1) I have played AoE - The Age of Kings ever since release, there after a game, some would often dispence advice, a few jokes then went each his way never to meet again.
2) Why can't we have 'spectators' just sitting watching in silence to the matches?
Even Ensemble Studio had to give in to the demands of the fans, to release the expantion with 'spectator' featuer, it greatly contribute to the community by allowing people to talk with eachother just after a match, it is boring not to have any to talk to, after watching a replay.
It's like the reason why fans gladly pay a obscene amount of money, just to go to a rock consert to hear bad quality music versus a high quality CD, because they want the 'good feeling' there.
So I ask u people, do you often have a 'after skiing' with a few jokes, hint and advice, or do u just leave for the next game?

I would like to talk with some people after playing games, but most of them just leave immediatly after the game ends. Another thing that prevents this is that you can't chat if you are defeated by annihilation. Although you can if you get defeated by Take and Hold for some reason.

It would be good to have an AAR (After Action Report) where you could just be after the game to talk about it, share jokes, and also have a replay screen so players could show each other the best bits, tactics etc

it makes no sense that you cannot talk after a match has ended. I can understand not talking after you die because it might be a 2 v 2 and you could give the other player unfair intel. But once the game has ended its just not fun. Mabey not a spectator mode...but the above should be fixed i think.

If they made it so you could only talk to everyone once you died, disabled the team chat, then cheating wouldn't be such a problem. Or at least the other person would know about it.
Knowing about someone giving out unwanted Intel about your current strategic position does not alleviate the problem. If anything, most would surely be pissed to have to watch text about such matters come up on the screen, especially coming from an already DEAD player.
AAR would be a welcome addition as talking afterwards would be a good thing. Makes making friends easier.

Or how about when you die you cannot see the whole map, only what your ally can see and you can talk to him/her. That would make the cheating impossible

There would still be some unfair advantage in having allys view when quitted, you can scout u'r ally to find things that needs attention, ie a LP that needs 1st upgrade etc.

You know there's a feature in Warcraft 3 I think that allows you to even control your ally's units. I think this sort of stuff encourages staying on in a game and helping your allies. So I think that telling your ally what needs his attentions isn't such a big deal.
Seeing all the map and cheating is a big deal. I think limiting to allied view sounds fine. Hell even being able to help after you die would be cool.

If nothing else, allowing dead allies to remain as observers might help them not die so quickly next time, making them a better teammate. From what I can tell, they don't even have the ability to save a replay of the game to learn what they may have done wrong...

Sorry, but I think it's a bit OT, it isn't when a team mate quit, but at the very end. I have 1:50 times talked to an ally after a game, that be only if we had some talks in game already, and continued afterwards. Never talked to the enemies as I used to in AoK :weep:
..it's such a lonely walk at times......:lonely:

You mean like handing control of your units to another player?
I believe GC2 had that, but that feature was open to abuse.

humm, I really like this idea 'spectator'
actually, people will get tired when sometimes just finish a match, to watch other guys playing would be a nice choice, and a brief argument in the chatting might bring a few new ideas between times.
good hint!

War3 spectator mode was fun. It was sort of like a bunch of people sitting around a TV in the living room watching a movie. The spectators could only talk with one another, and the players could not read what the spectators were saying, so cheating wasn't an issue. Plus it had the benefit of allowing spectators to mercilessly mock dumb moves behind the players' backs :) I think this is why most players chose not to allow spectators, but when there were good, confident players playing, it was good all around. Educational, not much legitimate mockery, and the leet players got to show off.
Something like that in DoW would be cool. Also being able to stick around and talk after a match would be cool too. But I don't think allowing defeated players to talk with the other players still playing could ever work. Just too open to abuse.
