Installing mods without busting the game

I have recently downloaded several mods for DOW. These include Vindicare assassin and a map. But everytime I install the mod/map the game either (vidicare) doesn't go past the loading screen after the intro and the map causes every skirmish game/campaign to stop working completely. How do i install mods without causing the problems?
