when trying to run the game i get an error saying i need at least 256mb of RAM to run the game and won't let me play even though i have 1024mb. does anybody know why this could be happening or anyway of getting around it please? really gutted that i still cant play DoW! :(

I've never seen DirectX not properly detect the system memory before... this is quite strange.

Go into windows explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options. Go to the View tab. Uncheck "Hide File extensions for known file types" and change the Radio button above it to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" You may also need to uncheck the "Hide Protected Operating System Files button.

Looks like it *might* be a problem with the Memory not being read properly by the system. Your Bios thinks that it's only got 256MB of memory, while the memory modules, when asked by System Information, reply back that they are all 256MB modules.

hmm damn computer.. needs a swift kick. anything i can do to make it realise the memory is there? by the way.. when i use RAM cleaners it will only clean 224mb

Yeah, the ram cleaners are probably seeing the same thing.

You might try removing the original stick of memory, and putting the last two sticks you bought into the first two slots on the motherboard, see if it picks up the 512. The system may be looking at the SPD on the first stick, seeing that it's different than the other sticks, and only using the first stick.

You'll also need to confirm what motherboard you have, and make sure you have the latest bios update.

Well, you just need to figure out why it's not detecting the memory. If you can find out exactly what motherboard you have using Everest Home Edition, then you can look to see if there's a bios update for it.
