View Full Version : 1.1 Corrupted patch will actually PAY $$ for assistance

czechmate1974

That is correct: will pay $$ or provide free computer games to those who can assist me in setting this game up.

Uberjumper: you've helped me b4, sure could use it now, also Moe, sorry for posting, but I have read the forums so many times, and below you will see that I attempted to do ALL of what was posted.

My issues is as follows--just like a lot of others, I cannot install 1.1patch without the corruption error. I have a working patch, courtesy of the 'mp5sums' threads, which I verified, so that is the first step to success.

I have reinstalled windows operating system. Initially I have installed service pack 2, and attempted to do the following:

1. move the temp files
2. clean out the temp files
3. defrag hard drive(s) I have 2 of em
4. tried to patch the game on either hard drive
5. tried to patch in safe mode
6. tried to patch while closing out all background applications
7 reinstalled windows, tried to patch before the sp 2 updates

At this point, I'm willing to fork over the dough, or provide anyone with my Warcraft III game, I'll even send it over, just if I could get some assistance with this.

My msn: martinmarek@hotmail.com

anyone that can help, please let me know, I'll be looking for you. I guess, it would be good if I got some STEP FOR STEP instructions...like get sp 2, then install fresh game, patch 1.01, defrag, etc......step for step so i don't miss anything.

Thanks DOW community for trying to help in advance.

illegal, possible hazard of losing a friend
locate a friend with a working dow 1.01
locate his pc, be sure it works, if you have the guts skip next step
locate his pet (if not anything has more sentimental value then in terms of money)
kidnap it (kidnapped pc skip next step)
trade it for his pc

well joke aside, Format your harddisk before installing windows again and remind that in safe mode you can't install anything properly but certain drivers.

KON Air's suggestion may have some merit. If you have the game installed and patched on a different machine then you could burn the entire install directory onto a DVD (its ~2.5 Gb so a CD would be too small) and then copy it onto your harddrive then so long as the CD key entry in your registry is the CD key that came with the copy of the game that you purchased and you change the DawnOdWar_ver entry to "1.20" then it should work fine. Do this after installing the game on your computer (click "yes to all" when it comes to copying the files over and it asks you if you want to overwrite) so that the correct registry values will already exist.

If you dont have a friend with a DVD burner then you could spread it accross multiple CDs or link the computers together to make the transfer. I wouldnt recommend transferring 2.5Gb across an internet connection.

Failing that all you can do is try the various solutions detailed in the threads in the MTL.

thx both for your suggestions. i dont have a dvd burner yet, hopfully in 1 month or so, but i will try to look for more things to try out. I was thinking, could it be possible that it is an issue with sp2? i wonder what % of people on the forum who have not resolved this problem have sp2. who knows. I will work on this till my fingers turn raw, the game is sooo good. too bad can't play, if anyone thinks of anything else, please let me know, or talk to me on msn: martinmarek@hotmail.com I'll compensate in some way, no worries

What exactly is the problem you're having.

Uber: my dear friend: I am having the same problem that many are having: cannot install patch 1.1 because it is 'corrupt'

I came home today, thinking that man, i got it figured out, change my allocated temp file from a large number to a small number and then the files wont become corrupt, but unfortunately that did not work.

Just fyi, I've tried everything in the lobby. I'll pay you well if you help me fix this problem. Just cannot patch 1.1, got 1.01
works like a dream every time, but 1.1 doesn't. I got it from numerous sources, including gamespy, of course. I have tried all the things above. Name your price, if you help me, you get hooked up. Need a wife? guess what>> I know plenty, i'll hook u up, just help me out in exchange, what u say

so I'm just trying to play online again. Whatever u need, i'll give u, cool, let me know

I dont think SP2 is to blame...most people seem to have SP2 and the patch with no problems.

I will post my info, dear friends in a sec, first more info:

1. went to work, installed cd with 3 patches i have, 1.01, 1.10, 1.20, without doing anything else, not even entering the game, worked FLAWLESSLY, no defrag, no nothing, therefore i have the right patches, patches are not the issue, ie something else.

2. came home, did the same thing, corrupt patch 1.1 error again.

3. When i defrag, which is all the darn time, i notice the files that it is moving, are usually the ones that I have an error with, ie patch.err. They are always one of 2 errors:

a. w40kdata-sharedtextures-full.sga
b. w40kdata-sound-full.sga
c. ENTRY: W40k\Locale\English\W40kData-Sound-Speech.sga

interesting huh? Are these files always fragmented? Maybe something else going on. Fyi, the current patch.err file is file c, the data sound speech sga one. Just fyi, maybe it will help. Who knows.

4. more info about my pc: 2 hard drives both large 70 and 120 gig, i reinstalled windows xp few times, got home edition, graphic card is ati 9600xt, have the latest 5.3 catalyst drivers, motherboard asus p4p800, have direct x 9.0 c installed, sound drivers are integrated, sound max, on motherboard, and have pretty much nothing else installed on first drive. the second drive has a bunch of my pictures and a few files, including some drivers etc. Maybe this will help. NOw the info u asked for.

K, first thing I want to do is this.

Uninstall Dawn of War.
Delete the Install directory (you can keep your profiles if you like before deleting it).
Re-install Dawn of War.
Once it's re-installed, COPY the install directory so that if we need to, instead of re-installing you can just delete the install folder, and copy the copy back in place. Will probably save time with uninstalling and re-installing.
Prior to patching, go and delete the contents of all the TEMP directories on your system (C:\temp, c:\windows\temp, c:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\temp).

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and do a virus scan.

After doing that, go to Start>Run, type MSCONFIG and hit enter. In MSCONFIG do a diagnostic startup, reboot.

Then, try to patch to 1.01.

1.01 works right? You can play single player and skirmish with it?

Once 1.01's installed. Ensure you've rebooted after that (again, with a diagnostic startup). Double check that the temp directories are again empty, then run the 1.10 patch.

Let me know how that goes.

uber, thanks for fast response, really appreciate it, i just took a nap, and get this, when i restarted my pc, i cannot add remove my game, it seems not to be there, what is going on? It is not in the all programs or in add remove. Just strange. All the files are there though, in root install folder, weird. I'm going to do what you say now, once i figure out how to uninstall the damn thing. I've never seen it do THIS.

strangeness.

What happens if you try to reinstall without uninstalling? Does it say you can't?

kk, everything is a go so far, about to try the 1.10 patch.

no virus, all checked out fine, i even played vs pc for 1 min, just to verify that it works, goig to go to diagnostic reboot, then i'll try the 1.10

btw, my temp int folder has 3000 mb amt. of diskspace to use, is that fine? let me know. if you help me fix this, i will give the highest possible recommendation for whomever you work for, mark my words,

Uber: here we go: did everything...everything checked out fine, except one thing, yes, the patch was corrupted again, even in the diagnostic setup.

this time, when i went into my install folder the patch.err file shows:

ENTRY: W40k\W40kData-SharedTextures-Full.sga

happy to try anything, i dont care what it takes, we are close to the answer i know it.

i have no virus, have correct working patches (per earlier email, verified at work), and everything else checks out. I even defragged right before.

Thanks buddy, i'm on msn: martinmarek@hotmail.com

hmmm k, replace the install directory, and patch to 1.01 again.

Once it's patched to 1.01, replace your copy of the initial install with the 1.01 patched version, then try to patch again to 1.10. If it errors again, confirm it's the same file giving the error.

Do you have another computer, even one below min spec that you can install and patch on on your network? Might be simpler to install and patch on a machine that works, then copy the patched version over the network.

i have 3 pc's at home ... i had the same error message when i was useing a no cd crack... but im guessing ur not doing that....

anyway long story short you could take your home pc to work .. network them together... install dow on your home pc with no patches (this gets the registry information in) install dow on work pc with all patches (sounds like you did this alredy) copy the game folder from your work pc to your home pc ... bam instant patched game .. only problem with this is if they patch the game u might have to take it to work to copy the game over ... (lucky they dont seem to patch to often)

cheers

System properties -> advanced tab

Environmental variables tab

Change user variables TEMP and TMP to point to a temporary directory you created on your secondary harddrive and try patching again

It worked, finally got 1.1 corrupt patch to work. For anyone who has this damn problem, do this:

1. i reinstalled windows
2. #1 may not be necessary. make sure u have no viruses... http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ do a scan there!!!
3. update everything u can, graphic card, motherboard, sound drivers, etc. u need to have latest drivers, so nothing will be in conflict. Make sure you have service pack 2 from microsoft
4. uninstall dow clean out and delete entire dow folder, by deleting it. reinstall
5. download 1.01 and 1.10 from the default site by going to multiplayer. I do it thru the web, then i place both files in the patch folder of dow.
6. do not update yet.
7. http://ccleaner.com/ go there and get cleaner
8. copy entire dow directory and place somewhere else, like on another drive if you have it, if not, just place the thq folder on desktop. You will use this to 'paste over' the old folder if your attempts to fix the corruption error dont work.
9. move your temp folder by :System properties -> advanced tab..Environmental variables tab. I move it to c:tempoary internet files...i move therego to patch folder, run 1.01
10. open up ccleaner, dont run it yet
11. open up dow folder, patches, then start the 1.10
12. immediately go to your ccleaner, and run it @ same time u running patch. i
13. It didn't work for me first time and it did 2nd time...here's maybe why.

I got the corruption error, then I 'm like screw it, delted the entire install directory, (saved the 2 patches), pasted over the directory with new folder that I saved on the desktop or other drive, put the 2 patches in, ran the first, and repeated same steps with 2nd...as soon as i started 1.10, i ran the ccleaner. and this time, it had a lot more to clean out, and get this, it worked. weird, i know. I hope this helps sommeone out there, b/c it is NOT fun going over and over the same bs. :werd:
