Hi, Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, I couldn't see it. Anyway - I've just bought a GeForce 6600 GT card and all seems well except that I have been told that I should check whether I need to update the drivers for it. Am I right in thinking that I go to NVidia's site and simply download the main driver download? Is there anything I need to do with the file after that? I have a disc with the cards drivers on it but do they go out of date quickly?

Cheers for any help.

Download the drivers from nvidia's site. Then double-click on them after downloading them, and follow the instructions of the installation wizard.

Hello brother.Well, simply go to nvidia's site and to the download section and download the latest drivers for your geforce card. When the download is complete you must uninstall your old drivers and then you will prompted for a restart.Do it and when your pc boots again, windows will find your card and ask you if you want to install the drivers for it.Press cancel and ignore the message that will appear in the down right corner of your screen telling you that your hardware might not work correctly.

Next, open the file with the driver you just downloaded and double click the setup file. The driver will be installed and after a final reboot you can use your geforce.Remember to disable any antivirus software before clicking on the setup file because there have been reports of conflicts if antivirus is running during the installation of nvidia's drivers.Good luck and enjoy your new card.

Thanks for the help. So I should download the drivers even if the card appears to be working ok? I bought the card a few days ago and installed the drivers off of the disc that came with it. It seems fine but I see from various posts that I should check if I have the latest ones. I did a check of my system and it says that my GeForce 6600 driver is nv4_mini.sys Oct 2003.

If I need to uninstall the old drivers first, do I do that through Add/Remove Programmes?

Thanks

DoW and other games may require the latest graphics drivers, there also is a small performance boost in some driver increments - updating them is a good idea.

There are 4 ways to uninstall your old drivers but the most common is yes, through the Add-Remove Programs.
