View Full Version : LAN Connection Issues

I am currently having some problems running network games of Dawn of War.

I run an internet cafe and regularly have a large number of people wanting to play Dawn of War on LAN. This has never, ever been a problem untill the new patch was released; what is happening is extremely odd;

Someone sets up a server, then each client attempts to connect, and every time one of those clients will not be able to connect, and the person affected is seemingly random. It also seems that if you connect in a certain order, then it'll work, but I have not yet determined what that order is (I have tried doing it in order of IP address). This issue does not seem to occur over the Internet and is only a LAN issue as far as I can tell. All the machines being used have seperate CD keys. All the machines use identical hardware and are not connecting to each other through any form of NAT or Firewall hardware.

This problem has only arisen since the release of the new patch, and because of this I am looking at rolling back to the previous patch, however I would rather keep my machines up to date to allow Internet play if neccesary.

Any help on this matter would be very much appreciated.

I have the same issues. It sucks that a game this good has such horrible net code. You would think network lag over a 100mbit full duplex network with top of the line computers wouldn't be an issue :-\ the only real way we've gotten around it is to use a single switch instead of multiple switches. The problem didnt arise after the latest patch either, its been around since the original release.

Could you post a warnings.log from a client and a server after a failed connection attempt please?

Will post as soon as I get into work tomorrow.

We only started getting this error after the new patch...odd.

We use multiple switches as well, however I have tried running all the machines through the same switch and isolating that switch from the rest of the network, but still the same problem.

I will probably try and do some more troubleshooting tomorrow. This is up there with Steam in my list of things to get sorted out (..don't even get me started on Steam) a.s.a.p.

Can I get some help here? The manual is basically unhelpful on this? I have 1.20 and I have a LAN setup in home on two computers using a hub to connect to our ISP. I have been able to transfer files across the computers and use printers. But when we try to set up a DoW game with either computer as a host, there is no game for the other computer to join? What am I doing wrong here?
