.

insane, annihilate, take and hold, control area

i also like to play FFA most of the time, can be frustrating when the AI gangs up on you, but makes for some frenetic gameplay

Insane control area/take & hold/annihilate

Sometimes Ill player with the Harder AI if I am practicing some new tactic a bit before taking on the insane AI with it

Nice, so many of you playing on hard.
I really get owned by the ai in hard mode. Hard throws tier three units at you impossibly fast and it captures and earns requisition with inhumane effeciency.

maybe i suck.

I've been practicing various builds with the "Harder" AI. Can win nearly 100% of the time now, against any race. "Insane" is about 10%.

For some reason I can take down Eldar fairly often on Insane but Chaos or SM destroys me. Right about the time I've got FC and my first marine crew out of the barracks, they show up with 4 fully reinforced squads of marines AND CL/FC. It's a little overwhelming.

Harder. I try to win by anihilation but if it's not possible I'll go for take & hold.

i didnt even get to build a machine cult before the eldar churn out an avatar on hard difficulty, thankfully the comp doesnt have common sense and trapped its avatar by surrounding it with generators.

Insane, Take and hold, Capture Area, and Annihilate.

I destroy Chaos, Marines and Eldar, but the Orks on Insane are...insane...and give me...difficulties...

For more fun matches I enjoy playing Assassination missions!

Good day.

I get owned by Hard most of the time..especially Orks....standard win conditions, tho assasinate is fun.

Maybe one day I wont suck quite as much.

naah...thats not true...I always will

Harder
Control Area / Take & Hold / Annihilate

Have only played skirmish once recently though and the comp seemed easier then it used to be so maybe I need to up it Insane.

Harder
Take and Hold

If you're not playing take and hold, you're not playing the game. It really isn't nearly as fun without it. In fact, anhhilation only games are probably the most unfortunate part of the DoW community... it's why i play skirmish myself way more than i play online.

anhhilation only = big game hunters.

I can currently beat harder easily on any map. I play insane though and at the maps I know well, I win most times, but almost always lose on the other maps. :) I use the default Automatch conditions, An/TaH/CA.

Is there any kind of point playing skirmishes against AIs using other win conditions than Annihilation? AI doesn't seem to care too much about capturing SPs and he always gets his commander killed by sending him alone against enemy army etc.

So these things make "take and hold" and "eliminate commander" etc. conditions kinda useless...

Easy with normal win settings, as I only play skirmishes to get screenshots... Although if I am actually gonna play a skirmish it would be on harder.

what difficulty level are you playing on? the AI secures and takes back strategic points all the time when i play against it.

oh, and speaking of skirmishes... does anyone really know if your AI teammates pay any attention to your map pings? sometimes i think they do, other times they seem to ignore me.

Hard/Harder but I prefer 2v2/3v3 skirmish games

Annihilation..because..well..I like to blow buildings up .. especially late in game. T&H is fun and all..but that's too competitive for just beating up the comps. comp stomp comp stomp

*cough*standard*cough* :-)
I noticed that they have adjusted difficulty levels in full version, I was doing pretty well against Hard AI in demo but got hammered after I tried the same in full version :o
(not too good player yet I guess)

And what comes to AI capturing SPs, usually they just destroy my LPs and go away, leaving my SP alone :o

I picked Hard, but I seldom win on Hard.

Yet, I seem to do fairly well on Standard. I wish there was a middle-ground between Standard and Hard.

Truly, though, the reason I play Standard is because I like to play a nice, relaxing game. When I play at Hard difficulty one mistake, clicking too slow, not paying attention, just anything but completely focusing on winning, I will lose the game, no question.

I like that on Hard the computer will bring out a more diverse selection of troops and vehicles. On Standard, the computer seems to only produce tier one, maybe tier two (if I'm lucky) enemies. That makes me unhappy, because I want a fun game where I am challenged, but I don't want to have to get clobbered if I am not completely immersed in winning the game and being ultra-aggressive (which seems to be the key to winning on Hard difficulty, meaning that I stop the computer from ever creating the more diverse selection of troops and vehicles that I want to play against.)

Maybe I should slow down the game a bit, but I fear that slowing down the game will cause me to "lose my edge" (such as I have one) when playing against people. I wish there was a difficulty between Standard and Hard where the computer would build more types of units, but not be in my base within a couple of minutes. I just don't play that quickly.

As for win conditions, I play Control Area and Take & Hold, turning off Annihilate because so often I find myself without a base and have (once or twice) been able to pull off one of the other win conditions with whatever troops and vehicles I have left. I don't like losing because the computer seems to decide it wants to Annihilate me.

On Hard, the computer seems to do a good job of Taking and Holding and capturing Control Points and defending them. This I like. Again, though, I seldom get to the point where I have built an equivalent army. It is demoralizing to be still Mobilizing for War when two Dreadnaughts, the Field Commander, the Librarian and a whole mess of troops are tearing my base to shreds.

My one or two wins against the Hard A.I. have been personal accomplishments, but my heart is beating so fast afterwards that I am not sure if this is aerobic exercise or a video game. I suppose in time I will get better and Hard will be no challenge for me (I had the same problem with Standard, but eventually got better) and I will move on to Harder. Hopefully this will take a long time. I can't imagine myself ever besting the computer on insane. (Maybe I should try some Creative Visualization or something.)

I am having fun, though, and that's what counts.

Love,

Hanna

At the moment I'm playing mostly on hard difficulty. The AI tends to give me more problems at the beginning of battles than the middle or end, but I guess that's due to my inexperience (ie. not knowing what is the most important thing to build in certain situations.) I've played 4 games on harder difficulty and won only 1 of them, but I think if I want to get any better I'm going to have to start playing on that difficulty all the time.

Win Condition : Annihilate
Setting: Standard ( unmodded ) - I can't win a game set on Hard or higher, even with
AI allies.
Setting: Insane (modded) - It's a sure win even against 7 opponents - I play it to watch the incredible carnage.

I now will always set it to Hard & use T&H, HQ or a combination of both.

I can win about 30% of the time with all the races except Orcs, which I was truly awful with.
Since the 1.10 Patch however , it seems like if I play as orcs, the AI teams completely ignore my presence until I'm in their face. Any other race (& Orcs pre-patch) & you'll have the Hero & basic squad in your base in minutes carving shit up.
Play as Orcs now & you won't see the enemy until you go knock on his door. I've not lost a skirmish as Orcs since. Very strange!

Anyone else notice this?

My best T&H win was a 1v1. I lost all of my buildings & units except a Raptor squad & held no critical locations. By leaping my raptors all over the place I managed to send the AI into some kind of wierd loop where it just had all of it's units stumbling backwards & forwards continually (like they were all on sentry duty) & captured & held all of the locations. Game over!

Hanna, some people find joy in being challenged. I'm never in a safe time frame on hard and the a.i always has me on my toes. I find it gratifying when i win the a.i on hard too :).

Whats matters the most is that the a.i. doesnt seem to be cheating or ridiculously overpowered on hard that its impossible to defeat, theyre just alot more efficient.

Another game i enjoy being challenged at is Far Cry.

Perhaps I'm being silly but sometimes I would like to play skirmishes without tanks. Some kind of tech-limiter would have been nice...

Standard win conditions.

Harder or Insane depending on whether I want to win (always win on Harder) or continue my quest to beat Insane consistently (winning about a third of the time at the moment).

I'd be especially interested to know which ladder rank each AI difficulty roughly corresponds to, and how the mid-range to top players fare against Insane.

Insane and standard victory conditions.

gls, I routinely beat insane and only run around 0.500 online. It's probably a safe bet that average skill 1v1 is a bit above insane, with the top players being much, much tougher.

I can pull off 100% win against any race in Hard difficulty nowdays, but I haven't played T&H or Control Area much, might have to some day.

Been playing online mostly.

I use Hard as my standard difficulty and I win every time. I managed to beat a harder, but never an insane.

Harder eh....?

harder, annilate only, usually a 4v4 or 3v3

im maybe like a 4/10 games on harder

It seems to me that hard is alot easier now with the 1.10 patch. I also play with the game speed on slow; since I've done that I can think out my next move better and I always win on Hard vs. any race. If I moved that to normal I might have more trouble. I use the standard settings Take and hold, ect., but I used to hate it the computer would take and hold so fast.
I think maybe the slow setting makes it too easy? don't know.

I'm not alone, yippee! :-) I also play skirmishes using "slow" speed setting, because Normal seems just a bit too fast for me (though I'm forced to play with "normal" speed in Campaign). Are people just impatient or what if they rather watch units whizing around like that in "Normal" speed? Eldar units are fast enough already!

I guess "slow" makes playing a bit easier, because you have a little more time to react and think your moves.

So far mostly hard (or above) with Annihilate and T&H as conditions. Dont play it very often since I prefer MP games.

I put insane, but the truth is, I am constantly pausing the game and looking around, issueing orders and then letting it continue... and it still generally beats me... and games can take forever....

Wasn't there a similar post some time ago?
Anyway, I like insane too, but I turn off annihilation. I only use control area and take and hold.
I also like to use slower speed than normal. It's a freakin click-fest not strategy.
Thankfully I've found people that I agree to play with.

Harder, with standard automatch conditions.

For some bizarre reason I find Harder easier than Hard. Guess it must just be too dumb for me to comprehend. :D
